So, if they can make an Ornithopter fly in the sim we should be seeing them in the real life skies soon. And here I thought the Harkonnens were winning!
Will the Dune Ornithopter be compatible with MSFS 2024?
(blink twice if you can’t say)
So now with this expansion we will have the planet Arrakis too, besides the Earth?
Indeed… There are also flying christmas trees and lego planes in to download and that’s ok for those who like it but for me personally? nope…
Free expansion, sounds good to me! Wonder how they’re going to do the desert planet though.
That raises some interesting future possibilities if they’re able to swap in a custom planet with custom biomes instead of earth for an expansion in MSFS. MSFS 2024+ could be even more interesting.
Starfield’s looking good, a nice blend of the best of ideas in ED/NMS/SC and hopefully without their many issues/bugs.
I like their sneaky sense of humour as well, & looks like their attention to detail is solid.
100 planets I’m guessing maybe 100 to 150 star systems (the 400 billion dead ones in ED is pointless, as are the gazillion procedural patterns in NMS), which is plenty if their procedural engine is flexible enough to provide unique generative on the fly design mixed with hand crafted content.
Oh that looks cute. Like the Halo Pelican I’ll probably take it out a few times for screenshots then put it away, but I think there’s a place for fun stuff like this.
You describe yourself as not a serious simmer.
I am quite a serious simmer so ne’er the twain doth meet innit.
My opinion has as much weight as your’n. I don’t want fun, I want valid functioning systems so far as is possible. And yes, I enjoy circuits around my local airfield (LBA), as it happens.
However I’d rather good coin is spent on authentic aircraft.
Talking of coin, that’s my tuppen’orth right there.
Dev management:
Live weather issues - fixed.
ATC issues - fixed.
AI issues - fixed.
Performance & stability issues (in both PC and Xbox alike) - fixed.
API issues (e.g. exposing B events) - fixed.
All fixed. Now we can proceed with developing arcade features for our flight simulator.
ps: don’t get me wrong, I’m a decades-old Dune hardcore fan. I’m just not convinced my favorite sci-fi series has got anything to do with a flight sim that’s supposed to be also hardcore. I just hope they have infinite dev resources to develop both Dune pack and MSFS2024, on top of releasing much needed and sought improvements for MSFS2020.
You do want fun it’s just that different things provide you with fun compared to some other people.
Yup ok, I’ll go with that!
Yawn. Dear me, lighten up. Variety appeals to many, it may bring more people in that then try the rest. The more people the more continued support and life a product gets.
I’m a serious simmer that uses navigraph, practices circuits, and even plots VFR flight plans by hand from time to time. This looks great. I’m a huge Dune fan and I’ll be flying the hell out of this.
Will Arrakis have photogrametry? Can we use volocopters there? Can Ornithopters be started by means of telekinesis or do we still need to go through a study level checklist? We need more details about this new Woodstock experience.
Cheers
So that’s what they’ve been busy with…
so it would seem
The Dune content can be handled exactly like the Halo content for people that don’t want it - go to the Content Manager, and uninstall. Not sure why people are getting bent out of shape over this. You’re under no obligation to play it.
Once 2024 launches, 2020 will be put into “maintenance mode” where it will get no further development, just maintenance updates, bug fixes, etc. I can’t see them developing 2 (4 if you see Xbox and PC as different versions) beyond the launch of the new title.
I’m guessing the fixing of all the old 2020 issues, adding missing basic functionality, new ATC, etc was such a huge undertaking that they decided to monetize this with a new version number.
Perhaps, because these spin-offs consume resources that many of us wish be spent on something more… palatable.
So much for the promises of a 10-year long lifespan…
These add-ons aren’t made by Asobo. They’re contracted out to 3rd parties, just like World Updates. There’s very little in terms of internal resources being used for this.
They rolled back that 10-year statement over a year ago, but “updated” it saying Microsoft now had a long term commitment to the franchise and they had long-term plans. They didn’t explicitly say it would be a new version, but Jörg’s wording certainly left it open to that possibility. And that’s what we’re seeing now. MSFS isn’t going to have the same thing happen that FSX did and be abandoned. I expect we’ll see a new version of it every 4-5 years probably over the next couple of decades.
The FAQ says they’ll continue to roll out the updates that are in the pipe for 2020. Once 2024 goes live, 2020 will continue working just fine for those that wish to continue using it, and likely will do so for many years. Just don’t expect new features to be added beyond the updates currently slated for 2020. Active development will be redirected to the new version.
They are not writing a new sim, just adding new content to MSFS2020 and selling it as a new title. EA have been doing this for decades. Your addons will work just fine, don’t worry.
