Dune Expansion Pack Announcement

If this is the case, then oh heck yeah… Give it to us!!!

I have fun with every time I use it. It may not be some people’s intent, but I have found using any simulator a rewarding experience, be it a flight sim, or a truck sim.

I see the Dune pack as being an optional extra you can ignore, like the Halo Pelican.

Content manager works great, these expansions never interfere with what I want to do in MSFS.
I’m completely unbothered by the Top Gun and Halo expansions, it will be the same with the Dune expansion. Out of sight out of mind!
Thanks content manager functionality.

A Human User

Looks nice. I for one would be happy to try it out…if it’s free.

One shouldn’t conflate being a non-serious simmer with knowing nothing about aviation, flight dynamics and systems. There are real-world pilots here who aren’t too serious.

Yes, your opinion has as much validity as mine, but the purist attitude of never allowing anyone less serious than yourselves to be accommodated actually does the sim more harm than good. I want this product to last two decades, but it certainly won’t unless MS and Asobo continue to appeal to a more diverse audience.

and… a lot of simmers are not seeing the long list of fixes from the current beta testing.
Of course, my missing bridges, missing bridge spans, cars driving under the bridges and on the water are not in the “fixed” list. Much Expected…smile

What next? Mortal Combat Expansion Pack?

This is definitely something I will be passing on. I don’t have the Halo thing either. Zero interest.

I’m questioning some of their development choices. Stuff no one asked for:

  1. Reno Races
  2. Halo thing
  3. Dune thing

They ought not waste time on these things. Maybe they should get, say, 100 or so volunteers as a focus group, almost in the same way as the closed betas were. Then they can send them surveys to gauge interest before spending time on stuff like this.

And yes, yes, ‘development teams’, etc. But for both this and the Reno races, I’m sure at least a few people on the core sim would have to have been involved.

I’ll try it once or twice like I tried the Halo Pelican. This looks a little more fun potentially, but probably not something I’ll fly more than a couple times with so many great, real aircraft I already own. It’s all a promotional deal, so I can’t blame them for adding it, though I’d definitely like some more aviation movies to come out so we can get some real aircraft out of the deal

When you look at the long list of bugs (many there since launch and even before in the beta and alpha), the long wishlist, etc, I think we’re going to see most of those things being fixed in 2024 and not in the current version. At least that’s the gut feel I have about it.

The fact they’re working on the next version actually explains the glacial pace of any significant fixes in the current version. Resources are being poured into this while they finish off the work in the queue for the old version.

Although while I look forward to 2024, after seeing the trailer, I’ve got this nagging feeling of potential “gameification” of the sim to have more of a mass-market appeal for console at the expense of the more hardcore simulation aspects.

My guess is that this new sim will just be the current sim updated and repackaged as MSFS 2024, much like what they did for the 40th Anniversary Edition. So basically it will be the good ole’ sim as we currently know it with additional new features that we will have to pay for either through monthly Game Pass charges or an upgrade charge for non-Game Pass users.

For those that don’t want to upgrade will probably not be a problem and they will still get the updates/bug fixes as before. Think MSFS 2020 std edition users today that never paid for the premium deluxe content but still get all the regular updates except for the premium deluxe content.

I just can’t imagine MS has developed a new sim and they will stop the presses with the current sim.

Couldn’t be less interested in this.

Yep, same feeling here… “Gameification” and “Revenue Stream” … O well…
We still love the sim.

Depends on how many of these ancient, unaddressed bugs on the current feedback snapshot are still in the new sim once it launches.

For those old enough to remember —

Maybe after Dune, we can have Supercar

Then, Thunderbirds (are Go)

For me, it’s Thunderbird 2 or bust.

P…P…P…P…Penelope’s pink rolls for me!

Only if the yellow 4 can drop out of it.

Besides, can’t do a Thunderbirds expansion pack - people would complain about the animation being on strings etc.

All the above assumes that MSFS 2024 with have below water profiles and realistic ocean & river depths, and correctly modeled water currents ( Like P3D ), as all these vehicle are both “in air” & “under water” capable.

Maybe by MSFS 2028
