Dx11 or dx12?

@GhostlyFrend the search list will give you a million links.. have a look at below one, it is (far) before the current “DX12” but this topic is where the 1152 votes were put for DX12 !

I know of course how to search . What i meant was a thread to give feedback on the beta implementation of dx12, not a general wishlist or how to.

I wouldn’t know.. It is all kind of fragmented, since they released the option in November last year.

In fact I think they run DX-11 under (in) DX-12 now, Jorg said they only test the “DX-12 base” with this release, there are no changes in the graphics. I will be the first to get issues.. I run low-end graphics on my laptop (MX-330), every time I start MSFS i get a little box telling me it won’t work with DX-12.

This is the other big topic, Update: DX12 coming to PC soon --> (Old post: DX12 is NOT coming to PC on July 27. Xbox Will Get DX12 First, Then PC Later) - #335 by daern1

I assume that each upcoming Flighting/Beta test will have it’s own forum section, with its own sub-forums for topics such as “DX12 improvement feedback” and the like.

I’m hoping that we see the Flighting go live this coming week :3

Last time I was flying, 2 days ago, I decided to switch from DX11 to 12. IT was late and my last flight of the night, and generated a message stating that the effects would not take place until I rebooted. I closed the program and called it a night.
Next day I tried to launch MSFS 2020, it starts to load up the very 1st screen then dies and reverts back to a green PLAY button and that is where I have been stuck now for 2 days and unable to fly. I’ve scoured the internet looking for a way to fix. I have used system restore on multiple restore points that were recently made before I made the change, but that has not mattered. I’ve booted into safe mode and reinstalled my video card drivers ( EVGA Nvidia 3080) to no avail. Short of uninstalling MSFS I am at a loss of what to do. I sent in an official support request. Backed up my input folder and saved my community folder contents to another drive in case I have to reinstall. Not looking forward to doing that. if anyone has any ideas I’d sure love to hear them!

You have tried everything I can think of.

On the plus side? A clean install will fix it.

Have you tried switching the PreferD3D12 flag in User.cfg from 1 to 0 before rebooting? Just a thought.

For me, the fps drop and it is not possible to use vertical synchronization in dx 12, therefore I use dx 11

Does anyone know why MSFS uses what it calls DX12 beta When Windows 11 uses DX12. No mention of Beta

It’s because DX12 is a feature in “beta” they implemented to MSFS, but may or may not work correctly for everyone. It’s not really DX12 which is in beta but the implementation in the sim.

Understood Thanks.

Makes sure to post resolution when giving performance numbers

DX12 might consume more performance rather then improve for now.

I doubt it’s high on the list. but it would be good to be using 12. Ive tried it after the update but it’s still pretty buggy. It stutters which is super anoying and my GPU is a 3080TI. No such issues with the older version so I’m sticking for now. Also noticed that the color is off too, not something I can put my finger on, but I noticed it right away and it’s still the same. Its like they dropped a black and white mesh over the top. Not great as I was hoping it’d be fixed this time. We live in hope. lol

DX11 49 FPS
DX12 51 FPS

No other noticeable differences.

You seem to be a lone soldier on this one.. Good to see its working for you.

I s’pose it’s because I run a minimal setup. Small props, not much in terms of add-ons, a lean machine etc.

Never touch airliners or other jets, just not my thing.

Yeah jetliners are a massive performance killer. Hopefully DX12 improves further overtime.

Those FPS number are meaningless to me sorry. What really matters is smoothness and stability, and I’m willing to bet that nobody who has enough basic skill to provide a simple CapFrameX comparison will be able to prove that DX12 is any better in the area of smoothness.

They’re totally meaningless to me too. I used them only as an illustration that there was no measurable difference using the Dev mode built in counter.

To my eye anyway, it’s smooth and that’s all I’m interested in.
