Dx11 or dx12?

Can’t even test dx12 in vr, tried 8 times 100% CTD as soon as I try to initialise VR. Just swapped back to dx11 with no other changes and it’s working.

Is there a list somewhere of which aircraft are compatible? Google yields nada

Maybe you should first try in ‘safe mode’ or empty Community Folder’. DX12 doesn’t like some mods.

It’s the Nvidia Image scaler that’s the issue. I forgot it was a known issue that it doesn’t work with dx12.

Would someone please help with info about Win11/DX12? I have done some research but I am looking for some real world feedback.

I am currently very pleased with the overall experience provided by the sim. I have medium CPU power, I9 and 2080, Win10/DX11. I don’t do VR. The Dec 1st NVIDIA update deteriorated performance so I reverted. My research found that in order to run Win11/DX12 I need to go into my bios and turn on the security HW.

So I am humbly asking, is it worth it to move to Win11/DX12? I appreciate any help here, URLs or experience.

Thanks so much!

Have a good day!

Probably not. Windows 10 will be supported until 2025 and DX12 (12.1) runs perfectly well wth Windows 10, DX12 games and MSFS (at least on my Win 10 machine).

Thanks!

I’ve read here that DX12 does slightly worse than DX11 on Win10. Do you not see this in your experience? I saw a frame rate drop when I switched to DX12 inside MSFS options. The reason I ask is because the recent NVidia drivers were the first ones I needed to revert from and this led to checking performance and versions of drivers, OS/GFX.

A few frames - as long as it’s above 30, it’s good enough for sightseeing. However, I am not sure there are any added features in DX12. DX versions usually simply add to or refine existing HW algorithms, interface better, and/or exploit a new standard feature of the latest chipsets. There was a fairly major update with DX10 (I think it was 10).

Thanks again!

The beta sim update has shown a substantial improvement with DX 12, which points to the fact that the developers are making progress.

In fact, the forum was swamped with complaints when the latest nvidia drivers caused problems. Lo and behold, switching into DX 12 solved the anomalies the latest nvidia drivers had caused. For me (my system) MSFS is performing leaps and bounds better than when I began running the sim at the beginning of this year. But, I have switched to all updates— Windows 11 pre-release, MSFS current beta, latest nvidia driver, and DX 12. Averaging around 50-60 frames per second, while dropping to mid-thirties at airports like San Francisco but quickly bouncing back once in the air. Even maintaining these frame rates while flying low in city scapes like Chicago, New York, San Francisco.

Not that I know of… Only what has been posted here.

how is now DX12 with new 497.29 Driver?

Going to do a test real quick but doubt there will be any changes. That will be on AS end to improve it.

With DX11 the usage percentage is reduced to 70 to 97%. Before I had constantly 99% usage. So I think they really did something for the MSFS!

If you like CTDs, dx12 is way better.

I have recently changed to DX12 and find it just the same as DX11 except that when I start the game, it sets, by default everything to ULTRA, before it was just HIGH. I have no problems with it at all.

Hopefully in time DX12 will bring performance gains. do we know much about the dev roadmap for DX12?

Did you get this resolved ? I’m having the same issue.

They are working on it My guess will be summer time until we start seeing preformance gains

12 is in beta atm, and it shows. Colors are washed out and my 3080ti even gives the odd stutter so i’d stick to 11 for now.

the rumour is that the upcoming world update will see 12 being out of beta, so for now I’m sticking with 11 which is fast and stable.

I tried DX12 briefly when it first came out, but for VR, performance was worse and I had multiple CTDs. I haven’t tried it since the hotfix came out or I updated to the 511.23 drivers though.

I’ll probably just stick with DX11 until 12 is out of beta, and certainly when it has DLSS support in SU10 or 11 (if that includes VR support anyway)

They said on the Q&A that a big DX12 update will come probably (can be late) with SU10
