It’s getting worse. It started out with just a few spots, but I am seeing more and more of them over time.

Hi there @Dutch1957, are the issues you’re having the same as this bug report?

Only the water (lakes) on plateaux is the same. But I do not have any issues around Vancouver City! The only thing I later noticed are terrain Spikes at Harbour Airport, who disappear when you get closer.
As mentioned, I do not have the Canada update installed. So, my bug report is not entirely the same because of that.

Can’t say for certain WU13 was the cause, but I do not remember seeing this previously.
ALL WU installed.

Spikey/melted Victoria Harbour is not new & not caused by WU13. It was there previously and is similar to the Vancouver area. Canada WU was not one of the better WU’s unfortunately.

It’s similar Speed, but is a different area. Also, It could be new, as I fly that area quite a bit and fairly sure I would have noticed these. Does seem odd a different area WU would affect this area however

Could be wrong though
wife is sure I never am correct

Recently, I upgraded from Win 10 to Win 11. Today, I flew again from Victory Intnl. Airport the same route. Nothing changed, still those silly terrain issues.

I have noticed a similar bug in Sweden. This is close to Norrköping. A stream of water is flowing up over a hill that does not exist in reality. I can not remember the hill was there before last world update.

Victoria area still looks ridiculous with the elevated ponds and lakes. And I do have Romans Victoria airport.

This is caused by DEM (digital elevation model) data errors, if you want better DEM for Vancouver Island (because you absolutely do) PlaneGuy04 on flightsim-to has a set of downloads that add 15M resolution DEM for both Vancouver Island and “the rest of BC”.

Other folks have made DEM addons for other parts of the world, so if you fly in regions where things look the same kind of weird, have a look to see if someone made a DEM add-on for where you like to fly.

Just did a flight in Victoria out of CYYJ after the WU11 release and the terrain spikes are noticeable in the area going all the way down to the city. Looks like a patch is needed.

Agree, and reported to Zendesk as a bug with screenshots.

Quite bad in a number of places all along the Saanich penninsula and through the city. In many places it appears to be where there are small bodies of water (lakes, marshes) sitting well above the hard surfaces. Perhaps a mismatch in water table data vs land table data (if they’re separate)?

I’ve sent in a ticket to Zendesk on this as well. My local area so was very disappointed with this.

Anyone have any of the freeware British Columbia terrain/city mods also installed? If so, you need to remove them for proper WU11 compatibility. They are incompatible, irrespective of what the dev says on FSTO. In fact they’ve been terrible for at least six months.

Cheers

I have the payware CYVR but otherwise no. I usually fly from CYYJ so you’d think the Saanich peninsula shouldn’t be affected by the CYVR airport add-on. These problems did not exist prior to WU11.

These terrain spikes on the Sannich peninsula have nothing to do with addons. I have no addons, but I do have the spikes
well actually I don’t have the spikes now because I gave up on WU11 and off-loaded it. The benefits weren’t worth the regression in the quality of the cities etc.

Understood I was just double checking. I’ve done an Island tour since the update and didn’t notice anything specifically but I will check out Saanich as well and see if I have it also. Sounds like it. Have relatives in North Saanich so maybe I’ll do a flyby

I have to correct my earlier post
getting rid of the W11 update did not solve the terrain anomalies problem
they’re still there without the update! Arrgh! Seem to built in now.
