ERROR Crash: msfs error: dxgi_error_device_hung (0x887a0006)

I downloaded the game about a week ago and haven’t even been able to move an aircraft yet… I get the Device Hung error on startup at the main screen. All other games run fine, and I’ve tried every solution I’ve found across the internet…

Same for me. Have tried all the same things as others here, drivers, direct x drivers, reinstall, EVERYTHING! never had an issue till this one. Did it before and after the last update also. What is going on, why is this happening to so many and is it being worked on? This will be the very first time EVER I’m having to walk away from trying to solve an issue and just wait. arghh just want to fly man. :I

Exactly same for me. Birthday present to myself, and my first purchase from Black Friday Sales and first install ever from XBox Games… only to find this issue.

It even said “Should play great on this PC”… got my hopes up.

Crashes usually whilst loading the menu, but it did get through ONCE to a flight, then crashed after 20 secs. Works fine if I DISABLE the GPU and run off the Intel UHD internal GPU… but of course it’s not playable. But this does point towards the code handling the GPU is causing the issue.

Such a disappointment whilst trying to “return to flying”.

I hope this gets fixed asap, MS.

Regarding the error, i started getting it again and i think i found my problem. Despite thinking my undervolt/clock on my GPU was stable, well it wasn’t. That is what is causing this crash for me and i suspect that is what is causing it for a lot of people out there.

My advice if you have overclocked/undervolted etc. Be true to yourself, test the sim with it removed (yes your temps may be sky high and thermal throttle etc but see if it crashes)

Or run something better to test your clock such as timespy stress test and a timespy benchmark!

I came to this conclusion because the sim started crashing on what i thought was the most stable driver. After messing with my overclock for hours on end again i realised it wasn’t stable so i have re-tweaked the profile and now with ultra pre-set, lod at 300 on a 3090 and 787 going to/from heathrow, i am back to error free. I have also tried 2 different drives and both have been fine, though for performance i am now finding 536.99 to be good. I have yet to try the latest drives, i didn’t want to change too many things in case it crashed again but i am fairly sure that it was my GPU settings all long.

Again, if you have been messing, reset MSI, lower your settings to compensate, test for a little while!

!!! SOLVED !!!: (for my system, at least)

I’ve implemented TWO CHANGES that now have MSFS running without error:-

  1. Run MSFS in Administrator Mode
  2. Added a new registry item:-

    Location: Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\GraphicsDrivers
    New 32bit DWORD
Label “TdrLevel” and set the value to “0” HEX.

I’m not sure if both steps are needed. I tried with just one step and it didn’t seem to work. So please keep us updated if you need one change or both, if it works for you too.

At last I can enjoy MSFS after so long of not playing any games.

Yeah, check out my post from yesterday. Cheers.

Thanks for confirming this Synthaxe2020. I too was just about to add this value to the registry and try a couple of days back, but I just wanted to eliminate a few other things beforehand to be sure, but looks like this is the go-to fix for this error. Must be pretty common with APEX LEGENDS huh. For anyone wanting another couple of vid on this work-around and a basic description of ‘why’ it works here you go:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYPlSKb3Z4g - an explanation of sorts
and here’s another video explaining how to add the entry:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hGp27HeeVZU
This is completely reversible if you don’t want this later by just deleting the entry so DON’T PANIC if it makes you nervous. If it works then hey, it works!

UPDATE: Ok so after adding the Registry entry, I definitely held the crash off for a bit longer, I was getting consistent crashes before I left the runway, no matter the aircraft and sometimes I wouldn’t make it past the main menu if I spent too long in there, now with the REG entry (which seems to be the only major fix for this I can find on the web) Its smooth stable, 45fps all the way into flight then after about 1 min it consistantly crashes out, the fps tanks to 5 or so and ultimately I have to reboot my computer EVERY TIME as it seems to completely crash the gpu for the whole windows session. So frustrating! anyway, the Reg fix had an effect for me, but ultimately doesn’t stop the crashing.

My questions is this, there are quite a few posts going months back about this issue so either most of them got it sorted one way or another and didn’t update the community or they’ve all given up, which is what I’m going to have to do. I have done EVERYTHING. and I mean everything. re-installations of EVERYTHING, tweaks, the lot, and this is flat out a dead end problem that can only be fixed by the DEVs and perhaps they need to reach out to Nvidia about this issue, I read that the Devs had to collaborate with Nvidia to fix this same issue with APEX LEGENDS. Please sort it out

My issue was on an AMD Radeon, so it’s wider than NVIDIA.

However, I haven’t had the big reoccur since those changes (incl running in Administrative Mode) Did you try that too?

However, my system only permits 15fps, but the GPU runs at 100% and gets toasty!:face_with_head_bandage::blush:

Why is this issue not fixed? I’ve stopped flying MSFS for months now. This is not okay, you pay good money for it and then it breaks and you have to wait for months!

All, same issue here. I’ve also tried reinstalling everything, and all the ideas posted here, including downcloking the GPU, unistalling all the mods, reverting to the vanilla sim, and including a completele reinstalation of the sim. Nothing works. Sometimes it crashes in about 10 minutes, sometimes even just when selecting the aircraft, and occasionally I could finish a flight. This is very annoying for a sim that is expensive and works nicely when it just doesn’t crash ALL THE TIME. Asobo, please fix this, since THIS BUG MAKES THE WHOLE SIM COMPLETELY UNPLAYABLE.

High-end system with Windows 11, DirecX 11, and a RTX 4090.

Always flying in VR.

I am at a point where I seriously consider requesting a Refund on Steam for the full game. I am sick and tired of installing it, downloading the base game without the world updates only to be greeted by the same error.

This is unacceptable as other games, that are way more taxing on the GPU and CPU, do not cause this issue. All while running this sim on lowest graphic settings.

I paid good money for it, the sim worked completely fine in Beta. Now I can’t play it anymore, this does not seem to be a priority as it does not hurt the Developer. This issue has persisted for quite a while without it being adressed. It can’t be solved with constantly having to change GPU drivers etc. There is something fundamentally going astray in the the games code.

exact same issuie for me happened out of nowhere. Second I press “Fly” freezes totally.

This happened during cold starting my PMDG 737 BBJ while sitting on the ramp in HECA.

Can this issue be fixed?

yEP, JUST THE SAME THING OEN ROUTE egbj IN ciRRUS sr22

Sorry I’ll try this with the CAPS lock off this time, and check before I send the message.

I just had this in the SR 22 en route EJBG. It’s happened a couple times inm teh last few weeks. I even rolled back my driver (nVidia GTX1080ti) to 537,13. Performance has been great, smooth etc. The card is not running hot (<60C) and my PC is otherwise functioning normally - no blue screen etc. MSFS is frozen.

Event viewer (Win Applications) has nothing recorded.
