Many people were seeing an error message and the G2 was not connecting. My particular issue ended up being a hardware problem and I had to replace the headset to fix it. The Windows Insider program is an option you can enable in the OS. Search for “Insider” in Windows and you will find it.
Found it… thanks..I wasnt aware of that program .. ..its immediately found this one so giving that a try .. Im backed up fully so it cant hurt LOL (famous last words)

Keep us posted, Bill!
Will do !
Im flying around pretty well at the moment since my earlier original post ..no CTD at all im pleased to say but still the odd quite distracting pause - quite long, so lets see if that update helps at all ![]()

Just as a reminder, the sim has always had issues with adding or removing USB devices while it’s running, I think it’s still in the Known Issues list. So if you’re testing devices it’s best to add or remove while the sim is shut down. Don’t necessarily assume if you plug in something while the sim is running and get a freeze or CTD that that device was the cause.
Not saying this is related to the OP’s issue, just general advice for anyone testing USB devices.
They already knew, and in known issues about unplugging USB devices. But I think it’s about turning them on as well.
I could leave my VR headset plugged in, but it’s not “on” until it’s on your head. That’s when it all go downhill. And the sim locks up.
Maybe it was already known but it was not an actual problem for me until this update.
I recently had a USB issue myself. After the update while flying with friends and using Discord and my Razer Pro wireless headset the earphones stopped working but the microphone still worked.
I shut down the sim and discord, to see if that was it, but still no sound. I unplugged/plugged the wireless dongle and still nothing. Turned off/on the headset nothing, rebooted and nothing.
Finally decided to do a power-off/power-on of the PC and that brought the headset back to life.
Rebooting is not the same as powering off and during a reboot things stay powered on during the reboot. Powering off really shuts and clears things.
That may also help with some USB issues.
Great to hear! Do you mean that the sim pauses when you turn your head. That is a known issue at the moment. This has to to with the new way of rendering objects and we all hope that Asobo will optimize this in future updates because this is one of the issues people are most unhappy with.
The other known issue that was mentioned above is that the sim can crash when disconnecting and connecting usb devices while the sim is running. This also will be fixed in a future update.
Great to see that you’re flying again. Enjoy!!
Not sure this is a device issue. It’s a USB issue as the exact same lock ups happen when you unplug a mouse, Xbox controller, etc
This is really interesting, really appreciate you sharing this! Have a nice day.
I’ve been getting this freezing issue for a long time, long before SU5. But after I tried using the CH Products driver that other people said should be used. I tried it, had issues, uninstalled, it and since then have had issues with a CH Products Throttle Quadrant connected through a powered bus.
But I know what it is, and my quadrant is essential to me, and I don’t have any more ports, so I live with it. Nothing serious.
I don’t understand why people think they are so entitled as to not have to unplug and plug in USB devices. It’s more of a motherboard/USB/hardware issue than a software issue. MSFS is driving this hardware hard, of course more driver issues will show up. There’s not a whole lot Asobo can do about poorly written hardware or poorly designed USB devices/connections/busses/hardware.
If a USB issue is indeed causing the pauses and freezes and input lags, I love how one guy just says “oh, it’s definitely user-side then, so [to paraphrase…] all is well.”
This is the root problem: QA on a flight simulator update should include regression testing using the most popular add-on equipment (not every piece of equipment, but certainly the ones designed specifically for use with the simulator (Honeycomb, Thrustmaster, etc). If there is something as simple as a USB issue with a device causing all of this for so many users (that’s still an if - it has not been decisively concluded), that’s sheer negligence in my opinion in testing. This is a flight simulator…most pilots use flight controls, not XBox controllers (at least before July 27th apparently).
Before anyone jumps my case, I play XBox too, just not for this. This is the first update I’ve had serious issues with and I do NOT complain about little things regularly like a lot of folks on here. Something is dreadfully wrong and it’s not in my setup, I can assure you. FYI, I have put in appropriate ZenDesk tickets for each individual bug noted in the hopes they’re reaching someone who’s working on this.
Well, not really.
If you were running absolutely fine through several versions for months with those exact same peripherals and then along comes an update which might well address specific usb controllers and their behaviour and your software stops working it’s not just a user side issue is it? It’s something that changed in the software.
Bill,
Glad you found the problem and more happy that you took the time to post your results.
That is exactly what makes this forum so great ! Thanks !
Very excited to see this release!
XBOX controller issues here on Windows 10. Camera drifts slowly like in showcase mode in hanger around cockpit with XBOX controller plugged in. No drones or freelook for now as it overrides the POV.
I did a full re-install with NO community add-ons just to be sure. BT Studio kitfox is not working at all but it had numerous problems and soon the //42 version of the Freedomfox will be out anyway so no concern atm. No other bugs found yet.
Resolved my issue. I deleted all control profiles for my device and recreated a new one. No more problems. Of course I should add I never had CTD issues, just problems with diminishing fps and power showing denigrated until the sim was unflyable.
Was this a usb issue? Only to the extent that all my other devices had no problems, drivers hadn’t changed, nothing in the community folder and no scenery issues. I think it is a cloud issue with the profile that existed in the sim. So I don’t know. Only that it affected a usb device.
