I had potentially similar issue in my only flight in the new update - the good news was no CTD, I took off from London City and circled around london for 10 mins - all great at about 35-40fps. Then just as I came to touch down at London City my FPS dropped to 8-11, and stayed that way for a minute or so on the ground before reverting to 35-40fps. I haven’t seen this before. This is in VR on 5090, 9800x3d, 64gb RAM.
Yep…had this since SU2. Looking at buildings I get a drop of 20-25 FPS. When I move away from the terminals, FPS recovers. I recently upgraded from an Intel i91300/RTX4090 to AMD 7-9800 X3D/RTX5090, and both systems produced identical results. I guess there must be some assets that are extremely badly optimised for the SDK? Lowering all settings/res seems to make no difference at all.
Same here, 5700x, 4080s, 64gb.. pretty bad performance landing at TFFJ, it used to be a little slower there for my system but still playable, now its a slideshow.
Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• Yes
Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• Regardless of foveated rendering, there are lots of stutters at handcrafted airports in VR.

• for example but also with other handcrafted/addon EGLL by inibuilds new 2024 version, if you look at buildings/terminals the fps drops significantly. This is with a Pimax Crystal Light, it would appear its the rdr CPU that is the bottleneck. Decreasing the resolution of the headset yields the same drop in framerate, overall CPU is running at 54% (7800 x3d) and the GPU 27% (4090) so would appear to be bottlenecked by the rdr CPU this is both with SU2 and SU3 beta. If you pan away from the Building/Terminal the framerate recovers. Turning down the in sim VR settings on Buildings (and other settings) does not improve the situation so would appear to be independent of the overall settings in VR.

Haven’t played 2024 since March or so. At the time I had gotten a 5090 and was pleasantly surprised that it’s actually playable now, performance-wise. Today I tried it again and performance in VR is just all round awful. Even going down to much lower resolutions (like 4000x) and running DLSS Performance barely improves it. Is this what everyone is talking about here?
We have created an internal ticket to see if our team already has this logged, and if not they will attempt to reproduce the issue and create a new bug report. This item is now marked as feedback-logged. If there is an existing bug report or one is created, we will move this thread to bug-logged.
Same here, when i am on the handcrafted airports fps low down. Normally in flight i have 30-40 fps, but at the airports sometimes i have 11 to 16 fps, sometimes return to 30-40 fps apparently random.
In particular i noted that in flight when i turn my head 90 degrees on the right the fps fall down to 2-3 fps, when i turn my head to the center the fps return to 30- 40 fps and remain the same when i turn my head 90 degrees to the left (always 30-40-fps).
Before SU3 this did not happen at all
My configuration is AMD 7800x3d 32Gb ram and nvidia Geforce rtx 4080 16Gb Vram and Quest 3 cable linked.
currently having same issue but with su2 was working fine a few days ago vr only ,certain airports cannot find anything that has changed . I am back where I was pre SU2 .
Having this issue too. It seems at most (handcrafted / 3rd party) airports the FPS decreases substantially when looking at the terminal buildings and recovers fully when looking elsewhere.
I wish some of the Devs would try an A to B flight from big airports in an airliner like the A330/A320. The issue would be visible rather quickly.
I am playing on 9800X3D and 5090 with DLSS Quality. TLOD and OLOD are on 400/200 with dynamic fps turned on with a target of 33. FPS is capped at 37. Also using Virtual Desktop at 72Hz with SSW on. I am able to maintain 36fps locked for the full flight except during take-off/landing and ground ops at big airports where the FPS dips as descibed above.
The render thread goes into purple during these FPS drops. It definitely feels like the game is loading too many objects at too high LOD.
Worth mentioning that changing the TLOD to 100 made no difference on the ground. Still get these FPS dips and stutters while looking in certain directions.
I’m beginning to wonder if this has something to do with the new/changed (in SU2??) aggressive LOD system that requires Devs to create multiple assets for different proximities… could be that in these 3rd party airports, the maximum detail LOD asset is being displayed all of the time, which may be made worse if the terminal interiors are detailed. Perhaps the airport Devs will need to redesign the scenery to include the different LOD textures? Just a hunch.
I’m sure this was working fine before SU2 though, so perhaps something has changed with the LOD system that caused this? In some ways I hope I’m wrong, as otherwise we would have to wait for the 3rd party devs to redo all of the textures… which could take years and for some airports may never happen.
If that’s the case they would be making developers work even harder by just forcing them to create everything from scratch or adjust all the time. I believe all performance gains are related to LOD adjustments but in the end performance is getting worse and LOD is terrible. I don’t know how long it’s going to take for them to make it correct.
Is it the lod, or cache. My aircraft better be cached by the third time ive used it in the past three flights and gauges are still popping in with blurry textures.
Had this again when landing at EGCC. FPS dropped to single digits just before touch down, and stayed there for 1-2 minutes. It was the same when I exited VR mode and took this screenshot. Seems to be a CPU issue
