Fenix A320 vs FlyByWire A320

I forgot all about the A220 development , that’s the Airbus I really want!

The FBW Experimental version already does this as well. In my last flight, I can import the wind data from SimBrief and it actually calculates my VNAV managed descent at the right place at the right time. I end up descending from the T/D all the way down to the ILS intercept altitude on point without the need to do holding pattern because I’m too high or something.

I like both (obviously I haven’t spent as much time with Fenix as FBW)! But here are some of the things I like and don’t like as much about Fenix compared to FBW:

  • The texture detail in Fenix is awesome and makes the plane feel very real;
  • I like the functional doors, stairs, GPU, etc.
  • Full passenger cabin with nice window textures is awesome.
  • Study level cabin is great but mostly if you want to really get into details of things (once the random failure is implemented it will be even better).
  • The sound in the cockpit is just awesome and I think it’s better than FBW but the sound in the passenger area doesn’t feel as real as FBW! I don’t think the wind sound and back of engine power sound is modeled as good as in FBW so hopefully Fenix will improve that.
  • Wing flex in Fenix doesn’t seem very realistic (the wings barely move and sometimes you can’t even notice it). The FBW which is the original Asobo plane has too much wingflex/movement. The wings in A320 definitely move a lot during taxi, turbulence, etc. so not as little as what’s shown in Fenix, but perhaps not as much as FBW. I am hoping that Fenix improves this feature.
  • Honestly I was hoping that Fenix will have a better performance/fps than FBW as I was thinking FBW is responsible for some of the stutters in the game. Fenix is definitely not better for performance/fps than FBW and it may be worse. I know they are working to improve this so give them some time.
  • The feel of Fenix A320 is very very real! The way it moves in the air is awesome and the way it handles turbulence, landing, etc. is just amazing and in my opinion better than FBW.
  • The flab movement as a result of jet engine in Fenix I believe is the first time in flight sim and it’s just awesome!
  • Fenix obviously has paid attention to a lot of details which FBW hasn’t had a chance yet (since they have been working very hard to get the systems better functioning).
  • And of course we all know that Fenix has modeled the A320 (physical model) pretty much to perfection while FBW is based on the Asobo model which has significant shortcomings. FBW is working on a new model so that should improve their case!

Overall, I like both. I will most likely play Fenix for a while until I get tired of it (if I do!) as I like them as real as they get. But I am hoping they will improve on some of the things I mentioned here (i.e. passenger cabin sound, wing flex/movement, etc.) and I would definitely need an Iran Air paint

This was my 2 cents! Enjoy them all, we are blessed to have these amazing developers making our lives more fun! Cheers to both.

hello/
When I am in the fenix (completely cold and dark) I hear a humming noise. like a tiny engine running. My cockpit on the FBW mod is pin drop quiet. I have attached my sound settings. What am I doing wrong?

Even if it is unrealistic I would like a quiet cockpit. Possible

thanks in advance.

Probably check your ground services. Chances are either a ground power unit or a air con unit is connected and running outside.

Been flying the NEO since it was released from day one and had a few flights in the Fenix now. Defiantly the Fenix it’s just a better package. From how you load everything in and how it flies and sounds etc it’s an amazing aircraft. Well worth the money. Can’t wait for the free IAE engine and sharklets addon that’ll come down the track.

Not even gonna bother with the PMDG 738 I’ll save my credit for the 777 unless they knock it out of the park just like Fenix has.

This is “flight simuation” , not an arcade game

The man who want to have fight simulation will need more “truth” and simulation such as faillures and circuit breakers?

FBW now dosenot have the full-feature of failures, which is not “studt-level” now.

What do they say… The A340 uses the curvature of the earth to take-off…

Gosh I remeber watching them take off from Auckland airport, Tahiti nui, Thai, Cathay Pacific and Emirates and just remembered the whole process like it were in slow motion, taking off, lifting off from the runway…

Thanks. It appears this sound disappears after about 45 seconds or so.

having tried the Fenix for 2 flights (sadly both CTD, likely some kind of conflict with the red wing VHHX), I have to say that at the meantime the Fenix is better in the EFB, more system depths and textures, with quite some not necessary options to deal with (sunshade for one). the difference is noticeable as say for some idiotic mistake like forgetting the APU bleed air, the Fenix will show proper ECAM messages where FBW mostly just can’t start the engines, and in MCDU FBW don’t need you to enter CI for managed speed but Fenix did require it.

Besides all the system depths I would say I appreciate FBW even more as they are working for free, in a year and a half achieving this level of detail for free is really amazing work, and since I didn’t get the Fenix manual (if there’s even one) I did all my cold and dark startup and take off, simbrief import and then do departure/approach settings basically pain free on first time, loading the aircraft or so did need some play around as it’s both addon’s custom system, but hey, it just worked to use what I learnt from FBW to start and fly the Fenix (so probably workable even on a real A320), and FBW is ever improving.

Now what tempts me more is the upcoming who know when will arrive A380X, I am pretty sure it can be a fantastic study level A380 where no payware ever produced

I must be honest I have not flown it in a while. So thanks for correcting that, and this shows how fast the FBW team are moving with this project.

Fenix has no support for home cockpits - which could be a major deal breaker for home cockpit enthusiasts - FBW still ahead

I agree with all your remarks and observations Neo. The FBW A320NX (Exp) more than fulfils my Bus Driver ambitions. I performed a flawless VNAV descent and APPR in to LEPA this afternoon. The cockpit textures are incredible and the sounds mind-blowing.
The Fenix really is for people who are going to spend 80-90% of their Sim time in it and flying it.
I tend to fly the A320 for a few days then go back to SEP GA where I spend the overwhelming % of my sim time - therefore I cannot justify the financial outlay.

24 Hours Later . . .

That having been said I bought the Fenix anyway (I just won’t eat for a week) and it is MIND BLOWINGLY BRILLIANT!!!
By far the best simulation of any aircraft at any level under a Level D.

I thought the ceo was the neo but since the neo was no longer new, they changed it’s name to ceo. Fenix should be neither - the -200.

Continuing …
When I spawn the FBW 320 on to a runway, I don’t hear the engine noise inside the aircraft. This is because I have set aircraft engines to ZERO in general options->Sounds

With the same setting when I spawn the fenix I hear the engine noise.

can someone please help me on how to turn off the engine noise. I realize it is not realistic but would prefer not to blow my eardrums…

thanks

No.. the A320 has always been A320-200 (except for the -100 variant that was only produced in small numbers before it ceased).

The only difference is that the original A320-200 was fitted with either CFM56 or IAE V2500 turbofan engines. But in 2010, Airbus decided to release a New Engine Option (NEO) variant. Which is basically the exact same A320-200 but slap it with a new engine of either the CFM International LEAP-1A or Pratt & Whitney PW1000G engines and with large sharklets on the wings. But everything else is the same airframe with only a few minor adjustments which gave the neo its own ICAO Aircraft designator A20N.

So technically, all A320s are A320-200. The only difference is which engine is attached to it, if it’s the older, smaller engine, that would make it to A320-200ceo (which is what the Fenix is based from), while the new engine would be the A320-200neo (which is what the FBW is based from).

Do this mean, in the Fenix the displays cannot be popped-up? For me, using a basic home cockpit this is an important feature.

Thats right sadly its not possible, there is a section under the T & C, not to be used for home cockpits. I dont completely understand, its a bit ambiguous.

Didn’t know where to ask, thought i’ll shoot here: Anyone can give feedback on the “Improved Cockpit Textures” mod on Flightsimto for the A32NX? Does the performance take a hit with it?

At the moment I can send to the game via buttons/dials, but not found a way to output to a led display.
