Finally, a great MSFS 2020 experience…

I have been using MSFS2020 premium edition on my PC (10900K, 3090, Samsung CRG9). I’ve gone through all the shared disappointments with SUs and WUs over the last year or more. I’ve been angered by performance degradation when ported to Xbox. I’ve experienced region-specific stuttering and controller issues. And, of course, numerous CTDs for no reason. Like so many, My system is sim dedicated to MSFS and my community folder is full of (judiciously picked) stuff (not a lot, not a little). But I can honestly say that the last few weeks jha e been very enjoyable flying…Almost as perfect as in day 1 in October 2020. And yes, I’m really scared about what the next SU will do to ruin my experience once again. I wish I could just freeze the sim where it is and leave it this way forever. And no, I’m not a pilot so I can’t speak for those upset with this lack of a button or that unrealistic ATC. But as a 40+ year flight simmer (Bruce Artwick FS01 for Apple iie) I’m really happy now. Am I alone or anyone else happy with the current state of MSFS?

I find it very nice. My only real complaint is ATC.

Yes. Even with it not being perfect, it’s worth many times what we paid for it. Many many times when you compare it with other hundred dollars items.

I flew the Hype Performance Group’s H145 helicopter for two hours on Sunday, in the Washington DC area. I was on VATSIM, and was flying realistic HEMS flights, using the IRL helicopter route charts, up and down the Potomac River, and around DC proper. The weather was variable low ceilings, areas of rain mixed with snow reducing visibility to about a mile and a half. Popping out of the rain/snow mix into better visibility. So much fun, and immersive, I didn’t want to stop.

Hi

I agree - its been so beautiful to fly for the last month or two…and at moment i am in Beta and apart from one small problem which is now known about (and can be fixed in game)- I have to say it still flies and looks beautiful.
I am not a pilot - dabbled back with 95 and even the X, but this is the most incredible experience.

Agree there are some things that are not true to life (apparently, because I have no way of confirming if they are or not) but the experience and the journey from when you first flick on the power, to the moment you pull up to the gate and the engine roar fades away is completely engaging. And its given me a new appreciation for the beauty and variety of the world, the different countries and their landscapes and a very deep understanding of aircraft and flight. How many times have i flown over an area, seen a little village or town and wondered what it would be like to be there - often imagining I am looking down on life, forgetting its computer generated.

I don’t want to necessarily freeze time - I just look forward to the sometimes rocky road to great flying.

Agreed on many of the points. Since the last updates went pretty well and the BETA so far also seems to be ok, I am not afraid of the nextd updates though and I’m looking forward to the further improvements coming along. It’s really time someone tackled ATC …

I’m also an old simmer, happy to have played every release of MSFS since 1983 and even happier to witness how Realistic this sim has become.

I’m sure it will only continue to get better and better.

Speaking of Pakistan, Northern Pakistan has two peaks that are above 8,000 m, 16+ peaks that are 7,000 m, and countless peaks that are 6,000 m. There are airstrips and helicopter bases. However, they are not listed (the peaks) in MSFS and none of the airstrips is there except for three major airports (Gilgit, Skardu, Chilas) which are also auto-generated.

The detail of the famous valleys and peaks is quite rudimentary. Moreover, there are 21 national parks but not a single of them is listed or is a POI.

So I beg to differ with your hypothesis.

I didnt have a hypothosis moreover there are more that two peaks above 8000m in the Karakoram range alone The Karakoram : Climbing, Hiking & Mountaineering : SummitPost

K2 8611 28,250’ Karakoram Pakistan/China

Nanga Parbat 8126 26,660’ Himalaya Pakistan

Gasherbrum I 8068 26,470’ Karakoram Pakistan/China

Broad Peak 8047 26,400’ Karakoram Pakistan/China

Gasherbrum II 8035 26,360’ Karakoram Pakistan/China

Fair point on the National Parks

there are of course parts of the world that don’t have great satellite photos - today i was flying around Georgia and Ukraine and there are areas that look terrible.

But again - i think there is so much beauty to explore that I can forgive the slight inaccuracies (or lack of DEM data). I look forward to India, Pakistan, Russia and Africa being updated - I don’t even need the POIs - just the DEM data and great satellite imagery!

It also has lots of very short runways with insane approaches. Tons of fun with the TBM 930

Speaking of having an enjoyable time in MSFS, for a lark I took the twin otter off NZDW - Williams Field on the ice in Rossland Antarctica and flew over the base a McMurdo sound. Was actually pretty pleased with the representation of the area right down to the “ice dock” I broke a channel toas a young officer on the USCGC Northwind participating in Deep Freeze 80. Even had a bldg where Scott’s Discovery Hut is located, I flew around Rossland and there was even the opening channel in the ice pack from the ice edge where we would start the resupply channel to the base. Flew over Mt Erebus volcano and was awed on how close the simulation captured the “look and feel” of that unique environment. Definitely had this old sailor reminiscing of a voyage over 40 years ago. Great fun.

That could’ve been written by me, OP.

The worst time for me, like so many others, was straight after the Xb*x thing; finally, it seems to be slowly getting back to its former self overall.

Only yesterday I had a nice trip from Glasgow to Gatwick in the A320 neo (I’m not ready for the FBW yet), and most of the way I was following another plane that was 2000ft above me; it was such an experience. He finally peeled off and went to Stansted. (I use live traffic exclusively.)

I think too much is made of ATC; It’s a sim, for goodness’ sake. Yes it’s inaccurate but I’m learning its quirks; yesterday Gatwick gave me runway 25L using WILLO; WILLO’s constraint is 4000 and I ignored the instruction to go to 2000 and stayed at 4000 ignoring the nags. When I got to WILLO everyone was happy. Other than that, no problem at all.

So yeah: there’s plenty of work to do, but they’re getting there.

(A bit of context: I’ve had flying lessons IRL in which I did well, but I’m no pilot. At my time of life that ship has sailed so this is how I get my aviation kicks and I’m lovin’ it.)

I’m not so happy like you now, i was before World Update 7.
Worl Update 7 has probably decreased the resources affecting the terrain engine ..result: many 3rd-party mesh addons (pay and free) no longer work properly.
May be SU8 will fix it or will broke something else
Default mesh in Italy are very poor, so flying in the Italian Alps is not so exciting.

I agree. Theres something not right with add on mesh and bing imagery at the moment.

For me the sim is running very well too. Just updated Nvidia driver to 511.79 and all good.

I’m pretty happy too. I don’t use all features, mainly the bushflights. After a fresh re-install after WU7, i’m quite content.

I have PXN2119 but impossible to fly H145 !Why?
