When MSFS2024 was released I held off and figured I would wait until the dust settled before making the change.
Give my third party app developers time to get their products updated so I could migrate as seamlessly (as possible).
Then I got close to hitting 5,000 hours in MSFS2020 that I wanted to see that through.
Completed!
Then I had a move coming up and figured I would wait until that was done.
With the move complete, and things mostly settled I decided now would be a good time to re-install Windows 11 and setup everything from scratch, including MSFS2024.
Now to continue researching how best to optimize this things while waiting on the last of my new hardware to arrive and contractor to finish building the sim room.
I was happy to see that we could install locally versus streaming. I have everything disabled I don’t want, everything else downloaded / installed.
I’m curious what drove this decision. I know it just amounts to personal preference for many, but it seems more issues tend to arise from this approach as opposed to the default streamed model.
Man, all I can say is you’re coming at it with the right game plan. Kudos for your methodical approach, it pays dividends to be thoughtful like this with anything that has this many moving parts. You’ll sleep good tonight.
Honestly, I’d suggest leaving stuff streamed. It’s an amazing system, and locally installing stuff doesn’t really do anything beneficial, it mostly makes updating stuff more annoying.
Same thing that happens to locally installed content - when the sim is down, the sim is down. MSFS 2024 requires an always-on internet connection regardless of whether or not certain assets are installed or streamed.
