It may seem a little far fetched, but any one know if fireworks will be seen at midnight around iconic landmarks? ![]()
I dont think so, but you can check already. AU and NZ already living in 2021
I remember flying into Hong Kong Kai Tak on New Year’s Eve (many years ago - IRL) and watching the fireworks exploding over the city as we descended at night. Would love to reproduce this.
Definitely something Asobo could implement 12 months from now? You were very fortunate to see such a thing, right place at the right time. Happy new year.
It was a rare experience and I will never forget it! HNY to you too!
A little off topic, but I remember back in 2001 when I bought the original Operation Flashpoint (also known as ARMA1 I guess), I was deployed overseas running it on my laptop (it was a singleplayer game) and was creeping around the island at night on real life Xmas eve, and I saw something odd in the distance, and I walked up and it was a Christmas tree with lights, which appeared all over the island map in various places. It was obviously hard coded into the software to appear based on the system date, and I remember it because it was the first time I had seen a standalone piece of gaming software do that ![]()
I think there used to be addons available that created fireworks in FSX.
Unfortunately, for the time being, particle effects have not yet been implemented. So I imagine it will be some time before we get such things.
I think @Crunchmeister71 said Asobo is going to wait until they’ve implemented DX12, which he estimated to coincide with the release of MSFS on X-Box (in the summer of 2021?). I have no idea how true any of that is. All I know is the head of FS said they are working on implementing particle effects, and it should be out eventually.
It’s speculation based on available info so far. THey’ve said in a past Q&A that more visual effects would be possible once DX12 was implemented. And while it’s not inconceivable, it’s also not likely that we’ll see DX12 until XBox Series X version is released.
Yeah, I didn’t tie DX12 to particle effects, but it certainly could be. I assumed he meant things like better reflections and ray tracing with DX12. But, maybe it has facilities for particle effects, too? And that they’d prefer to wait for that, rather than having to write the code twice?
They brought it up in the Q&A when asked about contrails, water effects on runways, tire smoke on landing, etc. So I assume that’s what they mean by it. DX12 will allow for more visual effects without affecting performance.
I still think they were targeting holiday season 2020 for the XBox (and DX12) release, but for reasons they’ll probably never tell us, decided it had to get bumped to summer '21. I hope the DX12 part comes sooner than that, as it could help us PC early adopters to have that piece of the puzzle.
Please don’t set any expectations around DX12. They specifically said it will not help performance, but will add some visual effect improvements to the game, but not a ton. It’s no magic salve.
FSX had fireworks, every night on the Vegas strip …
Even FS9 had it. You could dial the date/time to sunset on July 4th and watch them over New York City if I remember right.
