Below are screenshots from the Toms Hardware test of the RTX 5090 Founders Edition.

I currently have an RTX 4090, a Ryzen 7 9800X3D and 64GB of RAM. I play at 2K resolution on an MSI OLED monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate. In Microsoft Flight Simulator, I use ultra settings at 2K resolution, Vsync - on, 33% refresh rate,TAA (DLSS and FG - off).
It seems that, in my case, upgrading from the RTX 4090 to the newer RTX 5090 won’t make much of a difference.
Therefore, I will most likely wait another 2-3 years for Nvidia next GPU series.
For a future proof system maybe. What GPU would you suggest the absolute max for a 1440p and able to run FS2024 on ultra / 4k for a few years?
No it doesn’t. Maybe on specific weird setups, but not on average all the published tests, including an extensive Tom’s Hardware one over many different configs, and the vast majority of anecdotal reports on this forum, show that FS24 is about 30% slower than FS20 when GPU-limited.
Even the second graphic at the very top of this thread..
Weird, why are these numbers so much worse than the ones in the OP? That looks awful.
33% uplift vs 11% at 4k? Strange
FS20 is hardly ever GPU limited, unless you’re running insanely high LODs, or have a really old GPU. FS20 has always been CPU limited, you can see that in TenPatrols screenshots that were running DX12 ultra settings.
What you say is probably true for 2D, not for high res VR though. And that’s the only thing I care about. I’m GPU limited with 4090, as are many others. It’s even worse (by about 30%) in 2024.
Yeah, VR is typically GPU limited, but we’ve not really seen any benchmarks for VR, unfortunately.
I get much better performance on 2024. I’m no longer CPU limited. It’s just way better.
That power draw is insane though…
Remember those days when AMD was considered the power hungry alternative?
Cool, sadly not the case for everyone though. You were probably CPU limited before. For people who were GPU limited it’s the other way round, we lost lots of performance.
Back on topic: Tom’s Hardware results seem a bit lower than, for example, Gamers Nexus. Unfortunately GN didn’t test any MSFS though.
Where are the numbers in the OP from?
EDIT: Seems to be Tech Testers. Wonder what they did differently lol.
It seems that we will have to wait for detailed tests conducted by flight simulator enthusiasts.
Yeah. 30%+ it’s an easy buy for me, 11% no way!
I wonder if Tom’s Hardware maxed out LODs and somehow became CPU-limited? This discrepancy Doesnt really make sense and is also quite out of line with the other boosts at 4k.
You should give the new DLSS 310.1.0.0 dll’s a go, they are pretty amazing. Much faster, sharper and better FG.

Thank you for the information. However, I don’t use DLSS or Frame Generation because, for me, these technologies are unnecessary. My eyes are sensitive enough to easily spot fake frames and the degradation in image quality when DLSS and/or FG is enabled.
You could atleast try them and see if it changes your mind.
Cool, thanks. Have you tried it yet? Does it make a visible difference in 2020 and/or 2024?
It works really nice in 24, dont have a full install of 2020.
Cool, will try it tomorrow in 2020.
