Flight Replicas DH.94 Moth Minor

I was surprised not to see a topic on this. I was late picking it up because I was waiting for it to be released in the FS2024 Marketplace, but now it’s available for both sims.

Flight Replicas’ DH.94 Moth Minor is a great little touring plane and a wonderful companion for the Tiger/Gipsy/Fox Moth biplanes already available. Flight model feels really good, lots of fun details like the folding wings and a hidden compartment with modern radios, and a retrofitted autopilot. Both open-cockpit and coupe models are available. And a whole bunch of civilian and military liveries are included.

It’s a darn nice deal at $11.99 US.

How does it measure up to Ant’s Tiger Moth? It’s still the gold standard for these sorts of antiques.

Ant’s Tiger Moth is amazing, and is definitely the most detailed simulation of a DH plane of this era.

The Flight Replicas Moths (they now have the Minor, Gipsy, Fox, and Leopard) don’t have the persistent wear-and-tear features of the Tiger Moth. And they don’t have the custom soundset. If you only buy one, definitely get Ant’s.

But at $11.99 each, the Flight Replicas moths are definitely fun for DH/1930’s aircraft fans who want to experience the different planes of the era. Great visuals, flight modeling feels really good, decent simulation of engine/fuel operation (sans stuff like wear and fouling that Ant’s has), and they’re really fun in VR. The only disappointment is that they don’t have custom sounds. (The Asobo sounds they use are fine and not bad in any way, it’s just more “knowing” the Tiger Moth’s are cloer to ther real thing.)

I’ve just watched Avangel’s review of the DH85 Leopard Moth - where she was finding lack of access to the manual in 2024 a nuisance - and was moved to make the following post, which I expect, with due allowances for a different model, will also apply to the DH.94.

“If you’re in the MSFS 2024 Sim Update 3 beta, you can install the Leopard Moth to the Packages/Official2020 folder. You can then navigate to the fr-aircraft-dh85leopardmoth folder*, and from there you then go to to simobjects/airplanes/dh85_leopardmoth, and in that folder you’ll find the manual.”

*If you’re on Steam, as I am, you’ll have to step through the Steam subfolder.

Also, you can just email Flight Replicas and they’ll happily send the manual.

But I did the SU3 download thing.

Happy to see this coming out for 2024. I’ve really been enjoying their Gipsy Moth. Not up to par with Ant’s Tiger Moth, but still great fun. I’ve been flying both all over the world while I was reading Alexander Norman’s bookmon de Havilland and his Moths.

I’m looking forward to trying this one out. Also, I’d like to recommend the Klemm 25 of similar design. It’s officially 2020 only, but it works fine in 2024 with some 33% down trim.
