What’s everyone’s thoughts about the Flight Replica’s MK1 Spitfire ?
Im liking her so far, she flies nice interior sounds are good, exterior sounds could use a bit off a tweak, the exterior modeling looks pretty good IMO
Do feel Flight Replica’s aircraft always go in the same kinda direction, they look fantastic, sound pretty poor (or use incorrect default sounds) and pretty vanilla flight models.
Without a free castering tail wheel it just isn’t anything like what a Spitfire, or indeed any tail dragger, would potentially handle.
I like the look of it, the Mk1 is the most aesthetically pleasing to my mind but it would have to have a decent flight model and sound for me to invest in it.
I really enjoy this but have some gripes. Not loving the sound inside or especially out… the samples are nice but there is some looping, but the external sounds are rough at least on my PC, seemingly not everyone hears what I hear which is like listening to a recording of an engine on a walkie talkie.
It’s very well modeled and textured. It’s very photogenic. The flight model doesn’t have much character, but I can’t claim to know what flying this legend would be like.
I’m not disappointed in my purchase, but I do feel like it needs a few touch ups in the audio and flight model department.
So far I really like the Spitfire, the flight model and systems don’t feel as alive/complex as the Flying Iron Mk IX, but the visual model is fantastic (created from original drawings) and it’s still fun to fly. I think in total 11 different Spitfires are depicted, all with small differences, due to field modifications or production changes, like different mirrors or instruments. I think this could be the most authentic visual depiction of a Spitfire in any sim so far!
And it’s great to see multiple variants added to the sim. I’m really looking forward to the Mk.V and Seafire packages that’ll come later.
I just made a video with the Mk.IIa over Forwood Farm doing a bit of aerobatic flying and a “You can teach a monkey to fly better than that”-landing (of course totally on purpose ). Maybe it can help someone who’s on the edge about getting it.
Unlike any other Spitfire made for MS Flight Simulator, this one has been built to the original Supermarine factory blueprints. In addition to this Mk.Ia and Mk.IIa, Flight Replicas are also working on some later variants, including a Mk.V and a Seafire III.
Not too impressed so far. It seems that the RPM and throttle levers do not move when you use or adjust them, neither from in the cockpit using the mouse, or when I simply use my HOTAS. They both function when I use the HOTAS but they do not move in the plane. When I try and use the mouse, they simply do not move or work at all. No way to use flaps for me either. Again, it shows that they are assigned to the flaps on my HOTAS but they do not work at all. I cannot use the mouse to deploy them either.
Thus far I have only taken off from runway and have not attempted a cold start as I have some time constraints this weekend. Quite frankly, I’m skeptical that it will go smoothly as so far, the most important controls seem to be problematic. I fly the spitfire in DCS quite a bit so I am pretty familiar with it. So far, this version falls incredibly flat.
I like the looks of the plane. I honestly don’t mind the sound all that much. It seems to have a lot of potential to be a great plane. But right now, I’m not too fond of it. I will attempt a cold start tomorrow evening and see what happens. But as of right now, I’m probably apt to shelve it until they work some of this stuff out.
Lastly: am I the only one who can’t find the bubble in this airplane? I have to guess where my rudder is. I know it has to be somewhere but I looked all over for it…Can’t find it.
Sometimes MSFS does this randomly with add-on aircraft. I’ve had it happen to a half-dozen planes over the past couple of years.
Just shut down the sim, reboot the computer (or Xbox), and restart the sim. Chances are the plane will move and not have this issue again. (Until it randomly happens when loading another plane 3 months from now.)

Thanks for your reply. I have tried the restart ,even uninstalled it and reinstalled it with the same result. I have been flying the flying iron spitfire for a while now and haven’t had this problem.
Bubble…Slip scale…Potato potato…You know what I mean. But…I found it after I went back into DCS and remembered where it was. It’s been a while.
Tried cold start…Naaa…This plane isn’t worth the money unless you just want to start from runway and play more of an arcade style. Cockpit interaction is just poorly done. Hopefully they’ll get this stuff fixed. I do like the plane, it’s just not a simulation plane.
Thanks that’s the sort of comment I was hoping to see. Think I’ll keep waiting for flying irons to have a sale.
I’m not sure of the price difference so it may be an unfair comparison if this was maybe $15-20 it could still be a worthwhile pickup as can’t justify the cost of the FI one right now.
