May be just me but the external model looks off somehow… Can’t quite put my finger on it. Might be just the screenshot angles.
Could be that your brain is trying to fit the long nose of the Mk.IX and later models on to this beautifully short-nosed Mk.I
I am not sure how you arrive at your statement that this is the only Spitfire built to factory blueprints. Ours (Aeroplane Heaven) and I am pretty sure others (Like Flying Iron) were too. It is not unusual for developers to acquire blueprints and engineering drawings when compiling assets for a project. In fact if you want accuracy they are practically mandatory. We also had assistance and drawings supplied by restorers of the real aircraft.
I am all for enthusiasm over products but please check your facts before making such crashing statements.
I’m not trying to drag anyone else’s work, but when making comparisons, I would say that other company’s use of original factory blueprints/techinical drawings seems typically rare and far between. The Flight Replicas Spitfire Mk.I and Mk.II are without a doubt the most visually accurate and most accurately detailed of any Spitfire built for Microsoft Flight Simulator to-date (my answer to when people ask why another Spitfire), and I’m really looking forward to the Flight Replicas Spitfire Mk.V and others Mike has in the works (I really wish he might eventually make a Hawker Hurricane too).
Agree with this 100%
There is no need to disparage one to praise another - happens everywhere with far too much frequency.
With the competition being fairly stiff I believe there would be no point to starting work on any project aircraft for flight sim - especially one of the most iconic types - without diligent research and the acquisition of as many true technical drawings and photographs, measurements and details as possible.
The process of creating an accurate model is now so involved that failure is not an option. We need more developers - not fewer - and that kind of public disparagement is in no way helpful toward that end.
…that said I’m a +1 for a Hawker Hurricane of any Mark
If you go to our (AH) Facebook pages, you will see that we are launching a Hurricane.
Again, on what do you base your claim? This is your opinion only. You cannot possibly know how any developer goes about their projects. If you do not own all the other examples and have accurately and scientifically compared, then your claim is purely subjective opinion and nothing else.
I would but I’m no fan of Zuck - glad to hear this news though.
Interesting to see what gets some developers to actually show up on these forums.
I like both FIying Irons and Flight Replicas. I will probably buy Aeroplane Heaven’s when they do the update and add the prototype, etc.
Having seen the thumbnail on the marketplace I was sceptical about buying, but I love warbirds and decided to take the plunge and buy.
I’m glad I did.
The external modelling is simply fantastic and looks superb. The cockpit is well laid out and everything is where it should be. Overall a crisp and clear and fantastic looking cockpit.
Startup procedure is good, and works well. Maybe overpriming the engine would be a nice touch, but not vital.
A few issues that were found have promptly been addressed and the update is with testers now.
A big one that people complained about was the sound…
I hated it at first, it didn’t sound right. But I think I was spoilt by the FI Spit and that wasn’t fair on FR. After a few flights the sound grew on me and it was acceptable. It is however being changed to the Asobo sounds for the P51 due to the majority complaining and wanting that one instead.
This product overall is very good and worth the low price. I’d buy it over AH any day of the week.
Good review. Would you be able to expand upon in which particular areas this one is better than Aeroplane Heaven’s?
All of them to be honest.
Overall, it’s a fantastic looking product, and it flies well. I wouldn’t say perfect, but it doesn’t advertise to be. It’s advertised to fly and enjoy.
I feel for the Devs though, as the original sounds were marmite. Either loved or hated. However, to please the masses they’ve gone with the Asobo sounds that they use in the P51’s (not perfect, but certainly not bad).
The cockpit layout is superb (as previously mentioned) and dials work. Canopy opening and closing makes sound, the side door opening also makes sound. The pilot is not only a WW2 pilot, but also wears authentic gear for 1940.
Futher more, the developer (Flight Replica) are pretty much transparent and more than happy to engage with people and talk about what issues or things that may need a fix.
Taxiing the aircraft is good. It’s very light on the controls, so too much speed or rudder and you’ll scrape the wings and noticeably hear It too.
The Devs are trying to find that happy medium between those who want a full authentic flight, and those who want to just enjoy the spitfire. This I feel like they’ve achieved.
Now, this is only my 2 cents, so perhaps find out a little more or ask around a bit.
I’ve just had a look at your Facebook page..
It’s erm.. not great unfortunately. I see some fantastic images of a Hurricane and Spitfire, and details of a pre Xmas release of the Hurricane? Yet no update on the Facebook page since before Xmas, and people asking questions? Unfortunately (my apologies) it’s one of the worst Devs run Facebook pages I’ve seen. Perhaps update it a bit more often and interact more with the people that buy your products?
Fantastic shots of the aircraft though, they look great. It’ll be tough competition with Spitfire MkV as FR are also doing one and they’re work is top draw. However, you can never have enough warbirds.
I look forward to seeing more (recent!?) updates on your development stuff.
Something really wrong with this aircraft flight model.
Trim straight and level, look outside and the plane is flying with the nose 5 degrees to starboard.
From level pitching up and a weird roll to the right starts with the opposite when pitching forward.
I checked this on 2 different flight controllers.
Should never have been released like this.
And a button to switch on the pilot, really?
Cannot use mixture with my TM Warthog HOTAS; handle in the cockpit simply sits there. Have to move it using the mouse, simply unacceptable.
Otherwise a very beautiful model.
EDIT: The mixture as a function works fine, by binding an axis, but the animation in-cockpit does not work.
