Wow, you can actually do that? I just assumed it was locked, somehow. That certainly makes a lot of things a whole lot easier! Thank you for setting me straight.
I think you would also be wise to make a symbolic link to the folder in the original location so when updates are available via marketplace it can still “find” and update it?
@secretfarmerGal do you do this? Any problems if you don’t?
Good point
when it is removed from official , MSFS content manager sees it as owned but not installed. So no i just reinstall it via content manager when there is an update then delete the old one and re put it from official back to mod managers area. The only downside i know of is that it wont tell there is an update automatically but i often check manually and hardly anything ever gets updated. I usually only move airports to mod manager as i will disable them if i’m not flying in that area of the world, no point having US airports loading up if i’m flying the UK but aircraft i usually just leave in official as i want them available all the time
The mod manager i use only puts symlinks to the community folder not to official
so haven’t the ability to do that
You can get other apps that do it easily. I use this:
i prefer the one i use as it all categorised under continents, countries and states so withone click i can turn a country on and off and i have over 1350 mods
In Addon Linker there’s an advanced option to allow it to handle Official content folder stuff. Tons of warnings as it can mess up Asobo default stuff but it seems to work fine for third party marketplace stuff:
I gave the Berlin Tempelhof 1935 spin as well and it’s pretty neat, the old terminal building is quite nice and there’s even a tram that goes up and down the road outside the airport. Not as much lighting around the field as you get with Croydon and no runway marked out on the grass as with Croydon but hey it’s 1935 and I can just take off any way I want on the grass.
They also removed Tegel and Berlin Brandenburg airports with the Tempelhof scenery. Tegel is replaced with woods but I did spot jetways and some parked AI planes amongst the trees which was a little odd but I assume can be fixed up. The new Berlin Brandenburg has been replaced with fields and no visible jetways or parked AI planes here although one of the runways is now a weird water thing. I did spot another player taxying around Berlin Brandenburg on what appeared as regular fields for me which amused me. There were some weird terraforming effects as well from some removed roads as well.
Anyway here’s some Tempelhof pics
Hi all!
I was looking at maybe getting some of the Redwing 1935 airports but wanted to see if anyone had experience with using an managing them? I read that “This scene creates an MSFS world in 1935”. I’m guessing its only for that airport, so for example if I installed the Redwing Chicago Midway, it would replace the current one and I would have to reinstall through Content manager or the 3rd party app to restore later?
Yeah if you have a payware modern Chicago Midway you’ll have to uninstall it when enabling the 1935 Redwing one or the sim will load up both of them and then you’ll get some major clashing going on, then just reinstall it when uninstalling the 1935 one to get it back.
You can also use Addon Linker. There’s an advanced option to let it manage stuff from the ‘Official’ content folder where marketplace items go. I have it enabled for the 1935 Croyden and Tempelhof airports I have and use it to enable or disable without having to go through the hassle of re-downloading them every time or manually mucking about moving folders and I’ve had no problems with it. You do get warnings about it being experimental and that it can cause problems but it seems fine for managing airports.
Planes with an ADF will love the 30’s & 40’s !!
Thanks for the info all! Thats a big help!
Just bought the 1935 USA (Xbox) and it did nothing in the sim. Even deleted everything except the 1935 USA ad on….alllllllll still the same don’t waste your money
I don’t know for xbox, but (on PC) you can notice the usa-1935 addon immediatly with :
- less city lights during the night
- morse light beacons (try where they were located, ex. near NYC)
- plane pilots/copilots characters
- on ground : fuel trucks, cathering, etc (not workers)
Re loaded the sim and the mp aircraft are different the wa monument has scaffolding Rushmore is under construction.
All airport aircraft and ground vehicles are the same can’t notice a big difference at night. Not sure this should be $15 to just do that. There are skyscrapers everywhere. On the market it states it “deeply” modifies the sim……
I’ve got three questions about these 1935 era airports from Redwing for anyone who has thoughts
First, if you have a few of them, will it give an immersive experience? I’m worried the rest of the modern world will throw it all away and the old airport will feel more like a museum. I guess I’m just looking for personal experiences!
Second, how’s the quality? I’ve bought enough airports to see a vast difference between some of them, however these are rated pretty decently on the market.
And last, would be they be historically accurate for early WWII? Perhaps this is a poor question as it might come down to individual ones. I would presume so, although I know things changed very rapidly around that time.
I have a few USA East Coast Redwing airports and enjoy them.
As other airports around were too “noisy” (too much lights) I made a mod with a few parts :
- airports from that time missing in the game (info taken from archives)
- airports from that time changed to their historical setting (mostly grass runways, small buildings, fields around)
- closed modern airports inexistant at that time
You can add one or all of them to complete Redwing airports in that specific area
You’ll find it on fs.to
Thanks for your reply! That’s good info.
to be more precise : the USA-1935 package contains no airport but changes default objects : trafic, trucks & people on ground (some of them are still default ones, it seems to be a bug currently investigated)
It also contains
- a few iconic scenes
- night (& bad weather) light beacons
- and one thing I find very nice : lights reduction : cities are faded
With all that, it’s easy to navigate by night or bad weather. But not so easy to land, it depends on the airport
So, in the end, if you choose carrefully the places you fly through you can get a pretty nice level of 30’s immersion.
I recommend a few “addons” :
- Radio navigation Radio Range Navigation for Microsoft Flight Simulator | MSFS (data from 1944)
- and music for your passengers
1930-1937 Radio News : WA4CZD : Free Download, Borrow, and Streaming : Internet Archive
This is really starting to sound like an appealing idea. I think I need to go through and see what all airports there are and how many I want. With the new Stratoliner I’ve got a growing collection of “old” aircraft.
This is really great. Have any of you heard if other epochs are being worked on - like early 60’ties with all the first classic jetliners and the ultimate of propliners. I loved the Calclassic in the previous MicroSoft sims and would like to see something similar in MSFS.
