Flightfx Citation X

Any results as far as the Streamdeck XL device snippet/ Thanks

I bought it in 2024, and it also shows up in my 2020 version. My friend I was flying with yesterday, bought it in 2020, but its not showing up in his 2024. What does he need to do?

Hi guys, just want to know what I did wrong. in FMS active leg, there are no ETA for each waypoint like in real aircraft. It a basic information to display time for each waypoint at any given time calculated by FMS. Did I miss to set up or input something? Thanks

Hi,

I miss the ETE/ETA information in the FLT PLN page as well.

Hope this will be implemented soon.

Normal for engines to fluctuate so wildly at cruise when AT is enabled? They’ll spool up and down and it struggles to hold a spot on the barber pole.

I’ve kinda put this bird to the side until we get their first update which according to their Discord will resolve a lot of these issues. How soon? Who knows.

Can’t say I’ve noticed that

I have. Also I don’t know if that’s my system but when the engines go to idle at TOD everything gets so quiet that I’m always worried that my engines stopped working  But it’s an awesome aircraft anyway.

Comparing X to default CJ4 how much better (or not) is X in terms of fidelity, fm, systems?

Well, having now flown this for myself, I really can’t figure out all the raving reviews for this plane. Even considering that it is of course an older design, it feels worse in every aspect than the Longitude which got a hefty update for 2024 and now is really a great plane. But getting back to the plane at hand, this I what I noticed during my two test flights today:

  • Flight Model: like everyone saying this is great, but I think it feels terrible? This plane is pushing at most 16 tons of weight into the air, and yet once there it feels like a brick. No reaction to the wind and super sluggish and slow controls just make it no fun to fly at all. Like literally, this thing is lightweight and yet feels more stable and sluggish in the air than everything else I’ve flown in 2024, including the 777 with almost twenty times the MTOW.
  • The LNAV system is also super wonky, trying to fly into LSZS just ended up being a great disappointment. Trying to fly the RNAV 03 with PELAD transistion just deleted half the approach in the FMC everytime I choose direct PELAD and the other half didn’t even show up in the map nor was I able to follow that approach with the automation at all. In the end, I just visually eye-balled it to the airport.
  • Talking about flying the alps, why is there no GPWS on this thing? I guess it makes flying in a high mountain airport more of a thrill, but realistic it is not at all. And even the video a couple of post above this one shows the real plane actually has this. As do other default planes, so it is not a sim limitation.
  • Not sure if this is me lacking knowledge or a bug in the plane, but some of the flows in the FMC are really weird. E.g. POS INIT always looks like it needs to be done, even if the plane is properly aligned and everything. Also, the only way to get back to the TAKEOFF DATA page is confirming the whole takeoff data page again? This seems kinda weird, I would take off perf to lead to that page directly instead once it is properly setup.
    • as noted before, missing ETA/data for every waypoint the FMC feels really off these days, not something I would expect from a payware addon
    • VNAV profile also seems wonky and really does not like discontinuities, apparently? On the same approach as above, it wanted me to descend below a restriction after the disco before getting there.
  • On the minor nitpick sides, really don’t like the outside model and texturing, it looks super flat and boring. Inside is okay though.
    • The default C&D state always having the engine out of cutoff and the generators on really feels off. The whole cutoff handling in this plane is not great IMO, that part should not be part of the throttle axis but instead just be a toggle like in the CRJ.

So all in all, I’m kinda disappointed that they never enabled rentals for this addon, even though they might a big deal out of those at the very same time that this plane was released. Would have saved my 30 bucks and one disappointment. But maybe some dev will take this list and improve the addon, until then it will just collect dust in my library.

I think this has been discussed but I can not find. Is the DME working and if so how do you turn it on?

I’m not a Citation X pilot IRL but my company has a couple and based on what I know:

The handling seems to reflect everything I’ve heard about the real thing. It’s a ā€œpigā€ in the air. It’s optimized for high, fast flight so it’s rather compromised when it comes to handling in the slower regimes.

My personal experience with the LNAV capabilities has been fine but I haven’t put it through any particularly challenging scenarios.

No idea about the GPWS, haven’t been in a situation that would have triggered it yet AFAIK.

The FMC is definitely a bit weird and has more of a ā€˜lateral flow’ to it if I may call it that. The manual has a really nice diagram of the page structure and hierarchy though. PERF will get you to the main menu where you can go to any of the sub pages from which you can step through the NEXT and PREV. That’s pretty much it. It’s not really linear like what you find in the Boeings (Smiths systems IIRC?) I’d definitely have (another) read through the manual regarding the FMC and general operations though.

I’m pretty sure the Gen switches are actually just left on unless there’s a reason to trip or isolate them so that’s not necessarily inaccurate. It may vary from operator to operator though. I haven’t ever loaded the aircraft up C&D and found the levers out of cutoff though. That’s a strange one.

Thanks a lot for your thorough reply, great hearing some experience from the real world

Seems then like half my gripes are just assumptions based on other sim add-ons that might necessarily hold true, and the other half being easily fixed bugs/omissions. Especially for the LNAV part, I did also hear from some others that had similar issues at other airports. Maybe the plane at the moment simply does not like RNAV approaches, even if that would be a shame, since I guess it faces these much more regularly in its operation than bigger jets.

It’s certainly not the easiest plane to handle in terms of setting up and flying an RNAV approach. Even with the vertical profile display, there just isn’t the same level of situational awareness we’ve become used to. I’m not sure when exactly the Honeywell Primus system went into service but I know the Citation X dates back to 1996 and the Learjet 45 uses the 1000 series having first flown in 1995. It’s about 30 years old now.

I think I fly most aircraft in the sim expecting it to do something weird on every approach, that way I’m ready for it lol.

I’m curious about your C&D levers out of cutoff situation though. I wonder if that’s potentially a hardware interference issue or a weird bug. It’s definitely got some state saving issues (like the EFB options for units for example) but I’m not sure the idle/cutoff setting has been mentioned before.

It works fine. There is a switch on the left side of the unit. Up is on.

The X definitely has a unique flight model Co pared to any other plane I’ve flown in 2024, heavy on the controls? Yes but as Eyaen said that seems to check out with the real airplane. Personally I’m quite happy with the way it feels, it’s different from a lot of the fly by wire airplanes out there, and yea the PMDG 777 feels snapper but that might also be true to the real plane.

On a flight I had set up for the landing, ATC changed the runway on me. I could not for the life of me change the landing runway in the FMS. Is there away to do this after it has been set the first time?

NAV - Arrival - and then press DEL on runway, approach and star to remove everything and choose the new runway

I made a world Tour of 45.000 km with the Citation X purely in VR and I loved it. One of my few favourites now.

Only issues I have are, that mouse in VR is Not properly programmed. Seems to be sometimes in different layers. Closing right eye helps. Second issue, the lights of activated Buttons like NAV VNAV APPR HDG and others are not always visible. When activating ist visible, after time the lights are not shining anymore, despite activation.

I fly that way in the real world too. ā€œWTH is it doing now?ā€ is something one should always be looking for and wary of.
