Any thoughts on why I cannot start the Flight simulator directly from the WindowsApp folder with a double click. It keep telling me I don’t have permission, which I should have as admin. I can start it from the desktop shortcut and from the Windows appstore.
When I go into the security settings I get this window which is very strange to me.
Thanks for the input Folks it was purchased direct from the store and I did have to change some permissions to even get access to the community folder but not being able to directly open the .exe file is just stupid.
It screws up using my Stream Desk with the sim because I should be able to make the Stream Desk open the Flight sim profile automatically when FS starts IF I can select the .exe but nope it’s not happening which is a pita.
To be fair though, one of the biggest problems that holds back PC gaming in the industry is the problem of users being able to modify files at will, and some install hacks so they can cheat.
Therefore, I am not adverse to this concept of game files being locked down.
Although, I recently ran into an issue where local file access would have been beneficial. Specifically, I needed to install 360ce in the games binary directory to work around a controller bug. That just isn’t possible with this security scheme.
But I blame the ones who cheat in video games for me not being able to install what I needed to fix my bugged game, not the platform.
So … Can you or can’t you interact with the exe? All Ms games have this problem as I cannot add them to a corsair icue custom profile and neither can nvdia control panel
I can load the game from the desktop shortcut or from the link in the Microsoft store, I cannot load it by double clicking the Flightsimulator.exe in the folder shown above. Your issue is similar to mine, I want to ‘add’ the sim to my Stream Deck to load the correct SD profile when the sim starts
the ‘directory’ you point to in the program files/windowsapp directory is a LNK file ( container with directory inside ). you can’t run/change anything in there since it’s a LNK file.
the community folder which I can access and load in new liveries and scenery is D:\WpSystem\S-1-5-21-606122713-xxxxxxxxxx-14863122-1003\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalCache\Packages\Community
In the “Advanced Security Settings for FlighSimulator”, change the “Owner” to the group “Administrators”.
Make sure you select to apply to all subfolders/items as well. Now you will normally have access rights.
However, do this at your own risk. I never had any problems with it, but you worst case you will need to reinstall some stuff.
I understand the lnk files are just desktop shortcuts pointing to executables or other files/folders etc. The file I’m trying to execute is the FlightSimulator.exe file which is the program.
I get this permissions error trying to launch the programme directly from the executable
I’ve tried the standard permissions changing using right click>security>advanced>change ownership and get this window coming up. FWIW I own the pc and I do have admin rights on everything else on the system.
for you it’s D:\WindowsApps\Microsoft.FlightSimulator_1.7.14.0_x64__8wekyb3d8bbwe.LNK < when you click it the LNK gets activated and will show you a container with the fulll direcory inside…
the Actual exe file in there is hidden inside a gameimage only accessable by windows itself…
this is done to ‘protect’ the game from being copied/altered…
I did try at the top level folder before I came across the problem but it didn’t change anything even when I selected sub folders etc. It’s an annoyance more than anything as the game works extremely well, even allowing for all the small bugs. I can manually load the Stream Deck profile to supplement all the other controllers at the moment. It would just be nice to set a SD profile to load when the sim starts
Welcome to the wonderfull world of microsoft store , i wanted to change the menu music coz i get bored of the 15 second loop being played over n over n over … yepp also hidden in the gameimage …
