FlyByWire Simulations | A380X alpha | Discussion

Dear team of FlyByWire Simulations,

What an amazing job you did already on the your new A380X Alpha!

Thank you so much and happy flying,

Keep up your amazing work!,

Greetings

Boy this plane is crushing my system. Went to the 4K version, but still got a CTD loading into the airport. Now on my fourth attempt.

How do thrust reversers work in the A380X? There is no reverse show on the throttle and no click-spots I can see.

In all other planes I have “toggle reverse thrust” set to a button, and then when I push my levers forward the engines go into reverse. Can’t seem to figure out how to do that here. Any tips?

I’d go visit the calibrate throttle section in te EFB. I’ve only done one flight so far, and I didn’t set my simple (no reversers) throttle up before hand, so idle throttle was set to reverse for me. Seems to be just ENG 2 & 3 that do the reversing on the A380.

The performance can be improved by disabling the cabin. There’s a clickspot for that, helped me a lot with my fps…

Its is just the levers for the reverse thrust that are not animated (yet?).
To check if your reversers are working either monitor the engine page or sitch to external view.

Be aware that only ENG 2&3 have reversers on the A380.

From the EFB you can set your reverse including all the other sets of the thrust.
I was surprised to see that the thrust levers in the cockpit don’t have the reverse and the 2 black small levers on their tops are not functional. I wonder if this is by design or it’s just a WIP.
BTW ,by setting the reverse on the Efb (set from throttle) you will notice that it’s activated on engines 2 and 3 only. It works when I put my quadrant levers on the Reverse detent (in the cockpit it will be at idle…)but the effectiveness is very low. Did a trial on the runway…when thrust is on Idle the plane advance very slowly…then if you put the Reverse “ON” it can hardly stop it.No way to see the plane going backward as it usually happens

on other liners.

I updated my Clean Glass mod to include the FBW A380. This time also with clean displays.
This should in no way mean, I find the original FBW A380 textures bad or something like that. It just really bothers me and a lot of others, when there are dirt and scratches on the windshield glass and/or on the display glass. In real life I most likely would always carry wipes with me and try to clean the displays before I start preflight ^^.

Cheers

Most import thing is - dont test this with engines off, because the levers arent animetd yet. First start the engines, then test if they go to reverse with you settings/buttons. Use the engine gauges or external view to check reverse.

Quick review, considering this is alpha and free it is probably the most amazing thing we got in the sim so far.

The stuff I really like:

OANS is fantastic, with a Navigraph sub you just have the airport map in the ND and it works great.
BTV fully implemented and works perfectly, this is a very unique system and I’m very happy to have it in this plane heck of a job by the team.
Autopilot: LNAV, VNAV work really well.
MCDU: Being used to the A350 I found it fantastic, only a few things are missing but so far the job is great and works really nicely and is completely different to the old Airbus style MCDU.

The stuff I’m not sure about:

FlightModel. I don’t know, the plane feels a lot lighter to me than what it should be, it can float with engines at idle which I find almost impossible give the weight unless gravity stops working. It also feels light on takeoffs it wants to fly way below VR. Adding to this crosswind seems to affect the plane more than what I think it should given its size.

Having said that I’m not an A380 pilot so it might be the flight model is correct and I’m just not used to it.

Performance: Yes it is quite bad but the plane is not optimized yet, so we just have to wait patiently and hopefully it will improve.

Things I would like to have

A Taxi Cam is I think paramount in this behemot to taxi around airports.

A HUD, Korean, Asiana and Qatar have HUDs installed on their A380s so that would be nice to have too.

Some systems / buttons that are missing like the SURV page and the 4 buttons on the pedestal that are always on for the SURV system.

For those of us still on 1080p monitors, can we make 2k textures with the paint kit? I’m wondering if that can improve performance since my rig will not show anything in 4k anyway. When on 1080, 2k textures still look very good.

Thanks, this was it. They do in fact work, but levers are not animated.

Fourth time’s a charm.

UGHH!!! Another CTD.

Well, I guess this might have to just stay in the hangar until updates start coming to fix performance.

It feels like a house of cards. Once you get it going, don’t touch anything. This time I went to open a browser window on my other monitor, and the instant it went to open, everything froze and the sim crashed.

Which clearly implies it’s a WIP, wouldn’t you agree??

Er…same thing, me thinks.

How much VRAM and RAM do you have. This aircraft is crazy hungry in regards of RAM/VRAM. On a good 3rd party Airport I get 32GB out of my 64GB RAM full and 14GB of my 22GB VRAM. If you then start to switch between apps, this might be a reason for a crash. Try to reduce your graphics settings or to disable the cabin in the A380 and try to check your RAM&VRAM usage via ingame FPS tracker.

32GB RAM, around 18-20 was in use.

24GB VRAM, about 17GB in use.

This was via Task Manager.

Cabin was turned off using the click spot in the cockpit, although I didn’t see my VRAM drop when I clicked it

I think I need to stick with the house liveries for a while. 3rd party liveries are mostly an unknown at this point. Some are themselves 8K textures

Aircraft is amazing. Only few things are:
bit and bobs of the cabin (yes I saw the sign saying WIP so don’t think I don’t know)
The first officers flypad not turning on
And a glitch where if I am typed on the FMS and I go to exterior view none of my buttons work exept for ESC.

Overall a 4.9/5 star aircraft, ESPECIALLY for freeware.

With my 4070ti Super it eats up all 16GB of VRAM and i get stuttering when panning around…thats with 4k textures too.

Did one flight with the A380 on my laptop…
Not bad from my laptops behalf…
Really quite pleased and absolutely loved what these gius have achieved and all in their free time…
A true labour of love this baby is I bet…

I hope though… for those who like simrate… find away to beable to implement it in the plane for those with lower specs…
Even if they release a override option so i can do blasts at 4-8x until it gets unstable…
But for the airbus as a whole and for all developers… I really do hope that the limiting factor for that simrate limitation is discovered and solved… Especially those of of us who want to fly airbus and achive the long flights in a short amount of time like the Boeings…
But apart from that…
For a specs heavy plane… glad my laptop can cope and wow…
For a “pre release” its definitely a work of art and really shows what a community getting together can achieve…
Hope someone can do a dash 8 like this
