FlyingIron Spitfire 'V2'

G’day Pilots!

Today we are incredibly excited to be announcing the upcoming release of our Spitfire ‘V2’, which has been completely rebuilt from the ground up for MSFS 2024! This isn’t a small update or conversion of our 2020 Spitfire. We’ve started from scratch, taking full advantage of the amazing new developer tools and features available in MSFS 2024 to create the best Spitfire simulation we possibly can.

The package will include multiple variants of the Spitfire, including:

  • The iconic Mk.IX - complete with elliptical and clipped wing versions of the C and E wings, as well as the broad chord and standard chord rudder.
  • The Mk.VIII - featuring a retractable tail gear, shortened ailerons, an altered cockpit layout and the unique Standard Beam Approach (SBA).
  • The Mk.XVI - equipped with the lowback/“rear-view” fuselage, pilot friendly bubble canopy and gyro gunsight.
  • The Mk.IXc floatplane - an experimental variant created for maritime operations and equipped with floats and a modified tail.

We have gone to great lengths to capture every rivet, sound, and system with the greatest amount of detail possible. Our goal is to create the most realistic and immersive Spitfire on the market! Key features include:

  • Completely new 3D art featuring some of our finest work to date.
  • Full sound overhaul to create our most dynamic and immersive soundscape yet.
  • A full suite of Visual Effects - see the intense flames, smoke, pops and puffs of the Merlin engine.
  • A total flight model overhaul using 2024’s groundbreaking CFD system and flight model updates.
  • A complete Merlin engine model, with many custom features modelled in-house including supercharger behaviour, the Auto-Mixture Control Unit and more.
  • Complete modelling of the Fuel, Hydraulic and Pneumatic systems as they are in the real aircraft; every pump, line, reservoir, and actuator has been modelled from the Spitfire’s technical manuals.
  • Complete electrical system modelling, also made from the aircraft technical manuals
  • Brand-new FlyingIron EFB app with expansive features.
  • Standard Beam Approach navigation system: practice period-accurate instrument landings using Morse-code radio beacons.
  • Comprehensive startup management and animation system, powered by an extensive in-house WASM codebase and fully integrated with sound and VFX cues.
  • Fully functional gyro gunsight and guns (weapons not available for marketplace purchases).
  • The possibility to create custom flight loadouts with options for different Slipper Tanks, payloads and cockpit layouts; all fully integrated with the flight-model.

Stay tuned as we start to unveil some of the features in more detail over the next few weeks as we prepare for release. We hope you are as excited as we are to get this iconic bird into the skies of MSFS 2024!

Cheers!

I thought the float plane version was abandoned in WW2.

Why ? You can have weapons in MSFS24 Marketplace now.

Why’s it called a module? Just looks like a sim aircraft to me.

This is really great news. Your Spitfire has been a mainstay of my flying in MSFS and has worked well in 2024. So super excited to see the updated version. Thanks.

Ah, apologies. The weapons themselves will be visible, but you wouldn’t be able to fire them in the marketplace version. Hope that makes sense!

I hate to be ‘the one’ but everyone is thinking it, would there be a discount for existing 2020 Spitfire owners or is this a whole new package independent of any previous purchase?

DCS does this also.

“We hope you are as excited as we are to get this iconic bird into the skies of MSFS 2024!”

Yes, indeed!!!

One of the most iconic aircraft of all time (you have to forget the intended use).
and one of the best-simulated aircraft in Microsoft Flight Simulator.

DCS does what?

I fear you responded to me and not OP.

I saw the post about 5 minutes after Donny posted it and I was tempted to ask the same thing, plus is it for xbox, and will it work in career mode - but I would have followed it up with :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Then I saw the same post on facebook and one of the first questions was it is for playstation, so I was happy with that

It’s a whole new plane and FlyingIron are a small studio and their other planes haven’t exactly broken the bank - a discount would be nice but I’m happy to support them and just buy it.

I own the previous one. And I’ll go for this one also.

I was just wondering the other day if the Spitfire would get some love, so this is great news!

If the current Spit is anything to go by its a day 1 buy from me.. Any chance of doing as a later update late war Griffon Mk XIV with 5 bladed prop, this would be a dream plane?

Donny, I cannot wait, everything looks and sounds to be incredible! I love the looks of the all new visual models, inside and out, and all new textures, complete with more accurate/authentic colors and stenciling too, I see. This will be an absolute thrill to have. I also like seeing that we’ll be able to add bombs under the wings - ever since Peter Teichman has been operating his Spitfire IX PT879 with bombs under the wings, I absolutely love the look. I’ll be really interested in hearing what the new sounds are like as well. The fact that you’ll be including my absolute favorite Spitfire variant, the low-back Mk.XVI, is phenomenal!

Day one purchase for me, just like 2020 was, discount or no…. Over 1000 hours of joy in the previous version

Calls them modules.

Such great news, I’d built my own version of the hubble telescope looking for signs of it, to no avail. The 2020 version was one of my earliest purchases and has been in my top 10 aircraft list since then.

Calls what modules? You mean an aircraft is now a module? Who came up with that.

A module is a separate part that joins with other parts to make a complete whole thing. How is a sim aircraft a module to a user. Sounds very much like needless dev jargon that’s somehow creeping into the storefront and marketing materials.
