Flyinside B206 B3 Discussion

I have no issues with PIO, as you can see in my video above. Precise hovering is no problem either. It feels very responsive to me. Give it some time. I use the default sensitivity of 80 for the realistic flight model.

Given that FlyInside’s RotorRick actually owns a Jet Ranger 206B III and was heavily involved in the development of the flight model, I’m confident that it’s very close to the real thing.

Me too. I’m flying virtual helicopters since the Gunship 2000 and Jane’s Longbow days, including the Dodosim 206 in FSX, and the Huey, the Ka-50 and the Apache in DCS World.

That’s the problem. We do have some experience in simulated Heli flying. I’m not an expert by any means, but I do feel right from the start, when something is off. That was my initial feeling with the B407 in MSFS, and unfortunately with the Flyinside Bell 206 as well. I enjoy adapting to a new Heli and a new flight model. Right now, I spend very much time in the Lama by Philip Ubben in XP12. One of the best heli sims I’ve flown so far. And that one is extremely responsive. So I was prepared to have a somewhat less crisp control authority with the two blade rotor of the B206. But that Heli really makes me feel as if I would have never flown a heli in a desktop sim. Super hard to control doesn’t necessarily mean realistc… I will find more time after Xmas to investigate further. But my initial thoughts of the Flyinside Bell 206 are not that enthusiastic!

I hear ya, but that’s just it: It doesn’t feel hard at all, despite the Realistic setting. I even double-checked at some point if I accidently set the flight model to Easy. I hadn’t. Maybe there is something off with your settings?

I can’t speak to the X-Plane helis, I’ve never used that sim. But it doesn’t feel much different from the Dodosim 206 to me.

Yes, thx for confirmation. There must be something off then. This feels completely different to the Dodosim.
The B206 by Cowansim just got released. I loved that Heli in XP11, so I’m gonna get that one as well after Xmas. Looking forward to comparing it to the Flyinside.
Have a merry Xmas! (and try out XP with the Lama and Frank Dainese’s mountain scenery. It’s a heli nerds paradise!).

I might do a little flight routine video with a few maneuvers, take offs and landings. Especially hard stops and hovering to give a sense how it works for me. Might only happen after X-Mas, though.

You too! Happy holidays, hopefully with some time for flying.

I got around to doing a quick video.

Just a short flight routine demonstrating that there are no issues whatsoever with taking off, maneuvering, hovering and quick turning the FlyInside 206 on the Realistic flight model, and that the heli moves around in a believable and physically sound manner.

Please ignore the rotor animation issues in the external view. That’s an issue with replaying the flight with Flight Control Replay v5. Also please kindly ignore me chopping off a little bit of a treetop there. That was misjudgement on my part due to the lack of depth perception (no VR!).

00:00 Flight from the cockpit
04:35 Flight from the external view (replay)

And for comparison an old Dodosim 206 video that I made:

Thanks for posting the video of you flying this. That helped me a ton because I could watch the flight controls react to what I would expect for inputs in a given situation. It looks like it flies very believably for a 206. Also, you are really good at demonstrating the things we need to see. You obviously have been at the helo sim thing for a while!

Excellent flying!
I can almost do the things you’re showing but a bit slower and a bit more wobbly, but that is a testament to my lack of skills rather than the FM

The only thing I REALLY struggle with is picking it up… increasing sensitivity to 100 helped somewhat but i think my lowish FPS might be a problem also
I don’t think the FM is bad at all, don’t know where that comes from

Are you putting the flight controls (cyclic and pedals) into an anticipatory position before raising the skids off the ground? That is key for a straight take off. When you take off with the controls in neutral first and then start to counteract it’s already too late.

Just remember where your cyclic and pedals were when you set it down straight and then put the controls in the same position before take-off. That should do the trick. Oh, and don’t forget to take the wind speed and direction into account. Add a little more or reduce the initial control input accordingly before take-off.

Just like a fixed wing aircraft a helicopter takes off and lands best with the nose pointed into the wind. The tail and the stabilizers that allow for straight flight at cruise speed are great weathervanes.

Can this chopper be used to sling-load external cargo IRL? If so, is this something that we might get in the future?

Oh it can sling load

Yes, Cargo hook provisions are already in the model itself. We will be adding the hook in a later update. Also will include bubble windows so you can watch the load.

That will be AWESOME!

Btw, the other, recently released B206 for MSFS handles super nicely in my sim. So, there´s defintely something off with the Flyinside on my system.

Anyway to get the Nav system to turn on, without the Working title 430/530 update program? It conflicts with my PMS GTN 750.

I watched videos of the Flyinside 206 helicopter. My question is, why didn’t the developer add a glass effect to the instruments? The visuals are very poor. It disappoints me. Is the glass effect planned?

Thanks

Just bought the 206 today and had an hour or two mainly pottering round the North Sea landing on oil rigs, with a couple of trips to Manhattan and Melbourne. I’m very happy with it - flies really nicely and demands that constant attention to keep it on the right path. It feels like it captures just the right amount of squirrely handling that makes a helicopter such a captivating experience to fly. Great job to the Flyinside team, one very satisfied customer, highly recommended.

This is your opinion, everyone is entitled to an opinion however expressing opinions can suggest an indication of bias for or against a product so care should be taken when doing so.

As an opinion I’m very happy with the Flyinside version of the Bell 206 and find it handles well when matched to my particular set of controls and computing environment and my (limited) real world experience.

I don’t have the Cowan product which I am sure based on track record from other sims should also be a quality product.

The fact that two commercial versions of the same helicopter are released at about the same time is interesting, I hope they both do well and that people do not try and negatively influence one over the other for no real reason.

Anyway to fix the James Bond G-BAKS livery? The window frames, should just be offwhite as the interior, instead of bright red. its distracting in VR, along with not accurate to the Movie…

But love the outside!!!
