Flysimware Cessna 414A

@chk3000

As I mentioned above, I’ve flown several flights today with v1.4.2 (KPVU - KSLC, KASE - KTEX, KTEX - KBCE) and the altitude capture is working flawlessly (with the TDS GTN750 livery).

That being said, the very first flight after I installed 1.4.2 the AP was completely wonky. Seemed like nothing was working correctly, so I exited out of the sim and just re-launched it again.

Since then I’ve flown the above mentioned legs and it’s been working great (RNAV and ILS approaches). I’ve been pretty happy with 1.4.2 so far!

If you haven’t already tried it, maybe exit out of the sim and relaunch and try another flight just to see. Doesn’t make a lot of sense, but… this sim… you know…

Maybe it’s a GNS530 problem, no altitude capture with that one…

Yea, that’s too bad. If I get a chance a little later I’ll give the 530 a try to see what I see.

Yeah there are workarounds I guess but its strange that no one has ever noted it. You would think that spawning into the cockpit looking at the runway and the wheels would rate a mention.

And I know people like to be able to read the gauges but having your eye up against the altimeter gauge with the default view isn’t the answer lol.

Cool…I’ll take a look. Thanks.

Just retested now, works fine with 1.4.2, but I use the 605 autopilot together with the PNS GTN750. That prolly makes the difference…

Yep. Finally got a chance to try out the GNS530 and just like you said, it blows right past the armed altitude and keeps on climbing.

I did not find this plane in game marketplace. Is there a plan the dev will release 414 on it?

I think that is beyond my skills. I am left to hope Flysimware will consider one day to tweak those sounds.
Thank you for the reply.

Developer is flat out with updates- I reckon this plane will become a classic. Have been holding out for something with a bit of oomph and which I could use the GTN530 in, as none of the base game planes support it, and the 750 also looks like a great secondary option. This will be my go to plane for a full-on Australian tour.

Is the display dim on 530 in new update? I have not heard if they fixed that…

You know, I didn’t notice, but honestly, I never fly the 414 with the GNS530 (this was my first flight with it, just to test the altitude capture problem) so I don’t really have anything to compare it to.

I just flew the C414 with the 530GNS mod. 530 works fine with mod for me, but, yes, it seemed dim, but, I noticed this afternoon the author added an autodimming feature for night flight either just now (I’m using v .49) or recently, and I was flying at dusk and needed panel lights, so maybe it was dim on purpose.

As a side note, I was on final to KLCI, and the sim just crashed with a memory overwrite warning. I noticed when I started the sim, I was having some mouse interaction issues, so maybe there was already something going on? The mouse would disappear when on top of the sim as it was starting. When I restarted after the crash, all is well with the mouse. I was flying in VR with an HP Reverb G2 and 3080TI, latest nVidia drivers.

I found it super hard to trim for level flight, but, I might have had the power settings wrong, 3KMP/2.5KRPM… I didn’t review before I flew  :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: and this was my first flight in the plane.

Super nice modeling, wow, totally impressed. I hope the CTD’s aren’t common with the plane, but, I’m very impressed and happy I purchased it. Is the weather radar going to work eventually? Not a huge deal to me, I don’t fly twins very often, but, love this model.

I really enjoy this plane its fun to fly, it is becoming one of my top five. I use the TDS GTNXI, or the GTN750.

Its also a pleasure to Fly without AP.

However I am bit confused on the Garmin GFC600, for example I understand the Altittude hold switch but whats the LVL button “commands wings level and commands pitch attitude necessary to establish a vertical speed of 0 fpm”. This just sounds the same as ROLL Hold .

Apologies if this sounds like such a obvious question?

ROLL keeps it at whatever bank angle you currently have it at. LVL levels off the aircraft. LVL is supposed to help with spacial disorientation. If you’re hand flying and suddenly go into IMC conditions where you can’t tell which way is up or down, you can hit LVL.

Thank you so much, that makes sense. Hope your eyes did not roll too far back

Ok have had this plane for a few days now and after a few initial annoyances I’m finding myself more and more impressed with it.

First of all if you do decide to try it you will probably notice the default camera views to be a little messed up. Not sure if this is a fault with the latest version or if its always been there but I spawned into the plane the first time staring at the undercarriage and the runway…so essentially underneath the ac. Adjusting the view with the arrow keys put me with my face up against the altimeter gauge lol. So expect to spend 10 minutes or so working out some custom camera views before you are able to fly it.

I have heard a few people complain about the engine sounds but they seemed ok to me. And this is coming from someone who was annoyed big time by the Twin Otter engine sounds. Although for some reason the environmental sound volume is turned right up so it sometimes sounds like you’ve left the window open when cruising at altitude. I think you can adjust this within the sim though.

Also I can’t be 100% sure but I dont think the EGT is working. Someone with more experience than me may be able to confirm this…but the needle on the gauge didn’t seem to move no matter what mixture level I set at altitude. Could be wrong though because as I said I’m not an expert in these things.

People have also mentioned problems with the AP maintaining a GS but this seemed to work perfectly for me with the GTN 750. It’s also a lot of fun to fly by hand.

All in all this is a really good GA aircraft. I would even suggest it has the potential to become one of the best. There’s just something really authentic feeling about sitting in the cockpit of this one (the modelling of the cockpit is outstanding). And at night with all the instrument lights on it is a thing of beauty. At $39 for the BETA its pretty good value imo. Recommended.

Automixture is turned on by default for this aircraft due to the sim not modeled for turbocharged engines. See the note at the beginning of the manual.

Ok…thanks for the clarification.

For me, GS initially works fine but as soon as I sliw down below maybe 110KIAS, the AP drops the nose further and steers me slowly into the ground.
Happened to me with VS mode as well as soon as I slowed down.

TDS NXi here.
