[FlyTampa] - EHAM Amsterdam Schiphol Airport

Interesting scenery. It feels so wide and finally flat  no uphills and bumps

I think I want to hear some more impressions before I buy it.

Welcome to the Netherlands

Well yeah, agree. The release came out of nowhere. For me, i rather have it sooner than waiting for some more screenshots, i had no doubts about this one. There isnt an alternative anyway, and probably never will be. So it was a no-brainer anyway.

Some screenshots are in my post above + in the review link. Im sure you will se more on YT and everywhere in the next hours/days.

To be honest, I don’t think it is outstanding. I bought it and don’t regret it at all, but basic stuff like localizer antennes, glide path masts, buildings, fences etc are missing in quite some places.

I work at SPL, so I know the area quite well. That said, it is an improvement over what we have now. I’ll probably start modding to add missing elements myself.

See e.g. this one for localiser 06 where you can even see the image from the satellite:

did you uninstall Asobo EHAM in content manager?

Good one, will check!

EDIT: Does not make a difference for those items. So still missing essential ground stuff.

gotta agree with your sentiment. I’ve been waiting for this airport just like everyone else, and am so excited that it’s released.

I do think that they did a fantastic job though. This airport is humongous and it’s understandable why it took so long. When comparing it to one of their other sceneries, like LGAV, this airport feels considerably less ā€œalive.ā€ That’s not necessarily bad, just not what I was expecting.

It is beautifully crafted, although I think that some of the proportions are slightly off. Like at the walk-in-gates. Seeing the passengers walk past the orange cones to the stairs up to the terminal, the orange cones are huge compared to the passengers, as are the stairs upwards to the terminal. I’ll take a picture to show what I’m talking about.

Quite interesting, how different peoples experience different things. I find LGAV pretty dull and empty, while EHAM in my opinion is much more interesting, with many more small details.

First impressions:

  1. It’s a very welcome appearance of a long awaited popular mega hub.

  2. As a mega hub, you can see that some compromise has been made. There is a lot of detail and high resolution in some areas, though a bit sparse and less detailed in the less frequented areas.

  3. I find it a little strange that there are no moving vehicles airside, but there are landside.

  4. At TLOD 200 and limited AI aircraft, it’s flyable on my PC (5800X3D and RTX 3080Ti). GPUs with < 12 GB VRAM may struggle without reducing the texture quality in MSFS settings page.

  5. Personally, I find FT EHAM doesn’t look as nice as iniBuilds’ KJFK (especially some of the building textures at night), however, it performs far, far better. OTOH, I prefer FT’s texturing to AmSim/BMotW’s CYUL. (YMMV).

Stairs at knee height. These PAX will have an excuse to skip leg day haha.

lol, can’t make everyone happy i guess. I just found that having the people walking around in the termianal blew my mind the first time I saw them at LGAV. There were also a few more moving ground vehicles.

EBBR is a perfect example of an airport that feels full of life.

Hmm, might be worth to report this on the FlyTampa Forums. Quite surprised that they missed this, as there was surprisingly many details for such a big hub. But yeah, mistakes can be made, especially on a ā€œrushedā€ sunday evening release. LOL

But atleast FT is known to update their sceneries for a looong time, not like other devs who rush from release to release and never support older products.

Are they known for this? There have been very few, if any, significant updates for FT EKCH, which feels rather dated and has several problems. This is why I’m eagerly waiting for some other dev to give it a shot.

For me it’s the (almost) perfect compromise between detail and performance. I’ve waited for so long, but the result is good imho. Both day and night. Some important things still missing, but they’ve already been mentioned in this thread. Overall pretty happy, and i was a bit surprised by the low price, relative to other FT airports. I already have FT LGAV, KBOS and KLAS, and EHAM is a long awaited and welcome addition.

Yes, for instance:

KBOS recently updated to v1.6.0 to include the new ā€˜lipstick terminal’ modernisation of Terminal E.

KLAS is on v1.9.0 with updates for the Strip, night lighting, gate assignments.

LGAV is on v1.6.0 with an added new maintenance hangar, improved parking and jetway functionality, improved lighting and lower VRAM usage.

Perhaps this will cheer you somewhat:

Well, here we go:

After some more consideration and stream watching today, I convinced myself that there is no better review than my own experience.
Downloaded (took about half an hour) and installed it, and after a quick peek around at the airport with the dronecam, I took my KLM PMDG 737 for a spin from EGLL to Amsterdam.
All live players on, real time and weather (so basically a nightflight).
Oooh boy, It looked beautiful on aproach, landing and taxiing and the best part, it didnt have a noticeable impact on the FPS.
After 10 min of taxiing from the 18R (without any weird speedbumbs and copy pasted second tower) i arrived at my gate, right in front of the so long missed bird on the panorama deck.

So far only a couple of remarks:

  1. I hope they tune the nightlights on the aprons a bit. Nothing serious, but a bit of extra light would be nice
  2. I wished they spent a bit more TLC on the outside, instead of the inside of some of the buildings
  3. I was pleasantly surprised by the (lack) of impact it had on the FPS
  4. This edition of EHAM i expected earlier from Asobo with the initial release
  5. a lot of frustration has been wiped away (buildings in impossible places, speedbumbs in taxiways that are capable of launching a space-shuttle, lack of nicely modelled tunnels and roads etc etc.)

Conclusion:
If you are not certain if you want to buy this airport, i can tell you now from my own experience:
I was very sceptical, especially after the initial ā€œtrailerā€ and pictures. I still stand by my earlier made comments and remarks…But… beside some (small) shortcomings, its well worth it.
Especially if you fly to Schiphol very often like I do and also dont have a super high end PC or graphics card.

Well done FT, and I hope there will be some small updates in the near future.

Well, some observations after my first test sessions:

  • It is mentioned in the feature list by FlyTampa but there is no (custom) animated apron traffic included. Or at least I can’t find it.

  • The airport feels a bit dead because there is not a single person around the airport or terminal.

  • Some textures are lower quality, or simply ported from an older version.

  • I don’t like the clean white lined road/highway textures around the airport, they look a bit cheap FS9-style.

  • The water/canals around EHAM looks strange/jagged from a distance, especially during the approach of runway 18C and 18R.

  • Performance is outstanding.

Not bad at all but there is definitely room for improvement.

EKCH is old, was their first port to MSFS. Understandable they absndoned it. There a new one in the works by SimNord.

Newer FT sceneries get updates, like KLAS soon with the sphere.

Cant wait for the sphere, wondering how it would look inside MSFS.
