I’m currently using my trusty old MS Sidewinder FF2 and the plugin “XPForce” to get FFB to work. Overall, it works alright, specially the trim function, which I could not immerse myself without. Still, it would be great if there was native support from MSFS for FFB devices. Well aware, that at this point that might be wishful thinking, with no affordable consumer hardware currently available. Still at least I’ve increased the vote counter by 1
same setup here. i enjoy the vibrations when gear and flaps are down.
however i notice these huge jerks in controls when taxiing on the ground. have you noticed that? a light rumbling would be ideal but i haven’t figured out how to achieve that yet
I have a MS Sidewinder FFB 2 but don’t understand this trim function.
Please explain. Thanks…
That is most likely the “Wheel Shimmy” effect. I have this close to zero, as it seems exaggerated to me, and should only effect certain planes depending on their nose wheel suspension geometry, which I would know nothing about in any case
You can adjust it under the “effects” tab.
If this does not work, it can also be the “gear bumpiness” slider.
In RL, if you move the Yoke out of center for the plane to maintain a certain attitude in a specific flight situation (e.g landing), you move the control surface of the plane (e.g the elevator) and the elevator must remain in this specific position for the plane to hold its attitude. To relief the pilot of the strain to work against the increased drag created by the deflected elevator, there is a small tab on the back of the elevator (on most designs anyway), which is the trim function, and creates a counter force, by it being deflecting in the opposite direction. So with the help of this tab, the forces of the air on the elevator are equalized, and the elevator and yoke remain in position by themself. However, the yoke is not centered in such case, but remains in the very position which reflects the current deflection of the elevator. E.g on landing, you might have the yoke quite a bit back, while it will be noticeably front of center if you want the plane to maintain level flight at full power and high speeds. The trim function of the plugin does imitate this behavior, and it works reasonably well.
Yes, and let’s emphasize the words “of the plugin” because this behavior is not simulated in the sim itself. When the plane is being trimmed, the elevator, as a parameter or a variable, which can be read by using SimConnect, is not changed at all (stays at 0 position if the yoke is not deflected from its center position). Instead, the current trim position (as a parameter value) is added to the elevator position. The trim value works as the second elevator surface, but not “something” that moves the regular elevator.
Since the yoke image in the sim is “coupled” in the code with the elevator position, the yoke is not moving when one is trimming the plane. Neither it is moving when the autopilot is engaged for the pitch axis - the whole work is done by moving the trim, not the elevator.
This is why force feedback effects have to be generated by plugins. There are no FF parameters in the sim itself.
I was about to smash my X56 into a million pieces with my foot after the constant ghost presses.
I turned off LEDs, I tried USB 2, 3, Powered hub and even direct converter to mobo header. NOTHING stopped it!
Somehow magically i tried the front case USB and it has stopped, but what hasn’t gotten any better is how stiff the throttle is, sliding the entire thing up and down the desk because even with the knob wound right down to loosest setting it’s horrible.
Never ever ever buy an X56.
Shame because the amount of buttons and hats is remarkable…
I can however vouch for VKB pedals, wow.. i’ve had a few and these take the cake (Be warned there is no toe braking).
On topic!
I have an old Force Feedback Pro the chunky one not the #2, nobody seems to speak about if this works heck it isn’t even USB can we even get a converter?
If MSFS ever supports FFB i would certainly bust it out…
I bought a converter on ebay from a guy in Italy who makes them. I don’t see the listing any more, but I could email him and see if he still has any available
Now that Asobo have altered how forces affect surfaces of the plane, they must be calculating the forces on the individual control surfaces. So if they were to publish those forces in some API, a FFB stick or yoke could use the data.
I tried XP Force but it does not give the same feel as FS Force (D Russel), so I voted for this wishlist.
i tried XPForce as well but after a while it always messed up my FFB joystick (like changing the center of forces) so I stopped using it.
How is FSForce different?
It’s a matter of feel, sorry it’s difficult to explain… Anyway the author of FS Force announced that he would not develop FS Force for MSFS.
For me XPForce only does that when I have realistic trim enabled, which is working as expected.
what do you mean working as expected?
With the alternate trim enable the centring force for the stick moves depending on trim setting. As you would expect with a aircraft.
For my XPForce disabling the alternate trim removes any movement of the centring force with trim. You do still get a forward stick/yoke movement at low speed and stationary as the elevators start to droop, this also is what happens in a real aircraft.
Hi all. I’m a recent Brunner owner, and feel a little disappointed that I can’t “feel” the aircraft through the yoke or pedals.
I also have a motion rig though, and was thinking, why can’t the data the rig uses be modified for FFB usage ? With some filters I would think it would give at least some real world feeling. At least until ( may never happen anyway) we get actual FFB data.
For those familiar with FlyPT Mover, many filters are already available and surely enough for this application.
Example- I can currently feel turbulence in heave. What if the yoke used the heave data to move pitch? Mixing airspeed as well could be used to adjust the amount of force.
I’m sure I’m over simplifying, as I’m not a developer, but has anyone looked at this ?
Just a note that this issue is still not fixed and seems to be a non-priority for Asobo, anyone interested in FFB that has not voted yet should do so.
Do you have a direct link?
