Do you have XMP (sometimes called EXPO) turned on in the system BIOS?
" XMP and EXPO are memory profile standards to boost RAM speeds for higher performance."
Typically, XMP is for Intel motherboards, while EXPO is for AMD motherboards.
Oddly, I have an AMD motherboard and in my BIOS it’s called XMP.
There are two XMP profile options: XMP-1, and XMP-2
The difference is, XMP-1 uses a mixture of profile info from the motherboard, and also from the RAM itself. Some RAM has a more complete XMP profile stored on it, and it that case you can use XMP-2. You can safely use XMP-1 whether your RAM supports XMP-2 or not.
Without XMP (or EXPO) active your RAM is running at the default of 2133 MHz.
Note that DRAM frequency is actually 1/2 its rated speed. So, depending on where you get your information, DDR4-3200 (running at 2033MHz without XMP) might actually be reported as 1066MHz.
I have DDR4-3600 using XMP-2 to set it at 3600MHz and CPU-Z reports my RAM running at 1800MHz.
Doing a clean reinstall of the sim. Looks like it will take the rest of the day and some of tomorrow.
I will get back to you guys sometime tomorrow when the sim is running again.
Once again, I appreciate all the help I am getting.
Time for a scotch and soda. Cheers for today.
Hey guys, I have a 4070 TI OC and i5 14600kf, and I’m getting 26fps with DlSS and FG on ultra? Look at anyone else’s results and it’s up in the 100s. My GPU is also only 10% UTL which is concerning. Any advice or info from people with similar issues would be appreciated, thank you
It’s important to note that different aircraft in different locations will have different results. A simple GA plane flying over the Sahara can give you 100+ FPS on a capable system. That same system running a more complex plane with 8K textures over NYC @ 2000 AGL might result in 35 FPS.
As for your CPU load, that’s perfectly normal. Open ‘Resource Monitor’ (Task Manager → Performance - > three dots in upper right corner → Resource Monitor) and look at your individual CPU cores. You’ll see many (or all) of them being used, but the sim only uses 1 or 2 for the core code.
At least, that’s my understanding…someone correct me if I’m wrong.
Hopefully FS2024 will improve multi-core process allocation.
The Dev Mode FPS tool doesn’t reflect the frames gained from frame generation. You can use the Nvidia performance overlay (or other tools) to see the actual differences - if you have it activated, hit Alt+R to bring up the Nvidia metrics. With DLSS and FG on you’ll see it’s double what Dev Mode shows.
I think you activate nVidia overlay in GeForce Experience.
I see that you say that your RAM is now at full speed so hopefully that is now at 3200 MHz
You said that you are Main thread limited. Try reducing ROAD VEHICLES to 5 (I think the ROAD VEHICLES setting has a big impact on CPU)
You say your Community Folder (CF) is loaded but current. If you have something like Addon Linker maybe just try the sim with NOTHING in the CF. This would mean that you would have to quit the sim, make sure your CF is empty using Addon Linker and then restart the sim. If you haven’t got Addon Linker then quit the sim, RENAME THE CF (DON’T DELETE IT!!) and then restart the sim. If you later RENAME the CF to what it originally was then it should then start up again with all your original addons
You sim at 1080p. Is this your monitor default setting or is it 1440p or even 4k? Ideally you should be siming at default monitor res
How much space is left on your 1TB SSD. If space is tight then this can lead to a performance loss too
how have you set windows page file? Is it at default i.e. ‘Let Windows Decide’ (or whatever it’s now called)?
I would shut Chrome down whilst you are in the sim unless (for some reason) you really need it. Chrome can hog quite a lot of resources especially if you have a lot of tabs open
Just a few more comments for what they are worth.
Very happy for anybody to ‘pipe up’ though if they disagree with me. My only intention here is to help and hopefully not give any misleading info
I see many different opinions about the page file. Some say if you have 64GB (as I do) then the page file should be disabled, as Windows 11 doesn’t need it. I’d guess that 32GB is also more than enough to justify disabling it.
But I remember in the way back times that Windows always needed a page file - even if it’s very small - for things like crash dump logs. Without that file things could get wonky.
I currently have mine manually set (C: only - my fastest NVmE) to:
Intital Size: 9078 MB (what Windows recommended)
Max Size: 9985 MB (Initial + 10%, another holdover from the way back days…)
I’m not an expert by any means but for what it’s worth I think it depends on how much RAM you have and what applications you use your PC for.
I have 48 gb RAM (you have 64 gb) and so arguably for FS20 we could maybe set the page file to below Windows Recommended Settings or even disable it perhaps providing we are not running the sim in conjuction with any other application. I think the maximum RAM usage I have ever had in the sim is about 35% (although tbh I think that some RAM is also reserved in addition for other things too).
I also use my PC though for video editing and other RAM intensive applications and so it is for that reason mainly that I wouldn’t disable Windows Page File or set it really low.
For ease of life (rightly or wrongly) I now just put it at Windows Recommended Settings and thankfully so far I have not yet seen any obvious downsides
Yes - don’t touch it and let Windows manage it unless you absolutely know what you are doing and move it to RAM. Moving it to RAM sounds great but then you have to recreate it somehow when rebooting as it gets destroyed on shutdown. I personally don’t recommend the pagefile in a RAM disk but some swear by it.
I would never move the page file to a RAM disk. There would be no point.
My question is, with 64GB of RAM, and the sim being the main consumer of RAM (other than things like LNM, SPAD, Spacedesk, and a few other programs) do I even need a page file? Its purpose is to emulate RAM on a physical disk. I’d rather get that disk space back if I can.
When I let Windows manage it, the page file was 77GB, which was 15% of my C: drive.
I’ve got 32 Gig of memory and I’ve never touched my pagefile settings. I just looked at it and my page file is 3.5 Gig. The 77 Gig on your PC seems excessive.
You could always just limit the pagefile to 7 Gig and see if that impacts anything (I doubt if it would).
