FPS performance - VRAM bug?

You probably want to use the in-sim dev mode fps counter instead for a more accurate read on what the sim is pulling.

If your percentages were true it would mean 12Gb (Vram) is being used just on the main menu alone and 19Gb while flying- both would signify an even bigger problem/leak than most of us have. @SausageCopter

I’m only able to get playable framerates (35-45) by changing everything to low or off and selecting smaller aircraft (Icon A5 or the Sky Rascal for example). VRAM usage hovers around 7.25GB in that configuration. If I pick say an A320 or the Beluga or turn settings up to medium it rockets to 12+GB and my framerate plummets to around 10.

Specs:
i5 12400F
32GB DDR5
Arc A750LE 8GB

Same setup ran 2020 on high without problems

I have a 4090 and the vram consistently maxes out at 21.9 out of 24gb. Mermory sits at 22 out of 32gb. This is in VR and it just becomes a stuttery mess.

Same here. 4070 Ti 7800X3D 32GB ram

I have a rtx 4070 ti super, 32 gb ram and 7800x3d. I am using 9 gb of vram and about 20 of ram. This is at aerosoft Brussels in the fenix so something very strange is going on to see such difference results.

On what settings? Also I think they nerfed the LOD’s the other day when they announced there would be two patches coming. My terrain is definitely not loading full textures thus I’ve seen a vram drop in areas.

100 tlod, 100 oled, most other high.

I’ve compromised, TAA for GA planes DLSS Quality for airliners. It can still result in 1 frame per hour problems at major airports though.

Also, the biggest VRAM sucker (for me at least) is texture resolution. Anything above medium and my 3070 starts cooking. Pre-cache set to Low is a good one for folks to try also.

Can anyone confirm if this is the same bug I am getting. I am having this problem using any of the “hand crafted” airports such as LOWS, LOWI, EDDM etc. The ones that come with the sim and not addons.

My community folders is empty. RTX2080.

I’m happily getting 30-60 fps at all other times in the sim, with a mixture of Ultra/High/Medium settings. Terrain LOD 200, all other sliders at 100. Everything is perfectly smooth and lovely, until I load in at a custom hand crafted airport. Then I get anything from single digits to about 15 fps. Please don’t delete this post, I am trying to establish if this is the same bug, if it is, please consider it a bug report contributing to this thread. Thank you.

Sounds like it. Have you tried looking in the devmode fps counter, specifically GPU Mem at the bottom? 1st number is what the sim is using, 2nd number is how much is available. A little bit will be taken by the OS, but should be 7 and something for your GPU. That should help confirm this for you.

I’m in the same boat. Can be happily using the sim at 60-70fps then it will grind down to 10fps. Sometimes it comes back, sometimes it doesn’t and I have to reboot. Super annoying way to end a 7 hour flight today when I couldn’t control the aircraft to land at 10fps

Thanks, yes, just looked, it’s using 7.8/7.0!

So it appears I am having this bug.

I just had another incident of the same—this time with the A321 at KPHL. Changing dynamic settings did nothing; changing the TLOD to 100 delayed the issue, but it still occurred that I ended up using 14.84 out of 14.15GB of VRAM. The problem seems to be that the simulator has no process to eliminate VRAM usage. It keeps climbing uncontrollably.

I am going back to MSFS 2020 until they patch this.

I know this isn’t supposed to be a discussion but it’s hard to contribute to the bug report unless I know the following: Is it the aircraft causing this or is it the airports? Please don’t delete this message - I am trying to rule things out and it’s hard to do that without discussing things.

For me I can load the A320 at a default airport and it’s fine. I load it at LOWS or another hand crafted airport, and after about 5 minutes my frame rates have deteriorated to single figures. However I can load the 152 at LOWS and it seems ok. So I am confused as to if it is supposed to be the complex airports or the complex aircraft that are the issue?

Airliners use more VRAM so it makes sense that you have this issue happening with more occurence on airliners. The same is true if you go to a less demanding area with an airliner. For example, the problem is delayed if I go to MDST with an airliner. The moment I am at KJFK with the same airliner it happens sooner.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• YES

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• Loading an airliner at a handcrafted airport - e.g. LOWS, LOWI, EDDM causes a gradual reduction in FPS until my VRAM is full and FPS is down to almost single figures, rendering the sim unusable.

If relevant, provide additional screenshots/video:

Similar but my vram is not shooting up but using the Fenix A320, cant fly it as everytime i pop out navigraph or the msfs EFB the bloody sim freezes and nothing works to unfreeze so have to cttrl-alt-del to stop the process
So frustrating, all i can do is the career mode so I have gone back and do my Vatsim flights on Msfs2020 as 2024 is unplayable for me

I only fly the fenix/fbw and pmdg aicraft and i fly exclusively on vatsim so its a no brainer to go back to 2020

Also i have a high end rig but i just get stutters and terrible fps in msfs 2024 even though my vram is about 9gb, i have a rtx 4080 14700kf and 64gb ram

I get 35 fps in 2024 , in msfs 2020 i get about 100+ fps and its butter smooth

So frustrating !!!

Assuming you have a 16Gb card… I actually just swapped my 12Gb card for a 16Gb card today.

The sim immediately wanted to use more VRAM than what it was using with the old card- I used the same specific gate at the same airport using the same gfx settings to compare (in the Fenix A321).

I will say it’s not going over my cap nearly as much, however still signifies a problem.

The high vram usage is also triggering the frame generation glitches. Another issue that needs fixing.

Please Asobo fix this. It has become an endless tweaking session for the last days and little actual flying.

Loaded up at EGLL in my TBM, and it’s pretty unflyable. Between 20-25 fps even with frame gen on, and GPU is maxed out at 100% even though it’s only 45C, which isn’t normal. Normally when the GPU gets maxed out its about between 60-70C.

My hardware is a 7900x cpu, 64GB RAM, and a 4070ti. My graphics settings are on the high end preset. MSFS 2024 using 42GB of RAM on it’s own seems high? It also doesn’t appear that my VRAM is maxed out.

I also feel the pain of endless tweaking and very little flying.
