Well RTX 4070 mobile, guess that’s the difference. It isn’t really capable of running 4K without trickery. I’m flying a lot (in real life) so being away from home a lot, a desktop wouldn’t make much sense. At home I hook it up to a 4K monitor, I’m happy with DLSS performance and 30 fps, 60 with FG.
Thanks for the suggestion, but the flickering icons on the world map that FSR FG gives me, are even worse than the 30 FPS
. I guess I’ll have to live with the 30 FPS for now ![]()
30 FPS in menus is an issue why? I wouldn’t care if I had 5 FPS in menus because, well they’re menus.
Sure, they’re just menus, but 30 FPS just feels awful. Once you’re used to 60+ FPS, 30 feels choppy, sluggish, and frankly outdated ![]()
20 fps after today 3 hours of flight great job the new sim is amazing
SU3 beta 1.5.19 Win11 Steam
GMXX to LXGB in the Saab 340
Low VRAM warning on approach and after landing LXGB with 7900XTX 24GB VRAM… including the extreme FPS dropping/slideshow. Nearly crashed the landing due to that.
I switched from XSX to rather high spec PC because of awful graphics on console.
But even with 7800X3D, 4080 Super, 64gb RAM 6000Mhz I’m not able to achieve stable performance to enjoy the sim.
I lowered res from for 4K (even with lower rendering) to 1440p with TAA (100% scaling), most settings droped to high. With frame gen on I’m able to achieve 70 - 100 fps during crusing, but 14 fps during landing even on default Asobo airport is unplayable. I reinstalled game, cleared all the folder, shaders and so on, deleted all add-ons. Nothing seems to have meaningful impact on performance. Situation is even worse with performance hitters like Ini A350, Fbw A380.
I know that this is a known issue. This is just my cry resulting from frustration. What is the solution ? To buy 5090? Because right now, every flight is a struggle.
If you’re still getting this kind of performance with SU3 then you need to look into issues with your hardware. I have a 9800X3D and 7900 GRE, so a bit of an upgrade over your CPU but a downgrade over your GPU, and on SU3 I can maintain 60fps with FG on a slightly-modified Ultra preset (terrain precaching up to Ultra, texture resolution down to Medium) with TAA at 100% render scale of my 3440x1440 resolution, FSLTL, GSX, and handcrafted Gaya airports with high-demand airliners.
So either the main difference is SU3 or you may genuinely have some issues with your system.
I also have a 4080 Super. You are right there is a known issue with FPS drops and stuttering when landing at airports. People with 5090’s are experiencing the same.
The only solution is to wait for Asobo to fix it. In the meantime, you could try limiting your FPS. I limit mine to 30 FPS in the sim using Vsync which is half of my TV’s 60hz refresh rate.
Limiting the max frames the sim generates to 30 and using 2x FG really does make a difference. Realize it is a no go for VR.
I don’t use FG or VR. ![]()
9800X3D 64GB DDR5 4070S
I use Intel PResentMon and System Informer to track resource usage.
I have FG on with FrameRate set to 30 in the sim and I see a very smooth 55 to 60 FPS almost everywhere…except when I don’t. And the circumstances of single digit FPS are odd and inconsistent.
Loaded an airport I use on regular basis with other addons I always use. GA plane and clear weather.
Cold and Dark on the GA Ramp I was seeing 3 to 4 FPS and it never improved. Finally was able to takeoff at 8 FPS and continued to fly with the FPS never exceeding 9. Landed at same airport and FPS dropped to less than 2.
Shutdown sim (Steam) and restarted sim with NO changes.
Same plane, same airport, same weather, same addons.
Cold and Dark on the ramp FPS hovered around 60 and never dropped below 55. Except when plane first moved from it’s ramp parking spot when FPS dropped to less than 30 for about 2 seconds.
My resource monitors showed identical memory, GPU, VRAM, CPU usage in both cases.
Tried it again-same airport…etc.
Took off and made two pattern circuits at 500’ AGL. Never saw less than 55 FPS from Cold and Dark until I flew south away from the airport. Flew away from airport for 5-minutes and then returned to land on same runway I took off from. On Final saw 55 FPS until over the threshold when FPS dropped to single digits and finally settled on 4 FPS and stayed at that level until I parked and shut down the engine. FPS then jumped back up to 55.
Again, resource monitors showed no differences in usage between the takeoff performance and landing disaster.
Beta 1.5.19.0 is working very well and I am quite happy with it. But, it sure is frustrating to have a wonderful flight end in a 2 FPS crash landing.
Asobo is making great progress but I wish it were happening sooner.
If I remember correctly, in the Development Update, I think it said that they would try to improve the VRAM issue, but it would be completely resolved in SU4.
honestly I think that Asobo lazily upgraded 2020 and in the process introduced many bugs that wouldn’t happen if they would make the sim from scratch, you can’t tell me that I have the same VRAM usage from major updates ago that says the same lie and what’s worse Is that us normal users don’t know why. the sim looks even worse than fs2020
Imagine if Asobo could fully implement this in the sim. Just imagining it is incredible, let alone having it come to reality.
Interesting. But the skeptic on my shoulder murmurs in my ear “If it sounds too good to be true…”. So I will just wait and see. If it REALLY works - and works in MSFS! - it could be very significant.
If.
Just to follow up on this thread. I am getting a nice 70-100 FPS on SU3 with my 5080 without using RTSS. Happy camper. I run usually 10-11 GB VRAM with the B-787 into SFO.
I think the default aircraft such as the iniBuilds A330 perform acceptably in MSFS 2024 after SU4
Their performance remains stable even in large and complex airports
However third party aircraft that use a lot of VRAM such as the iniBuilds A350 and Fenix A320 suffer from a noticeable FPS drop over time
For example with the Fenix A320 I get about 70 FPS when entering an airport but it slowly drops to around 40 FPS in about ten minutes
I tried lowering my resolution from 3440×1440 to 1080p to reduce VRAM usage while still keeping it above my GPU VRAM limit
After switching back to 3440×1440 the FPS went back up to 70 but then again slowly dropped to 40 within ten minutes
This shows the game can actually run with good performance like Microsoft Flight Simulator 2020 but something is preventing it from doing so consistently
Asobo said SU4 will include fixes for VRAM related performance issues
Let us wait and see if that solves the problem
Were you running FS2020 with DX11 or DX12?
I never moved to DX12 in FS2020 because of the VRAM issues it caused. In FS2024, of course, we are not given the choice (as in so many things). So DX12 or nothing.
