FPS performance - VRAM bug?

Zendesk is no longer handling bug reports for MSFS2024.
It is all being done through the Bug Report section here in the forums.

That may well be true. But there were tips on how to improve performance.

do you have shared video memory

Did some firmware updates (and Nvidia Inspector changes) to enable RBAR for my RTX 3080 TI.

I definitely can see, that as soon as my VRAM limit is reached, that I have +10/+12 FPS more available than without RBAR enabled.

Unfortunately… after a couple of minutes… my RAM limit is exceeded as well… and my framerate drops again.

For me… it looks like a memory leak, which Asobo needs to fix.

Can anyone confirm this behaviour?

Yes and no. I’ve today witnessed fps drop just by looking round the cockpit. VRAM near enough saturated with 2.5gig also sat in the shared memory. Then minutes later, fps rises to normal levels (by not touching anything at all!!!), all stats identical!

I do believe this has something to do with VRAM for sure. The other elephant in the room, is why is GPU usage 0 to 6% in Windows Task Manager, but reported accurately with 3P tools? This would indicate a driver issue, or MSFS2024 is so far inside the cloud, that Windows thinks I’m on XCloud? Who knows at this stage..

Well we’re all hoping this gets logged and prioritized as it’s essentially game-breaking.

It’s not even feedback-logged…
This is one of my most significant issues, the other things are going quite well (performance-wise)…

Yeah, I have the 3070 and it is solid in the C-172 now. I increased the cache and ride around locally hopefully populating it. I have to try out the chateau of the Loire.

I seem to be good to go with 64GB of RAM and increased cache to 128GB with my 3070 and 8GB there. There is a thread on optimizing graphics settings and I blindly followed every recommendation. This is for the C-172.

RAM is the only thing I’ve seen stable. I haven’t seen it go above 24ish in any scenario so doubling my 32GB is pointless (for now)

I have 64GB and I think like you that that is plenty. I think part of the stuttering is downloading new materials… must need tons… that is why I think caching and flying around your usual flight areas may help… your mileage may vary:)

hags off does that

this behaviour has been like this since 2020,

could be, but think its more like a flawed implementation of dx12 paired with poor or non existant garbage collecting
vram use goes up but rarely goes down

Well, actually in this case, seemingly streamed planes do that. I’ve just installed the Fenix A320 comp update, and well blow me down, GPU utilisation has returned in Windows Task manager… does it have effect on the fps bug? Nope…

I had the same problem with very poor fps. I deleted my newly created cache file and I left the sim default of 16. Additionally in settings under “Global Rendering Quality” I set Raytraced Shadows to “off” position.

My frames are now comparable with msfs2020

I could definitely see that when GPU Mem went over the max the FPS dropped significantly. A temporary workaround for me was lowering the texture resolution. My GPU Mem is no longer over the maximum and I can’t tell a difference visually. The FPS has nearly tripled in the a321 at RJTT with an 11700f and a 3060 12GB.

Do you have the same issue if you follow the OP’s steps to reproduce it?
• Yes

Provide extra information to complete the original description of the issue:
• After loading in the flight, FPS instantly goes to below 15fps and sometimes only after a minute or two of stable 30fps (50% refresh rate in settings) it does the same. When exiting the flight and going back to main menu, the poor performance continues, even though the main menu didn’t have any performance issues when first starting the sim.

With everything set to Ultra like i normally do, depending on the area, my FPS falls below single digit numbers. VRAM is full.

It seems better when i set texture resolution to medium, but that shouldn’t happen with 64GB RAM and 16GB VRAM.

Also when i set texture resolution to medium the VRAM usage is still very high, about 14-15 GB.

And to think, I was very close to getting a 4080s a few weeks ago. I thought, no, I’ll just hold off to see what it’s like. Even folk with a 4090 are struggling… I just don’t understand why some aren’t affected at all and we all are.

I just hope this isn’t going to become like the marketplace download speed, “we can’t repeat it from our side.” :man_facepalming:

i do fear when something is not server related, so quite easy to fix, is going to be put under the rug

indeed i do not understand how this issue is not even feedback logged

Hey,

may I ask you, if this (significant) issue is alraeady recognized by the dev team? When exactly does something get „feedback logged“?

thank you
