Free look drift to the right when using an analog stick

I use a Logitech X56 as my HOTAS setup. On both the stick and throttle, there are analog sticks that can be set to free look in the cockpit and it seems to work quite well.

Not sure exactly when this started happening, but I noticed that after using the stick (on the flight stick) to look around, it would occasionally start drifting to the right after I used it. While it was drifting, I can’t use the mouse to look around.

At first, I thought it was just a dead zone thing. Adjusted that, but nope, still an issue. I thought maybe there might be something wrong with that particular analog stick, so I switched free look to the analog stick on the throttle. Problem still persists.

So I unbound free look from my x56 altogether and connected my XBox controller. Drift to the right is still there.

Anyone else seeing this or have a potential solution?

Hmm, sounds like you did some good troubleshooting. I would double check all camera/view settings for ALL devices connected.

It seems like it’s hanging onto the freelook for the stick. Have you tried calibrating everything outside of the game as well?

Everything is calibrated outside of the game. I see no indication of drift anywhere except in game. I don’t see drift in other games either. Only in MSFS.

Did you check to see if any other commands are bound to that stick?
It almost sounds like rudder or airleron trim is moving.

There’s nothing else bound. The default profile binds the stick to free look. But yes, I did check. Nothing else is bound to it.

I think the first thing to do is disconnect x56, and see if you still get it. At least that would identify it as a hardware problem, rather than a fault in the sim.

It may be that there’s an electrical leakage path inside the joystick. This is often caused by liquid (especially coffee!) being spilt over it, or by it being left somewhere cold and damp. Leaving it for a while in a warm dry environment may help. If not, there are two solutions - take it apart and clean around the contacts, soldered joints etc, or buy a new one!

I had a similar issue with the “mouse” control on my x52 pro throttle. It was just knackered after too much use.

I disabled it permanently through Windows. Problem solved.

It appears to be a known issue with the X56. One of my throttle sticks drifts.

i have same problem with x65f. behavior very unpredictable, it can work month without problems, than it go left till you don’t move it all position and it’s some calm, and it can be more aggressive or less, then left moves gone, and view/cursor go up, then it can go up and left, good thing is can calm by some cause, and become to almost not notification, for people with bad nervous system best way is just found this mini stick mouse in device manager and disable it

if you don’t use it in other games, it’s don’t give you this problem, in my case it is, but i have this problem everywhere, where i start to use mini stick, but as said before it can be more or less aggressive or even works without problems, then boom, and trouble back, you have two mini stick so you have double trouble

Thing is, even with the X56 mini stick unbound in MSFS and using the analog stick on my XBox controller for free look, that drift is still there.

I can’t reproduce that drift on the stick nor Xbox controller anywhere else but in MSFS.

That said, it’s not serious drift and is easy to reset. So it’s not a serious issue. But it’s a curiosity that I certainly wanted to know more about.

Thank you all for your input.
