"Friends Only" multiplayer option

In addition to the Live, All, and Group Only selection, they should implement a “friends only” option. That way you don’t have to group up and can see only people on your friends list.

@xBlackout34x, Sounds like a good suggestion to me. Have you submitted it to ZenDesk under the “Feedback & Feature Requests” category? That’s the best way to share with the team.

Hi there,
That’s an interesting idea! Regarding this idea:

there is actually a separate topic for that. If you ever return to the forums, you may wish to vote for it:

could be usefull for friend session with WW2 plane “only”

Could be possible to have a new option to “see” only friends on your list without make one group ??

Would love to see this feature implemented.

I don’t even understand why it is not there already. It would likely not even need a server change (although that would be more efficient) as the client could handle this itself by filtering the received list of aircraft and remove any that are not on the friends list.

The 8 player group limit seems a very strange arbitrary limit.

Fine to have it but a friends option from the start seems far more practical as that way it doesn’t need any pre-agreement from “friends” if they want to see each other in the sim. it adds a nice surprise if you happen to go somewhere and see “bob” happened to go to the same place as you.

I had a rethink about this. The current “group” option is a friends only because you have to pre-add people as friends in order to form the group.

I’m thinking that the OP is probably on the xbox platform as I’m not sure if on PC we have the equivalent of a friends list. Given the PC platform came first, it’s probably why xbox live (or whatever it’s called now) friends list doesn’t exist in the sim at this time.

What we really need is a “group” option similar to how it’s been implemented in Elite Dangerous. To allow community groups to be formed about particular interests.

In Elite Dangerous there are specific groups for PVE or PVP, of course these don’t apply (yet) to MSFS.

In effect we currently have:

All Players - Similar to ED’s open play free-for-all
Off - ED’s solo play
Group - Friends Only, closest to ED’s groups but not really
Live - What is even the purpose of this?

By having a true group option, players could tailor what they see to their particular interest. It also allows players to switch between various groups depending on their particular flying style that day.

For example if a community formed around vatsim, they could operate in a specific group and avoid having a lot of the “flyboys” who can’t be bothered to wait for others to take off etc.

Equally, for those interested in a more military/warfare experience they could form their own groups (possibly around the various discord virtual squadrons) and leave the rest of us to our civilian flying. It’s primarily because of these types of players that I don’t run the sim with collision on unless multiplayer is off, hurts the realism a bit.

Password protecting these groups or similar method of authorisation would not be a bad idea either.

As ED implemented this sort of setup years ago, I can’t see how it technically would not be possible now.

Sorry if this hijacks this wishlist item but thought I’d share as an alternative reimplementation of multiplayer. I’ll consider posting this as a seperate wishlist item.
