FS2020 vs Xplane

First let me state that so far I love FS2020 for the graphics and overall feel. I have been active in flight simulators for over 15 years and I have 40 hours dual instruction in a Cessna 172 and other single engine aircraft.

Lately I have been having a lot of problems with my peripherals in FS2020 so last night I cranked up X-plane and everything worked GREAT. I did some flying and all my peripherals worked perfectly as they always have done.

Does anyone know when FS2020 will have onboard support for more peripherals? It seems that a lot of the efforts of the FS2020 team lately have been directed at the X-Box support and more graphical changes to the sim.

I will continue to use FS2020 but if I want a real flying experience I guess I will have to go back to X-plane if I want to use all my peripherals. Thanks in advance for any and all answers…

What is it you are saying exactly? You have a peripheral which doesn’t work with MSFS or is it that it simply doesn’t have a profile? What scale are we looking at here, are you building a home cockpit or is it one or two devices which are not compatible?

If you can’t get a peripheral working then raise a bug with Zendesk. If it’s just a mapping issue then you only need to figure that out once. There hasn’t been any roadmap update for peripherals support but ninja updates have been included in patches which have improved the mapping experience and there has also been new profiles added.

Your options are to raise bug/issue in the forums and collect votes or ask a question for the next Q&A live stream but before that you might want to expand on the issues you are having here, maybe the community can help.

Sorry I was not more clear. Thanks for noting this.

I have peripherals from a number of different manufacturers. They all work well in X-Plane but are, to put it mildly, a problem to use in FS2020. They require me to go out of FS2020 to load their drivers once FS2020 has started and there are a lot of drivers to load. Then sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t. In X-Plane I just start the sim and they all work. I will post this over at ZenDesk. Thanks for your timely reply.

Any chance you could list exactly what peripherals are not working? Make, and model if you could.

Most likely a third party application may be needed, like SPAD, Axis and Ohs, or FSUIPC.

I use SPAD for my Logitech panels, for example.

Cirrus Yoke - Functions normally in both X-Plane and FS-2020
Precision Flight Controls on my IPAD - Functions normally in both X-Plane and FS-2020
Logitech Radio Panel - Sometimes works sometimes not in FS2020 but works OK in X-Plane
Logitech Multi Panel - Sometimes works sometimes not in FS2020 but works OK in X-Plane
Logitech Switch Panel - Sometimes works sometimes not in FS2020 but works OK in X-Plane
GoFlight MCP-Pro worked in FS2020 until two updates ago then stopped working. Have not tried it on X-Plane but it did work.
GoFlight GF-TQ6 Seems to work OK in both FS2020 and X-Plane
It is the “gee why did this work before the last update but now sometimes works and sometimes not” that really gets to me. Most everything works fine in X-Plane not so much in FS2020.

I use SPAD, Axis and Ohs, or FSUIPC plus the drivers from Logitech.

All Peripherals are on powered USB3 Hubs.

This all started when FS2020 was updated at the same time as Windows 10. Before the update everytning I had worked OK with FS2020 and X-Plane.

Thanks for your questions. Hope I gave you the information you needed.

I can’t speak for the other equipment, but I know a fair bit about the Logitech panels as I use those myself, and also with SPAD.

For me they work flawlessly. There are a few things to consider. Make sure you don’t have the Logitech drivers installed, and also ensure you have run SPAD with admin rights so it can disabled the advanced power management for the panels. Otherwise they go to sleep if they are on, and nothing is accessing them. You can power cycle them with the sim running , but disabling the power management is the simplest fix.

I have the same equipment and use Spad. A couple of things I do.

  1. I create a new profile for the plane, lets use the C172 as a example.
  2. This I assign the aircraft to that profile either by reindexing when doing assignment aircraft or when it Spad pops up with the dialog, aircraft not assign.
  3. In Spad, some of the online defaults do not work with the default MSFS 2020 planes. Moreso with add ons like the carenado planes.

Lets talk about the saitek switch panel. I always use change data. So for example there is one called set master battery. I select that one and set the parameter to 1 so it comes on on the turn switch on option. To use the set switch off I set it to 0. The conditions also in the change data do not have to be used. Now if what you need to do is say start the engine, I use the send option instead of such as toggle starter 1. When I install a new 3rd party aircraft, I run the LVars wizzard ans a lot of new commands area added. Carenado planes usually start with ASD182 for the C182. They have all the things needed like powering up the battery that the MSFS 2020 or simconnect do not work

Sorry I am traveling so saying all this out of memory. Maybe I should create a YouTube video on all this. I have been working with Spad for about 5 years now and have 90% of all my aircrafts assigned and working with the default and 3rd party planes in P3D and Ms 2020. Except the softkeys on. G1000, that is another story.

All that said, MS2020 is still new compared to xplane or P3D so it will get better over time. If you do use Spad, like the one post said remove the Logictech drivers, they conflict. Anyway, more info than you may of needed.

It’s difficult to suggest what was wrong as “Sometimes works sometimes not” could mean a dozen things.

For the Logitech gear I can make assumptions based on my own experiences, and when set up correctly they are near flawless.

For the GoFlight MCP-Pro I have literally no idea. I don’t know how that even interfaces with MSFS.

A quick search found this:

This thread seems to indicate you use their own drivers, and use FSX as the simulator preset. Further down it mentions SPAD, and some users report that newer hardware seems to work for most GF models.

No one cares, xplaners trying to win back simmers, you really have started to panic, just admit it xplane is a nogo.

When I was setting up my Logitech panels, I read several things that indicated they don’t play nice with USB 3. Perhaps move them to USB 2 ports? Just an idea or something to try.

Yes that is a big one. Saitek works much more dependable on usb 2. I found a usb device that plugs into usb port and gives you 4 usb plug ins. No power. Found on Amazon about 5 dollars. I got one and it was amazing. So I ordered 4 more for more saitek and back up. I plugged them in usb. However the Saitek radio needs a good usb 2 or 3 to work well

Cant add too much, I have the Logitech radio, switch panels and throttle quadrant and apart from the small patch I download from their site it was all plug and play, it all just works for me.

I have all my sim gear connected to a single powered USB3 16 port hub, and have no issues with the Logitech panels.
