I’m wondering if I am the only one experiencing this, I haven’t seen any bug reports on this topic.
In outside view I can’t use press and hold right mouse button for free look.
I cannot zoom in or out in external view at all, not using the mouse scroll wheel, neither using keyboard.
I sometimes can zoom in and out in cockpit view, other times not and it requires a restart to fix this, sometimes from the beginning of the flight, sometimes randomly during flight.
When I press and hold right mouse button to look around in cockpit view, my controls are unresponsive. If I press and hold right mouse button, all axis are ignored. Essentially I can’t look around and fly at the same time.
I already tried to delete all key bindings and start from scratch. These are my key bindings now.
External View, Left, Right, Up, Down (Lockable) don’t work, so I have assigned the non lockable ones now which bypasses pressing and holding the right mouse button which is not what I want.
Switching between cockpit, external, drone and fixed views is also a mess, I can get into drone view or fixed camera views but then get stuck. I just deleted all key bindings for fixed views and drone camera.
1 and 2 are related, with one being a drone camera which by default you don’t look around with the mouse. The other mode you can.
For 4 that is an old issue going back to around 2020 SU5, when they introduced the new interaction mode that works better with console controllers.
I still can’t believe that in more than 4 years they still cannot fix such a rudimentary issue as mouse acceleration, and the right mouse locking primary flight controls.
I don’t use the drone camera, I deleted all bindings for the drone camera so I’m not even able to access it. Just the normal external view. I can look around by using the mouse, but not lockable by pressing and holding the right mouse button. Zoom in and out does not work at all in external view. And again I can’t zoom in or out in cockpit view either, it works sometimes, not always. Guess need to restart the flight again .
Right-click+Hold freelook works in cockpit and external modes.
Scroll wheel zoom works in cockpit and external modes.
I have full HC Alpha yoke/rudder control while panning around.
I managed to solve the issue I was facing, similar to number 4. I fly with the TWCS* Throttle from Thrustmaster, and after the recent update (and I don’t know the reason) the sim kept returning it to the default bindings. All I had to do was to increase its analog stick (button #6) deadzone and the cockpit camera and free look returned to normality
I have the same, very weird. I will add the free look without hold and see if that miraculously fixes it, shouldn’t have anything to do with it, but lets see .
Nope, still not working. I can’t look around in external view, I can’t zoom in or out in external view, most of the time not in cockpit view either. It is definitely a bug. This is just ridiculous.
I just loaded into my R-Fal at 10,000 ft.
Mouse freelook (hold right mouse button) worked.
Zoom (mouse scroll wheel) worked.
Both cockpit and external.
Could it be something with how Windows is controlling your mouse differently than mine?
FWIW, I’m using a Corsair Dark Core Pro SE mouse. Wireless - RF USB dongle.
Free look works 100% in cockpit view so I doubt that. Zoom also works sometimes in cockpit view, never in external view. If I assign key bindings for zoom in and out, same results. I think something got screwed up and restoring all key bindings to default might help. I rather move back to 2020.
Hi Captain. before you tear your hair out, I too have the same systems you are trying to work around. Bottom line is that this is about this is about the buggiest software I have ever seen, that is a stain on Microsoft’s reputation. MSFS should be the flagship of the MS product line. I particularly find the deletion of some actions are impossible to delete. The problems run deep and wide. Why can’t we have numbers in the programming screen to aid blind programming in the Alpha and Bravo modules…
I gave up and I am waitnig for the big update, out today as I understand it…
Issue #4 has been around since the early days of 2020. Why such a glaring bug has gone unfixed for years is rather mind boggling.
That said, I’d recommend exploring third-party control solutions like SPAD. It’s not user-friendly, but it allows you to make specific control bindings that aren’t possible in MSFS’ control system and fully workaround this specific issue.
Asobo has such a fixation on Xbox support that I have significant doubts they will ever fix this particular bug within the next decade.
If they aren’t listed on the change log, then they won’t be. These are issues they have either ignored, or brushed aside for years now. They actually made mouse freelook worse than in 2020, and I wasn’t sure that was even possible.
It now has both positive, and negative mouse acceleration! If you hold the right mouse button then move the mouse at a reasonable speed it will accelerate, and you will overshoot. If you move the mouse slowly, you can move your mouse all the way across your desk, and your view won’t change at all.
What does all that work well on though? You guessed it, a console controller.
