FSAutoSave (for saving and resuming flights in MSFS)

This utility will automatically save your Flights in Flight Simulator when you exit so you can resume where you left. Easy to install and does not require any configuration. It will automatically save your flight when you end a session -or- by pressing CTRL+ALT+S. To resume a Flight simply go to the World Map and load the file called LAST.FLT.

Its been released as open source so you can compile it yourself or download the binary. Testing was done with the PMDG 737-800 so it works 100% with that particular Aircraft. Some MSFS default aicraft were tested too with success but due to the complexity of some MSFS aircraft add-ons there is no way for me to test with every aircraft. (besides, I only fly the 737-800)

I set up a discord page for questions, suggestions or ideas here:

And the Github page for the sources and binary can be found here:

Keep in mind this utility is meant to be used to resume and continue flights in real time, meaning, it will use LIVE WEATHER and LOCAL TIME, its not meant to be used to save ‘situations’. The people that will benefit most from this is those who like to do several legs in a span of days or for around the world flights where you hop from gate to gate and wish to continue the next day. You can save during any stage of flight also, cruise, taxi, landing, just keep in mind that when you resume both weather and time will be LIVE.

Also, this tool is not meant to create a SAVE to recover from crashes or CTDs, while you can certanly also use it for that, the utility real benefit is maintaining persistence betweeen flights after completing them.

Enjoy!

This sounds really useful, and yet another example of a 3rd party developer providing a tool that many of us think should be an integral part of the base sim.

I’m going to give it a try.

I agree it does sound really useful and I can see some code when I follow the github link but I have no idea how to deploy it onto my pc. Being a new user of MSFS I’m surprized to hear the game has no save/restore function.

On the github page linked above there is a button on the right marked ‘latest’.

Click that button and it will open a page with an EXE file.

Download that and then run execute it when the sim is running.

Thank you for very much for the reply I’ll do that, also is it persistent or do I need to run it every time I load FS. Sorry for the dum questions, hopefully we will see it added to the 2024 ver later this year.

Not really sure as yet I but I think it needs to be executed each time.

I did try to run it once and it froze the sim. I’m going to check it out some more when I get the chance.

cheers

Thank you again, I hope to check it out myself tomorrow when I can get some flight time.

If you install Addons_Linker (a must-have, IMHO) you can have it launch other programs and set the delay time, forcing them to start after the sim starts.

That’s a great idea, I do have linker installed after reading about it on here, only using it for some TBM 930 livery at the moment, something else to try, love this forum.

I believe it’s in ‘Options’.

It sort of worked but not well enough for me to use it. I could not get it to save simple flight plans from either mid flight or on the ground. These were created through Little Navmap and exported. Tried starting and using the ‘autosave’ with & without Navmap running, crashed the game once. I’m not yet smart enough to create flight plans using the G3000 so can’t comment on that. It’s still a great idea and I appreciate the effort that must have gone into it and I hope it’s a work in progress.
