If you’re genuinely asking what I do think, I don’t need to repeat myself in this topic. If however my post lead you to believe I was expressing any personal opinion then I’m sorry to have poorly expressed myself.
I’m was just raising what I find is an interesting point of view on 2 seemingly (but only seemingly) opposing interpretations to the topic question.
However if I were to give you any answer, the best one would be what the FS2020 teams was selling us back then, which should leaves no doubt about why simmers are expecting them to be exhibiting in simmers dedicated shows:
Who knows? Sure enough pandemic is not without consequences to the organization of these events.
Actually here is what I wrote nearly a year ago:
But let’s not fool ourselves either, this was the ACE Studio:
However as for the FSX team, at least the ACE studio leads used to answer my emails, to share their enthusiasm with Reality XP products and they were recognizant of the outstanding quality of our work and how much Reality XP was raising the bar for the simmers. I keep my mind open though.
Some more info about the DevCon 2007 event:
I’m actually reading some blog posts there and this is reminding me a lot of things!
Here are a few samples showing how profound this was for the entire 3rd party dev community:
Day 5: DevCon 1st day | SceneryDesign.org
For example I met Bob Bernstein and Bill Womack, two people I know for years already from different internet fora for scenery designers. It was really nice to talk with them in person. I also met different users of the FSDeveloper website,
And of course I should not forget to mention all the people from the ACES team I talked with during they day. Being able to talk so easily with them about things that we (as the community) think are important is a great benefit of an event like this.
Day 8: AvSim FanCon day 1 | SceneryDesign.org
The 2nd and 3d day of the DevCon kept me quite busy, so I did not write a new blog posts about them. But I can tell you that those two days were great as well. Learned a lot and spoken to a lot of interesting people.
In the evening there was the AvSim Awards Banquet. They had two very interesting speakers, the first was a Boeing test pilot who gave a talk about the Boeing 747 Superfreighter that is used to transport parts of the 787. And the second speaker was Eric Lindbergh Jr.
It was so nice to be able to meet all these outstanding figures of the flight simulation world! And with the Avsim FanCon right after the MSFT DevCon, it was even greater to meet all the people we were used to know mostly online only. Good souvenirs of these 2 events.
