FTSim+ Twin Otter Sounds addon

I haven’t bought the Twin Otter yet as the default sounds are horrible (per a lot of comments on this forum and lots of videos I’ve watched/listened to).

I use FTSim’s sound packs for the two Citations and they are fantastic. I’ve also just listened to the newly released sound pack for the Twin Otter and they sound good, but there aren’t any interior shots of spool up (just spool down) so I don’t get the full story.

The video on their YouTube page is below. Sounds promising but feel like I need a few more opinions before I shell out on buying the airplane.

They don’t seem to offer a solution to buy them. I certainly don’t plan on leasing the sounds from them via a subscription, or am I getting something wrong here?
Also they don’t seem to have them ready for download yet. It’s not listed on their homepage.

You have to sign up to their Patreon I believe. You technically can pay, download the sound pack and then unsubscribe and I think it’s only going to be a couple of dollars. The only problem is when there’s an update for the pack.

Honestly for me it’s worth just keeping subscribed. I am not a fan of paying for digital goods when I don’t have a lot of faith in the quality, but with these guys it’s definitely worth it. The sound quality with the Citations (the CJ4 especially) is right up there.

They are ready, as Andersinho said you need to be a Patreon subscriber but at US$2/month I got the Twin Otter, Caravan and EMB 110 files, and many more airliner soundpacks are available at that tier. Some require the $5/mo tier. All of the download links themselves are on Patreon once you’re signed up. Also just confirming what Andersinho said, you can just pay for a month and get all of the files you want that are available at that tier, no obligation to continue your subscription. He does say he’ll release 2 soundpacks a month though (not always MSFS) so it’s a pretty solid deal either way.

How are the Twin Otter sounds? I haven’t invested in the aircraft yet as the sounds need to be at least decent

I will be testing them out tonight and will let you know!

I haven’t been able to record (my recording software, well, ALL recording software causes my sim to crash for the past few months) but so far I’ll say this about the sounds:

There’s no sound attenuation when opening the doors with this soundpack, and there are some sound files that seem to still be Aerosoft (in other words I don’t think he’s replaced 100% of the sounds yet.) The sounds are much smoother, no abrupt transition other than maybe during startup.

Overall, they are pretty good sounds. I wouldn’t quite say great sounds, in fact I’d say that Aerosoft’s sounds were of higher quality but they were mixed and transitioned terribly. This is a nice stand-in for the time being but I don’t think these sounds are especially phenomenal or anything. For the price of a Patreon sub though, these are not bad at all and definitely make more sense even if they don’t wow.

Quick edit to add that at some power settings there’s a bit of a pop.. it’s not egregiously bothersome, but every so often you hear the loop more than you might want to.

FTSim+ updates their soundpacks from time to time so I’ll be curious to see if he improves this one, but I don’t have any regrets for the absurdly low price of $2!

Cool. It might be worth the splurge for the aircraft now, then.

thanks for your evaluation. Did you also test the workaround with the TSS Sounds?
If so: which would you consider better?

There are TSS sounds available for this aircraft? I used to use TSS with X-Plane. They were also fantastic sound packs. I used one on the X-Plane CRJ and it was awesome. The Aerosoft CRJ’s sounds are ■■■■■■ even with FTSiM’s addons because the spooling time is really slow and it ruins the immersion. A sound pack doesn’t fix it.

But anyway, this discussion is about the Twotter

The sounds are for P3D IIRC. But they can be combined with the original sounds. There are two mods on flightsim.to that kind of mix the original Aerosoft sounds (interiors, switches etc) with TSS engine sounds.

Installation order ist like that:

  1. TSS Sounds
simMarket: DHC-6 PT-6 TWIN OTTER HD PILOT EDITION SOUNDPACK FOR FSX

  2. Aerosoft Twin Otter Soundmod for RPM/Pitch Fix
    https://flightsim.to/file/26712/aerosoft-twin-otter-soundmod-for-rpm-pitch-fix

  3. CCM’s Sound Config mod
    https://flightsim.to/file/27542/ccm-s-twotter-tss-sound-config-mod

Seems like a bit of a faff

The sounds aren’t bad since the patch. In fact some of the sounds are amazing and unlike anything I have heard in MSFS but we all know the issues with the engine speeding and slowing, and while improved to a point where I doubt as many would have noticed it, it is still a weakness.

I wouldn’t buy a sound pack for the Twin Otter since I know Aerosoft is getting new recordings… but you may wish to wait until they do fix the sound.

This issue has no impact on the flight model, and really isn’t a problem for 99% of a flight.

Resurrecting an old post here. Aerosoft has pretty much abandoned fixing the sounds packs for this plane based on their forums posts.

And since they also went seemingly went to the extreme to go after people who are attempting to fix this for “free”, I am looking at this mod pack.

Is the consensus still that this is a good deal for 10 bucks? (Seems that is the min level where sound packs are offered now)

It’s not $10, it’s a Patreon site subscription of $2 per month minimum. You can download the whole FTSim+ catalog of sound mods for MSFS, P3D, XP & FSX in that month and then cancel the $2 subscription if you want to.

Thanks!!!

Did anyone grabbed the new FTSIM FA-18 sound mod for MSFS ? im curious about it

I need support with installing this mod. I don’t understand the installation instruction. Based on them I shall move the Twin Otter Addon from my community folder to “the main folder” and only install the addon into the community folder. This makes no sense to me. And I have it installed from XBOX on my PC. So even don’t know in which folder I shall move the Twin Otter.

Can somebody support here?

Leave the twin otter folder where it is.
Rename the sound mod folder to z-dhc-6_sp and move it into the community folder. It’ll work perfectly.

I think that they are very good.
