G1000 NXI missing airports in NRST. How come?

The two airports are KPAO (Palo Alto) and KSQL (San Carlos). Both are in Silicon Valley, in California. What is the criteria for an airport to show up in the NRST list for MSFS version of the G1000?

The default criteria are a hard surface runway of at least 3000 feet; KPAO and KSQL are both shorter, it looks like. If you change it to 2000 feet they show up.

[This is with the G1000 NXi on the current beta. Should be same on the marketplace NXi on SU9.]

How do I change it to 2000 ft?

Also, I was flying the DA-62 in the general area and wanted to land in the two airports. In addition to not being able to find them, I also noted that I could not obtain frequency information on airports that were available in the general area in the G1000 eg. KSFO and KHAF. How do I get frequency info of an airport in the G1000?

I’m using SU9 on Steam. I was using the NXI mod but removed it when the DA-62 kept going in circles and I could not locate the YD (yaw damper) button.

Roughly:

  • use the outer knob on the MFD to switch to the system config page
  • click the button on the MFD knob to enter focus into the first field in the screen
  • use the outer knob (IIRC) to select the runway minimum length field (defaulting to 3000 feet)
  • use the knobs to set the desired new minimum (2000 or 2500, say) - note this’ll be digit by digit, not a shorter/longer roll of the knob.
  • click the button again to leave focus

Now the nearest menu should show the airports with shorter runways. I’m not sure if this is retained over sessions, or if you have to set it each time.

Frequency info should appear in the detail view on the MFD, again you’ll want to select the appropriate page with the MFD’s knob first.

For more detailed help, I recommend checking out Working Title’s discord chat – there’s a lot of folks who can help out with confusing bits of the interface. You can find the links from the main G1000 NXi thread:

@Vibstronium I re-installed the WT G1000 NXi. But I can’t find a knob that you might be referring to. What knob?

I pressed on the Menu button and I only get two options: Declutter and Map Settings.

Got it. Yaaay. I wouldn’t have guessed. Thank you very much.

I have an unrelated question. I hope you don’t mind me asking. I’ve been using the WT G3000 iin the Longitude. There are three keypad-like calculator sized controllers, one to the bottom left of the PFD, and two below the MFD. Would you happen to know what they are called by Garmin? I’ve seen reference to GTC. Is that acronym for Garmin Touch Controller?

Correct, those are the GTCs according to the manual I have and it does appear to stand for Garmin Touch Controller.

The G3000 version that’s currently public isn’t as close to the real unit as the G1000 NXi is (yet! they’re working on it) but you can find real-world manuals online for both if you search around – can be quite helpful sometimes, to figure out what’s the proper way of doing something (though sometimes it’s not implemented right).

Googling something like ā€œg3000 integrated avionics system pilot’s guideā€ will probably find you some nice PDFs out there

Yes, I actually spent time googling before entering this post. The problem I was running across was that there are so many references and google hits. It’s like looking for a needle in a haystack.

And this problem is diagonally opposite the problem I came across when looking for references to the Longitude. There are lots of info based on personal experiences (opinions?) about it but not much definitive official tech info on that plane. It’s hard to figure out how things are done exactly --when software may have version control issues between Asobo devs, 3rd party add-on devs (eg. Garmin), and their many users. (edit: I should add, version control issues between everyone and reality  )

By the way, for the possible benefit of future readers ā€˜pressing the button’ in my PC is actually:

= press the left mouse button, and while holding down that button, press the right mouse button.
