G36 Improvement Project

Is anyone else getting a nose down jerk when engaging AP now in a climb? Even in I’m trimmed properly climbing 800 fpm, I’ll engage FLC mode at current speed or match VS mode before engaging, but I still get an abrupt nose down attitude before it corrects itself. Also AP seems to have trouble keeping the selected VS.

I know this isn’t the mod, just curious if I’m the only one experiencing this.

I don’t have that issue.

Thank you for the version 0.6. Very nice improvements for the G36 :+1:t2:. I have only one problem with AP PID parameters. Due to 0 values in the integration factors there are remaining deviations during AP controlled flight ( ALT… 50-100 feet at 1500 ft) for flightlevel control and for glidescope during ILS approach (APR resulting in a low or short approach 4 red PAPI lights). I have changed some parameters in your ai.cfg for the flight director part and this is solving my problem. (Also replacing only these lines with the actual Asobo parameters is better at this moment for my approaches)

Yes, since the FS big update the AP is very aggressive and jerky.

Yep, I’m seeing this behavior in other planes (specifically the DA62) also. When engaging FLC at the current speed, the AP will pitch the nose down and back up.

@MrTommymxr made those changes, perhaps discuss with him. Please make a pull request if necessary!

Yes the autopilot is very aggressive in controlling pitch trim since the new update. Pretty bad job considering the delay that was supposedly due to unresolved AP issues while it worked just fine before…

TBM AP does the same thing - very aggressive pitch control on VS mode.

And if you neutralize your control curves?

Yes, I tried what you said and nothing. It only happens when I install the mod…

And do you mean it only moves a little up/down of roll left/right and then stops regardless of input? or just slower? Are you not trying to battle the autopilot?

It only moves a little with full input… you just described it. The feeling is like trying to fight the autopilot but everything is off.
BTW You made me remember the old days of flight test and that was one of that, override the autopilot with pilot inputs

These Autopilot changes were made before the update. I removed the Integral because it is simply not needed.
A perfectly trimmed out plane requires no constant control effort. Integral also caused integral windup. Accidentally turning on your autopilot on the ground for more than 5 seconds or intercepting a radial/track could cause the autopilot to not behave correct.

In this update they have added around 5-10% deadzone, meaning you would need 5-10% control effort, for the plane to react.
The derivative has been dampened, stopping the bouncing we had before with the TBM and other planes.

they have also made the trim EXTREMELY fast.

All these changes combined fixes Asobos horrible PIDs, but now breaks the improved ones.

The sudden pitch down when changing modes is something I cannot touch. That’s part of the core autopilot logic.

I was soo busy fixing my PIDs and other things that i forgot to tell you @FrettFS. sorry about that.
id recommend you revert back to the stock file for the time being

I am honestly very ■■■■■■ about this update. I put alot of time into the autopilot to make it sharp, yet loose when in turbulence. And now all of this is down the drain

I’m out of ideas at this point… Sorry…

Don’t worry I will continue doing tests… Thank you very much FrettFS

thanks for the work you are doing.

@FrettFS, quick question for you sir.
I am struggling a bit after 0.6 in the taxiways. If I apply full toe brake, the airplane get stuck in the ground.
Tried to set the park brake on and off, but there isn’t anything I can do to free the airplane from the tarmac.
This is happening only when I have the mod installed, with the vanilla version I don’t get stuck.
I am going to re-download and try again to check if I corrupted a file during the transfer, but I am not even sure if the changes you made in the mode could cause something like this.

Do you have any ideas?

Without your mod, there is no reason to fly the G36

Anyway, thanks for you awesome work and support!

Yep happened to me as well. Setting VS to -700fpm results in -500fpm descent. Other models are affected as well.

I noticed this quite significantly happen close to stall speed with APP flaps close to touchdown, the elevator is much less responsive.
But other than that I don’t see it during regular flight.
In which situations do you have the issue? 140kts speed in 5000ft with headwind should give you great maneuverability.

What I noticed is that they changed sensitiviy for me quite heavily. The curve is no longer a curve but just has two areas per axis - less sensitive and more sensitive, which was a death trap on the rudder until I set sensitivity back to 0.

I once had it stuck on the apron but it never occured again, so didn’t pay attention to it.

What are the steps to consistently reproduce this?

Did your flight model get set to ‘legacy’ in the options somehow?
