Can’t seem to find this subject in the forums so apologies if this has been discussed already, but has anyone addressed the issue with GA parking positions? In particular, GA aircraft are almost always spawned facing backwards in a parking spot with a pusher in front of them to back them out. Like in the image below from a spot at Big Bear (L35), the way it spawns in would have the plane pointing at a light post / fence in real life. Real aircraft are parked the other way, and they wouldn’t use a pusher like that on a Cessna (most likely). The markers are painted on the ground correctly so it’s not like the sim isn’t aware.
Of course it’s easy to slew-rotate the plane the right way, it’s just annoying. Is there any mod out there that fixes this?
Not really answering your question, although I’ve personally not seen anything, but I’ve rarely had a problem with the way light aircraft are parked and never use a tug. I’ve actually turned off the tug in all my light aircraft - just to go to the specific aircraft cfg file, scroll down and change 1 to 0 on the relevant line. I did this because the tug was usually blocking my exit from the parking spot!
Happens to me all the time.
Sometimes my plane is parked right to the fuel pump…
I guess the sim shares the same parking spot logic large airports with tube liners use.
Its even worse when you are parked right in front of a building and you have no pushback option, even on big airports and even when the guy IS RIGHT THERE IN FRONT OF YOU.
The tug luckily is not a crash object, so you can close your eyes and taxi right through it. Of course that is to all of us who like to keep things realistic simply put a pain in the …..
As others have pointed out you can edit the config file to eliminate the tug on the aircraft in general…then there is no tug in the way at all. And if the sim spans you in a spot you can not taxi out of, you still have the push back functionality simply by the keyboard short cuts.
Fixing the orientation is not so easy, as this is embedded in the airport design. And the only way to edit that would be to decompile the file and then edit the parking spot orientation for each spot and then recompile the file to make the airport work again.
I do not even know if it is possible to decompile original airports…it may be possible to do this within the SDK….but I found the Interface so far rather hard to work with.
The direction an aircraft faces is a configurable part of the scenery SDK and in custom built airports it’s very easy to set what direction the aircraft will face when spawning in.
Autogen ones will be main concern here though and it’s a little more complicated as it’s bound up with the way ground markings are painted and the way they link into the graph of taxiway pathways.
The best option would be to allow the user to define in the World Map what direction they want the aircraft to face when spawning in. Which could either be default or some heading value
