Short story. Started with 2020. Fell in love with X-Plane 12 C172 physics and handling compared to MSFS. Went xplane only for couple of years.
Recently while still in XP12 I got into helicopters which fly lower to ground and are more visual. And heard about Taog Hangar helicopters having tweaked physics. Fell in love with their 500C.
Now Im a flight sim swinger, XP12 is still my wife but MSFS24 is a lovely fwb.
So I wondered, well there must be some fixed wing aircraft with tweaked physics!!!
. After checking the forums It looks like the A2A Comanche is the king in this respect?
What other planes fly remarkably well and are known to overide MSFS? ChatGPT says that blacksquare ones are very complete but still depend on MSFS default physics.
COWS DA40 is my favourite. It’s the only aircraft in the sim that replicates adverse yaw, p-factor and slipstream effect accurately. Also the ground handling with the differential braking like in the real thing is really awesome.
Only A2A fully override MSFS physics. Their Aerostar 600 is also very good but I think the Comanche has more character. Yes the Black Square products all fly extremely well and the COWS DA40 and 42 are superb, on the same level as A2A for realism for sure - sublime and lovely to fly.
The area that the A2A’s wins big is on transition to/from ground handling and actual taxi behaviour on the ground on different surfaces. Nothing can match that TBH. The engine simulation stuff is super nice and clever but doesn’t really affect how it flies as such.
There are plenty of other aircraft that fly very satisfyingly too. Too many to mention but Got Friends, Blackbird (MilViz) and Hangar Studio 713 also top notch. FlightFX are solid too for larger aircraft.
Taog is on a roll with their latest helis. I really enjoy them. FlyInside Bell 206 and Bell 47G I also love but they are very challenging (but easy to tweak to make them easier). These also use a custom FM.
Have a look at my “Your Top 10 Aircraft” topic if you haven’t already seen it. Will give you a good idea of what are considered “the best”.
