As Mario mentioned earlier the data quality gives some funny stuff, like the below ships which should have been moored parallel…
but mostly it looks okay

People are spoiled nowadays … hardly understanding the complexity and difficulty with all kind of live traffic
Hope we see your models soon !
I will see how much I get to do this week, but I have my daytime job also and then I will be travelling for three weeks for business. We will provide some feedback to Asobo also on the data side to see if ships movement can be smoother, but that will be up to them how they will prioritize that. The good news is that the ship models work as intended.
I just shared a beta with a few testers earlier today, but I expect before or around Christmas.
I remember having those in our GAIST RT version as well, not as many as now. But that might been a result of filtering by the DataProvider already.
As soon as I have a workable solution for the missalignment I will let ASOBo know so they can adjust it on their end
Technically that’s extrapolation. You’re assuming a continuation of the trend based on (a) data point(s) in the past
Interpolation would mean you would have the last data point and before last datapoint and let the ship move linearly between the two points in the time of Δt. Although this introduces a 1 data point delay, it would mean you can get rid of a lot of funny behavior.
Ermm, yeh okay. Whatever.
But will my ships then stop going round and round?
Flew over the Panama canal yesterday. Fewer ships (all marked GAYA) with some aligned ok, but most not. Also there was hardly any water in the Gatun locks - so much for the reality of MSFS 2024:-(
I just flew over the Panama Canal today with GAIST for 2024 Beta installed…
Bulk carrier and tug at the Gatun locks
Container ships moored and advancing towards the Gatun locks
NYK Lines Car Carrier in the Corte de Culebra and passing under the highway bridge
and a coincidence… a sister to the NYK Lines vessel above but in real life entering the Miraflores lock, when I visited Panama with my son three weeks ago
One of the major bugs we experienced in MSFS 2020 - the altitude bug which prevented ships from sailing on higher altitude rivers, lakes and channels has finally been solved in MSFS 2024. So finally we can have live traffic eg in the Canal. No, the locks do not work and never did in any simulator… Ships will sail up or down the hill in an awkward movement…
Probably to preserve bandwith ships are only loaded in a small area around the plane - I say probably because we are in the GAIST team not developing the Asobo solution, but just advising the. With the interval of data sent by AIS you might have passed before something appear as this loading area is really small. I am confident that Asobo will work on this in the months to come and we will try to inspire them to do so… But on the ship side, just installing the GAIST library completely changes the game.
Cant wait to see your beautifull ships again Henrik
Hi if i load your v6.1 models into my community folder will msfs 2024 use them?
Will v6.1 work in msfs 2024 using the bgl?
I copied only the models not the bgl will that allow msfs 2024 to use your models?
The answer is… not extremely clear at the moment but I did test all the combinations…
v6.1 MIGHT WORK with the BGL included - it doesn’t always work, but sometimes it does… the ships work but it seems the bgl will not always be read, but you can try.
V6.1 WILL NOT WORK WITHOUT THE BGL, the ships will not use the real time traffic data, for that I am preparing a new version dedicated to MSFS 2024 to be released before Christmas
additional info…
Great Lakes will NOT WORK in 2024… but once the ice melt in spring there should be ships on the lakes in real time…
I have done quite some testing since launch and while the real time traffic some times works decent, but not fantastic, it is generally very unstable for the moment. Using the GAIST ships prepared for MSFS 2024 clearly increases the number of ships displayed and the diversity, but it remains unstable and unpredictable.
For those who tried the beta of the GAIST RT last year or saw the videos posted by eg @SkyLane7277 with the GAIST RT will know that we had a much more stable solution, but hopefully we will get there as MSFS 2024 mature.
hopefully we will get there as MSFS 2024 mature.
Ouch. That’s a tough one to read. We were fooled again.
I think it wasn’t that hard for many to believe this level of air and ship traffic was possible because of the prevalence of GAIST and FSLTL - but there should have been more suspicions about how those could natively be implemented and functional from day 1. Especially when it comes to branding/liveries/trademarks.
How could we get 100s of airline and ship liveries in the sim out of the box? and many other tough questions weren’t even lobbed at the Asobo team because nobody doubted it could be done, yet here we are.
The main thing I wish MSFS2024 would do differently is match up models closer to the length of the real ship.
So far I didn’t experience anything close to GAIST by default in the sim regarding realistic ship traffic and the way they behave.
I know it’s FLIGHT simulator but still, this is all making a big difference in how real it feels! Landing at Singapore with an empty anchorage or a full one is making a big difference for me as a merchant navy officer.
Haven’t seen a single boat or ship in 2024, and I have ship traffic (or whatever it is called) set to ULTRA!
Praying every day for GAIST to make it into 2024 ASAP! As the above poster said, I feel similar crossing the English channel between Dover and Calais and not seeing a single boat…
Well I seen some shipping going on specially in the new york area, but not even close to what GAIST delivers so yeah I really miss this and hope it comes fast even if it’s a beta that is not finished anything is better then the default
Well, i love GAIST in ms2020, i like flying in the Seattle area, and always plenty of traffic and variety. I have yet to see one ship in the Seattle area with fs2024 even on ultra settings. I am just now sitting waiting patiently for the new update.
That will happen with GAIST for MSFS 2024 installed - already with the combination of default and the first 350 unique models prepared it works quite well.
I took a trip to Singapore this morning with GAIST installed - we still miss a bit compared to our old GAIST RT beta - but improving…
695 models loaded flying over the Western part of the harbour and which grew to 780 heading towards Changi - ship movements continue to be not as desired and how we used to have it in GAIST RT but again, we will get there.
I was flying wtih an average FPS of 55
As mentioned the other day the update is still in line for launch before Christmas - I know it would be nice to have it before, but I only got the sim last Sunday, so even though I had an idea of which direction to work in, it was only getting proven last Sunday.
If you turn on nameplates you’ll probably ‘see’ a bunch of invisible ones. I think the streaming thing means they won’t show unless you fly close to them to get them downloaded first. Then you should see some more default boats around. I saw quite a few in Hong Kong the other day.
Correct - and as the GAIST is installed locally in community the ships turn up as soon as the data is there
