GAIST Global AI Ship Traffic V6 and Great Lakes

What’s interesting about it to pass at least is the industrial nature of the place and the ships that come into the docks. Some of them are enormous things carrying hundreds of new cars. And I think areas like this are really interesting to fly over, far more so than the countryside.

Cool. Perhaps you might like my little video then. Sorry no ships but maybe that will improve with the next version of GAIST

(Health Warning: Some people might find the lack of turbulence disturbing)

Jokes on me then. I’m 5 miles down the road

It’s the perfect spot for a nice family picnic!

All joking aside, cant wait for the live shipping. I fly over Avonmouth in the sim quite a lot, it’ll be great to see the ships coming in there, and if anything super interesting arrives I can hop on my bike and pop down to have a look for real. This sim just gets better and better. Hopefully somewhere down the line we can complete the set and have trains as well.

That would be great! Hard to achieve accurately though me thinks (just the paths, never mind real traffic!)

Hendrik, how do you make the models? you need drawings? I am on the vos stone in the irish sea, and would love to see us in the sim.

Just stopped by to point at this mod which managed to somehow put the carrier group in working state to free flight (including LSO and hard deck):

Maybe @hnielsen791 can have a talk with the author to evaluate if something like this would be possible with other ships too  it seems he wrote some script to get things working as expected.

Little Nav Map also is aware of the group

We can always trust that third party dev heroes will achieve what Asobo find difficult or refuse to do

more and more tests have been done, some bugs have been found and fixed. Focus at the moment is to finalize the ModelMarching rules and the UI.

@Delta2k5 I have checked the addon, seems mostlikely to using some kind of workaround. For the best integration we sill need to wait for the official implementation by Asobo. I hope the next Q&A in August will bring us more information on this issue.

Wow cool - you also figured out real time armies marching?! On ground also, or only marching on and off troopships for now?

(Sorry, I couldn’t resist! )

I have released moving carrier with arrestors and catapult crew as part of the F/A-18SW last week and also shared projects source files in description, so everyone else can join experiments. Asobo announced SDK documentation for carriers related features in SU10 but we can use them already.

Yes, it’s admirable what a lot of them (including very much Henrik here) can do and very often for free.

The dedication, attention to detail and skills on show with this ‘add on’ alone are amazing :slightly_smiling_face:

Still kudos to Asobo/MS to allow the community to provide third party addons. Some titles out there are restricted and mods are taken down because they violate the terms of use.

Also, I don’t really thrust in what Jörg said about carriers on free flight were not planned… I’m sure they were but they are not in a state he is confident in letting users fly to them outside of the challenge.
Some “proof” on this are the animation definitions of the carrier crewmembers featuring all different stances used on catapult operations and the carriers model which provides extremely detailed jet blast deflectors (hydraulics are moddeled), so catapult launches were planned but likely not finished.

The official excuse for this by Jörg was like “there are no catapult launches in the movie so we skipped them.” - but these of you who saw the movie or even the trailer should know different :stuck_out_tongue:

In the latest interview he was asked about helipads and basically he also talked about helipads on ships which are challenging as ships roam around the seas and that helipads on these ships should be selectable by users - I think the same thoughts apply to carriers and that he/the team would like users to be able to spawn on deck with their aircraft which would be more convenient for Xbox simmers too.

This indeed is a tough part as that’s something FSX did not support too. Runways and other spawn points always were static so this is something which have to change likely before we gonna see official carriers at the seas.

I have absolutely no idea why we‘re all so obsessed with boats and ships… in a flight simulator, that is…

But keep ‚em comin‘ and floatin‘!

Immersion. Makes the world feel alive and real. Doesn’t matter much when you fly from Kansas City to Ottawa in an airliner. But island hopping in the Caribbean feels wrong without ships.
Also hope someone will come up with trains sooner or later

Because… trains

The seas and oceans would be empty and boring just like the deserts are now.

I am doing a world trip at the moment and not long ago I was flying over desert for ages. It gets really really boring after a bit as maybe it does in real life. Anyway, Henrik’s ships are a work of art and well worth going low and slow to take a look at :slightly_smiling_face:
