It makes little sense to me also. I’ve saw this kind of manoeuvrers few times, most often around Istanbul, but the biggest impact on frame rate is on approach to NY port.
Likely it’s the number of ships / objects rather than their movement. Route based ships (which GAIST has currently) just follow the path plotted in the route. When they reach the end of the route they stop in that area. They may jiggle about a bit when the schedule starts again, so that may be what you are seeing.
Maybe that is true, but large number of ships around places like English Channel or Malacca Strait doesn’t cause any significant fps drop. It’s only happens when ships are on the move and in close distance to each other.
I was at Felixstowe port yesterday and was fascinated to watch a huge container ship (the OOCL Hong Kong) being turned around and then manoeuvred into place by three tugs. Am now looking forward even more to seeing these beasts arriving and departing in real time.
@hnielsen791 will the kind of manoeuvring below also be visible in the sim using the data that will drive the live traffic version of GAIST?
Soon, soon And thanks for the pictures. These megaships are not exactly beautiful, but they are definitely impressive.
And yes, the manoevering will be visible in the sim. It is tricky because of small data gap between signals and sudden changes of direction from tugs, but Kai has done a great work interpolating data, and then we operate with a small delay.
Haha - that is both mad and so clever! I had never seen anything quite like it yesterday so to be able to circle / hover above and watch it will be quite a spectacle I think.
And yes, they are not very pretty but they are certainly impressive, as are the skills involved in manoeuvring them.
I wonder if there are going to be more or less simobjects injected with the realtime traffic option?
More, however we are giving option to use different levels, so if you are flying in a dense traffic area you can reduce.
How big is the live AIS performance hit in very heavy traffic areas, the English Channel, for instance?
just a few FPS (1-5 or so)
compared to the current GAIST version, or compared to default MSFS shipping?
default.
biggest impact so far I had was SIngapore with -10 FPS, but I had there +1000 Ships injected
may I ask what CPU and GPU you have?
Ryzen 5800X and RTX 3090 with 32GB RAM
Thanks. That sounds encouraging
Yes. Sounds great
Finally got to test some of the US Coast Guard models in the sim tonight. Reliance Class, Island Class and Marine Protector Class
Continued beautiful work, Henrik! The detail on these is awesome!
