The new Garmin Axis avionics system was unveiled today. Buttons, knobs, and touchscreen, all integrated similar to a G1000. Radio stack and intercom are integrated and it even has built-in GPS capability, so it eliminates the need for an external navigator like the GTN as well. Big displays, very streamlined. Seems to be targeted at the light certified piston and experimental markets.
And chance we might see this enter the roadmap?

I’m sure it would take more than a year for MS / Working Title to work through all of the capability, but I think it has potential as a developer drop in set of avionics for multiple aircraft.

I’ve already had the chance to see and use the Garmin AXIS system in real life, in a friend’s aircraft, and I absolutely love it.
Before I was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes, I used to fly a PA-28 III equipped with a G1000. After experiencing AXIS firsthand in an actual aircraft, I noticed that quite a few things have become much easier and more intuitive compared to the G1000.
The layout and overall workflow just feel much more natural to me, and accessing and understanding the information is easier and more intuitive.
I would really love to see the AXIS system brought to the simulator. Hopefully, a developer like PMS or TDS will eventually take it on and create a proper, fully functional implementation. I think it would be a fantastic addition to the sim, especially for those of us who have actually experienced AXIS in a real aircraft.
