Garmin G1000/G3000 & Autopilot Related Issues

Nope, just using the in-game flight planner menu.

Thanks for the heads up on this. Using Navigraph here, and it’s freezing the entire display when trying to enter waypoints, direct to, etc…

Do you know if it’s only happening on the G1000, or is it an issue with other avionics too?

I’ve only seen happen on the G1000. I fly the King Air and CJ4 a lot too, and don’t experience the issue

Yeah seems to be only G1000 here too. GNS530 and G3000 both working fine for me.

Has anyone else noticed a change in behavior in the G1000 relating to heading and NAV modes and lateral navigation? Since the last update it seems that the turn rate slows to a crawl well before (10 deg.) the selected heading is reached. It has eliminated the over-correction problem by not quite ever getting to the selected course or heading!

No more freezing issues here, at least the last few flights anyway.

Now, my Direct To just doesn’t actually work. It will load the course into the mfd, but a lot of times won’t actually proceed onto the course. Activating a leg in an approach also seems to be very hit or miss.

Using the Working Title Mod and Navigraph nav data.

Anyone else have an issue with the AP just turning off for no good reason? It will usually happen to me twice or so in an hour flight. I will be putting not input and it will just ding and then AP is off. I turn it back on and then its fine until it happens again for no good reason.

This is on the G1000 in the C172.

If you serious about flying IFR then those things must work:
a) Avoid simulation crashing when you navigate between waypoints into a STAR (if you managed to enter one).
b) Freely insert SID, STAR and choose your airports while in flight (since there is no ROUTE 2 like on 747, 787).
c) DIRECT TO is a must.

I’m not a pilot but I also checked the manual for G1000. As you mentioned the manual says that the initial speed should be the current speed when I press FLC button. But the initial speed is zero eventhough when I fly over 130 knot. This bug makes me to change the target speed before the take-off. And it is very annoying. I think this bug should be fixed.

Hi @ssy523

Not sure if this would work for you but a workaround for me seems to be to bind “Autopilot Airspeed Hold Current” to the same key/button as “Toggle Autopilot FLC”

Can also do a similar thing when activating Vertical Speed mode so that it captures the current VS as a starting point (although I’m not sure if this is how it works IRL on the G3000 when VS mode is activated???)

First time I’ve looked at this thread btw and I’m also getting issues with the approach similar to other posters - seems to be mostly if the Flight Plan has been changed mid flight (eg added/changed Approach etc)

Hope it all gets fixed, it’s a great mod, thanks for everybody’s hard work with it all

Thank you @D4EF1n4tOR.

I bound “Autopilot Airspeed Hold” and “Toggle Autopilot Flight Level Change” to the same button as you explained.
And, it works perfectly.
Binding “Set AP Current VS” and “Toggle Autopilot VS Hold” to the same button also works very well.

Really Thank you.

Did anyone mention issues with loading selected approach into G1000? It adds waypoints close to departure and breaks the plan

It’s a known issue and I believe scheduled to be fixed. Two work-arounds:

Before loading the approach, go to HDG mode. Load the approach, then activate the correct leg then go back to NAV mode.

Don’t load the approach, just activate it. Of course you have to wait until you’re on vectors for, or direct to the IAF.

The glass cockpit in the 350i is absolutely useless right now. I haven’t really even tried the others. Some things that were probably mentioned here:

  • Apparently no way to load, save, or significantly change the flight plan from within the aircraft.
  • Designating a SID/STAR while on the tarmac or enroute, or changing approach/arrival intentions, often results in the autopilot deciding to go off in some random direction or back track to the previous waypoint.
  • Ordering the thing to go direct to a waypoint in many instances either does nothing or confuses the thing so that it never resumes the flight plan after that waypoint is reached.

I could handle if the ATC had this kind of terrible mechanics because I could go use Pilot2ATC or something. But in this instance, Microsoft has effectively given us a nonfunctional autopilot.

I’m not sure if this is a bug or not or normal behaviour from the G3000:

Basically I had to abandon and approach and go around. After turning off approach mode and autopilot, AP would not reengage and was flashing red and white. I’ve not seen this before, any idea what it could be?

I was climbing back to 3000 for the missed approach in a TBM930. There was probably something I needed to do with the g3000… I was used to using the SUSP softkey in the xplane g1000 but I’m not sure if the g3000 actually has this feature working in msfs.

Activating VR deletes a loaded (well and activated since thee is no way to only load it anyway) approach and completely kills any flight plan. Trying to reload the approach is impossible and in my last updated ended freezing the sim.
If that doesn’t get fixed the only working planes are those without garmins and the WT CJ4.
Then I will propbably give up on the sim until proper GA planes are released. I really hope Asobo realises how broken those avionics really are and doesn’t just releases a half ■■■■■ update.

Can’t get in the sim, just read the release notes. Has anyone been able to confirm which of the issues outlined in this thread were perhaps fixed? Looking at the release notes, it seems very few if any of these things were implemented or fixed.

Went to do a quick flight to see if anything had been fixed. Crashes to desktop. Judging by the patch notes, I doubt any of our concerns have been addressed. What a joke of a development company Asobo is.
Edit: After yesterdays developer Q&A stream, I have new hope for the Garmin Avionics in the sim. With Asobo bringing Working Title in house, I hope to see their work continue ever more now.

Anyone test the garmins yet with sim update 3?
