My experience with the G1000 after sim-update 3 so far:
Loading an approach somehow copies the last waypoint (enroute or arrival) to the approach list (!?!) but at least doesn’t delete any waypoints as it did before and doesn’t seem to make a mess with the FP anymore
approach still automatically activates after last WP even if approach is only loaded and not activated.
highlighting a WP in the FP and pressing D=> (direct-to) copies the WP into the direct-to window and pressing enter activates it (was not working before). In the FP the leg to that WP is activated and the AP in GPS mode flies the direct route correctly. Works only for departure/enroute/arrival WPs and unfortunately not on approach WPs.
pressing menu button in PFD now has a setup where you can change brightness PFD and MFD.
in PFD the synthetic view can be switched off.
pressing menu button in MFD opens a setup where you can change map orientation (north up, track up, DTK up and HDG up)
you can also activate the display of endurance distance rings in the MFD and the reserves (preset to 00:45)
Tested the G1000 with the B58 Baron and C208 Grand Caravan.
the garmin is broken when adding a Point of interest between two airfields…or adding multiple Poi as waypoints…It appear on the PoI of the world update USA Japan and UK Ireland…When adding a Poi is showed only the last segment…In this example The route in Italy is correct but the route Liverpool to the arrival airfield passing by the Poi is not showed as the first leg of the route in the flight plan and in the vfr map…It seems that these Poi are not linked to the Flight plan
I fly the Baron and its true since the last update there have been changes.
1 ) A POI can no longer be added as a waypoint.
2) the approach procedures function does not work/ and / is unreliable, causes Nav screen to freeze.
3) amending/deleting waypoints in the cockpit, “on the fly” or trying to activate “direct to” often causes the Nav screen to freeze. Once that happens the instrument cannot be reset. You are stuck with an inoperative screen untill the whole flight is re-created on the activity screen.
4) Staged flights cannot be done. The only way to start up the G1000 is via the main activity screen and restart the flight from scratch.
Flying the cessna 172, sometimes I set a direct flight so I continue doing missions in neofly without having to restart from the world map screen. It seems however that the second time I enter a direct flight the GPS line doesn’t update. The bearing information is correct as well as destination, but the line stays stuck at the previous route. I haven’t tested whether the autopilot follows the line or the bearing, that would be interesting perhaps. Kind of a bummer when you want to fly from airport to airport without restarting.
Tried it again…it seems that the ‘from’ location is not updated when you land at a new destination. So, I flew from CYXX to CYHE, then set a direct route from CYHE back to CYXX which was fine. Then at CYXX I set a direct route to CYVR…but instead of drawing the GPS line from CYXX to CYVR it drew the line from CYHE to CYVR. I hope someone in development is reading this, it sounds like a relatively easy bug to fix. Thanks
Anyone have a problem with the GPS flight path not showing on the NAV screen in the C172 since the last update? I have tried it both with and without the WT mod, and it is the same.
If you have POIs longer than six characters in name/label length as waypoints, there will be inconsistent appearance/disappearance of the magenta line.
Is this the reason that when I was in my TBM 930 and did a Direct To modification to my flight plan in flight yesterday, while I saw all the GPS nav data change, my plane just started flying in a 360 degree circle on autopilot?
I realized I wasn’t going to make it on fuel going to my one waypoint which was out of the way, so I did a Direct To to the airport to save about 10 minutes. I saw the correct bearing, distance, I clicked the activate button, and instead of my plane heading to the new bearing, it instead started flying around in a 360 degree circle?
I tried backing out and starting over, but every time I did a direct to and hit activate, the plane just started flying in a circle.
When this happens, it’s likely because the MSFS flight planning engine did a poor job of stitching the APP to the STAR or Enroute section. If you check the flight plan you’ll probably see that the last section before the APP is repeated within the APP.
When this happens to me, and I don’t spot it before entering that leg, I just activate the next leg in the APP section. Has worked every time, so far.
While the current G1000 implementation is way behind what is found in XPlane11, I went ahead and download Garmin Trainer on PC. It enables you to customize your avionics with NXi/GTN/..etc and boy was it even on a completely different playing field simulation wise. Wish we can get this kind of level of simulation fidelity even if we have to pay some payware addon for such extensive and accurate avionics simulation. Alas, I’ll settle now for XPlane11-like G1000 implementation.
The problem with addons that rely on the Garmin trainers (the ones made by RealityXP and Flight1) is that you cannot update their databases. The trainers use Garmin navigational databases which you can only get from Garmin and they cost a small fortune because they are meant to go in real world GPS units in real world aircraft.
It would be nice if Garmin and Navigraph had some sort of deal where Navigraph could supply database updates for their trainers, but i think Garmin has next to no interest in doing such a thing, and quite a lot of interest in not doing it. As such, what i would like to see is a native FS GPS unit that models all the functionality of the real thing, but can take navigational updates from either Navigraph or from the sim. I doubt we will ever get such a thing and it is far more likely that we will get a trainer based unit at some point, but i remain hopeful.
Unfortunately a change made in today’s update seems to break a key part of our file loading for the G1000. This is causing a broken MFD, and it may affect other bits of the Garmins, too. I’ve sent a query off to our friends at Asobo for some more information/guidance and we’ll get things straight as soon as we can, if we can. But there won’t be a release for these tonight. We’ll keep you posted.
I am glad that WT is aware of the problem, but when is it going to get fixed. This has been around I think since the update before last. Right now I am having problems with both the G1000 and the G3000. I cannot fly the TBM930 or the Cessna Longitude because all three screens are black. In flight training 50 years ago I was taught never to fly and airplane with not working cockpit instruments.
Again I ask, when is this going to get fixed? MFSF is a superb scenery simulator, but until the aircraft systems catch up to the scenery it will stay just that a superb scenery simulator.
It has already been fixed, they have released an update. Unfortunately it requires a modification to the plane’s panel.xml, if i understand correctly. They haven’t been very clear about what the modification consists of, exactly.
