GeForce Experience

I have the GeForce Experience installed. How is it related to the MSFS? Do I need this software? The only thing that does for me is to take screen shots while I am flying by pressing Alt +F1. Does it affect the performance of the sim?

nope. just updates your driver and suggest you option sets for allegedly better performance, which almost always look dumb to follow.

Yeah I use it for the Game filter to add a bit of sharpness to the sim and for screenshots, video’s and updating the GPU driver.
I never use the graphics settings thing it has.

I use it to control launch parameters (performance vs quality). Seems to yield me better (easier?) results than playing with all the in-game graphic options manually.

Good for screenshots and taking video as just does just that with minimal fuss and the video quality always comes out well for me. Some people get the pitchforks and burning torches out at the very mention of the thing, but each to their own.

I don’t use the game optimisation gadget, tried it once and I think it was convinced MSFS was a first person shooter that needed max fps and adjusted the settings accordingly. Unselected that in the settings. I have it on when I need it, and just disable the overlay when not.

Right here  for me it is bloatware. I don’t use it at all. I like my system neat and tidy without any superfluous software.

Well the term ‘bloatware’ has a number of definitions depending on where you look and what your opinion is, but seeing as it takes up 1/15000 of my storage space, and a 1/3200 of my system memory when I have it running for screenies and video, then I can live with that. Have it on, use it, does what it says on the tin, turn it off.

If it’s as bad as people like to make out then i’m clearly missing something as this video was taken with it the day before patch 1.14.6 dropped:

Microsoft Flight Simulator 25 MARCH 2021 Airbus H135 - YouTube

Have a good one :slightly_smiling_face:

I have also been using it for screenshots and video with no problems: works simply and well. I also used it occasionally to check frame rates. I will be trying out Xbox game bar for a while to see how it compares for the same functions.

Thin is disable the windows game bar so probably uses no more than if I switched geforce experience off and used the windows capture and record functions instead.

just hold windows button and hit print screen for photos.

can that key command be set to something else cos impossible to press that key combo with one hand.
If someone doesn’t make use of the features of Geforce experience then yes remove it if you wish.

unless your short of ram I doubt it will make any difference anyway.

So when I installed the GeForce Experience it has created a shortcut on my desktop. When I launch the simulator I do NOT launch the GeForce experience, yet I am able to take screenshots by pressing Alt+F1. Does this mean that MSFS launces the application automatically? Also I have noticed that when I launch the GeForce Experience I see a photo of MSFS 2020. Why? I am a bit confused here.

It scans the games you have on your hard disk and reports them as individual titles for its functions to be utilized by the user, ie screenshot and video recording, controversial settings optimization etc.

it can be safely removed, never seen any use for it.
but ofcourse others swear by it.

So MSFS does not automatically start this program? and if not how come allows me to take screenshots?

One of the features of my Logitech mouse is that I can assign a button to transmit a keyboard combo-command. One button push and I can snap a photo. Also, I think there are free utilities to have a joystick/other periph. to do this.

So guys, still waiting for an answer whether MSFS automatically engages GeForce Experience.

There’s an option in GeForce Exp. to disable running in background
If you disable it, all shortcuts (alt Z, alt F1,…) will be dusabled
You can still take screnshots with the printscreen key
GFE is never started by MSFS

Thanks for the answer. If it runs on the background, does it affect the performance of MSFS. Does it take any resources from windows (like RAM etc)?

Never seen any impact of GFE in MSFS, nor in any other game (ATS, ETS2, FSX, The Golf Club, etc…)
