GeForce Now Discussion

So last night I saw an article claiming Flight Simulator 2024 would be available to play on NVidia’s streaming service, “Geforce Now”. Out of curiosity I thought I would ask on here how well that might work and if anyone was planning on using this service. But, they’ve since retracted this claim, which kind of makes this even more interesting to me now:

‘Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024’ Will Get Day One DLSS 3 Support

The original article claimed FS24 would be available on November 19, day one of release, through the Ultimate version of the service, which uses machines with 4080 GPUs. You’re basically renting a high end gaming rig for $20/mo it sounded like. There’s also now a 100 hour/mo cap on the service which was causing some controversy.

It’s an interesting deal if you don’t want to shell out thousands for a new gaming rig. However, I was wondering how they could possibly stream such a complex title. There are all kinds of controller configurations and customization options. And perhaps it works well for some types of flying, like IFR airliners, but stuff that requires an immediate control input response such as flying a helicopter air ambulance and crop dusting, I could see lag being an issue too.

It’s not. For starters you won’t be able to use your peripherals, you would be limited to Mouse + Keyboard or a controller (Xbox, PS etc). Also, there are queues and as you already stated you are limited to X hours each month. I mean, I know simmers that would spend those 100 hours in a week (long-hauls).

Yeah, it’s cheap, but it’s not really a replacement for an actual Computer/Console.

Nvidia have released the graphic drivers for Flight Simulator 2024. Yesterday in fact. 566.14

It will be great if it’s added to Geforce Now because then you can play MSFS2024 on handheld devices, etc

That would be cool: a tablet with the power of a 4080, simulating a flight that you’re actually on. The airline could even do this with the seatback displays, so you could watch your own flight in 3rd person/drone view with live weather and dynamic scenery.

I wonder what caused the shake-up. Maybe they just don’t have the title ready for that kind of integration.

You can already, using Xcloud. It’s on Xcloud pretty much since the Xbox release. Just checked, it’s on the XCloud since early 2022.

Shake upbin what sense?

(On the idea of flight sim on a plane, I still haven’t had the chance to do that despite having a laptop with the sim installed on an international flight… economy seats are just too cramped to have a laptop out for 16 hours)

Yeah I just meant why the plan change at the 11th hour?

With a tablet and a streaming service though…

Ah if only the airplane wifi was fast enough :upside_down_face:

Hi SkipTalbot, you mentioned it was ‘interesting’ they’d retracted the claim.

For context, I enjoy Flight Sim, I enjoy Geforce Now, and I enjoy reading about both of these.

I thought it was curious that I hadn’t seen an announcement anywhere else about Flight Sim coming to Geforce Now, so I tweeted the author of the link in your original post, and he changed the article shortly after.

Hello,

I’ve started looking into GeForce Now for MSFS2024.
My setup is getting old, and I’m looking to re-configure it.

However, when I saw the GeForce Now product, I wondered if it would be useful.
Are there any GeForce Now users on this forum? And what do you think?

Here is the post on Reddit that describes the limitations: MSFS 24 on GeForce Now cloud gaming service : r/MicrosoftFlightSim

I myself have been playing exclusively on GFN, and I am more than happy (Ultimate subscription), both performance and quality are top notch. Moreover, in September they are replacing the 4080 with 5080 (to be precise, this is industry-grade GPUs with 20+ gigs of VRAM), with updated processors, with all the positive consequences (4x framegen support, etc.).

I love GeForce Now, and for couch sessions of MSFS 2024 using an Xbox controller, it works very well. However, peripherals are not supported, so you can’t use joysticks/hotas/pedals/etc. If you don’t mind using a controller, it’s great.

I own a Honeycomb Alpha and a Bravo, as well as a Saitek rudder pedal. It’s annoying if the peripherals aren’t recognized.
Also, if I understand correctly, add-ons aren’t supported either?

Is this any different than Xbox Cloud Gaming or is this just another vehicle through which to do it?

Only add-ons purchased through the Marketplace can be used.

Same concept: the game runs on servers in the cloud and streamed to your client. GeForce Now is PC based, and supports games from several different storefronts. (Steam, Epic, etc.)

Are you still using this ? I really would like to play the pc version and for like 20 a month id be willing, im an xbox gamer on msfs and I use a mouse and controller was wondering g if its worth a try my Internet doenload speed is between 60 and 70 maps most the time not sure on upload but it is decent i believe and advice would be welcomed. I think my tv may have the app which would be great if not I have a surface pro I can connect up to the TV. Was thinking if I keep the graphics settings to mostly medium to high It should run ok appreciate any advice you have thanks

GeForce has evolved from its beginning. I am really enjoying it now. Works well with my Microsoft FF2 joystick. It’s much more refined now and quite acceptable.

I recommend everyone try Geforce Now, especially simmers with GPUs below the 5080 and 4090 and those using most popular sticks and/or controllers. I’ve recently switched exclusively to it, as the Ultimate subscription uses a server-grade GPU with 50+ GB of video memory, and MSFS 2024 runs significantly better on this service than on my local machine (and I’d say on 90% of local machines overall). At 1440p, I crank up all the settings and LODs to max and often get 130+ fps, all in complete silence, with VRR and HDR support.

The service, especially after adding the 5080 equivalent this year, is fantastic, and all for a $20 per month. The idea of a local computer doubling as a room heater is becoming less and less appealing to me.
