Just purchased new rig with RTX 4080. I am now getting the following error:
“Your graphics device has encountered a problem and the application will exit. This may be due to graphics card overclocking, overheating or due to a driver fault.”
Running windows 11 with Nvidia driver 531.68 (latest available). Any thoughts greatly appreciated. I am not an IT person!
Hey there! @Aviator6612
Sorry to hear you’re having trouble with your new RTX 4080 while running Microsoft Flight Simulator. Let’s try a few things to fix the issue:
-
Keep an eye on GPU temperature: Use a program like MSI Afterburner or HWMonitor to check your GPU temperature. If it’s getting too hot (above 85°C), that could be the problem. Make sure your PC is well-ventilated.
-
Reset GPU overclock: If your GPU is overclocked (either by you or from the factory), try resetting it to the default settings. Overclocking can sometimes cause instability.
-
Update Microsoft Flight Simulator: Make sure your game is up-to-date with the latest patches and updates.
-
Check for Windows updates: Ensure your Windows 11 is up-to-date with the latest updates and patches as well.
This is a bug that has been happening since September. However over the last 10 days the number of reports have increased substantially.
In short what you are seeing is a fairly generic warning - the exact cause remains unclear - switching to DX11 seems to fix it for most people (myselt included)
This community is AWSOME! Can’t believe how fast I got support. I have switched to DX11 and thus far have not seen this error message. Many thanks to SkyTrampe. I will also keep BriL0ve’s recommendations in mind should the DX11 solution not resolve the problem. Once again my sincere thanks for reaching out.
