Global AI Ship Traffic V2 for MSFS

You will actually see that some ferries and cruise ships already do have passengers and more will get it… Some of the latest models, however, I left them out because I knew I would be redoing the models for MSFS with new options; in FSX and P3D there was a strict limit on the number of vertices in models and adding persons are killers with respect to vertices and performance in the older sims, so usually only a few were added…

But if you look eg at this one sailing across the bay near Sao Luis de Maranhao in Brazil you will have both people and cars…

and here on Nordkap you will have passengers strolling on the deck and relaxing in the jakuzi…

and if you look well you will also see the passengers on the cruise ship Deutschland near Molde, Norway

and Bergensfjord here has both passengers and seagulls…

Well, at a certain point there will be stuff which could require help… for the moment however the first steps I need to do; once the process is getting standardized then e.g. help with textures might be an option, but my textures are not easily understandable as they are optimized a lot with things overlapping to reduce the texture size to a maximum. Again remember most of this was created to work in a more than ten year old simulator…

@hnielsen791 Oh wow, that’s great  Thanks for that, I’ll keep an eye out for them.

It’s nice to get a civil and helpful reply.

plus some other new bugs like trees on the runway. when will they ever learn to let their fingers off from things that work!

@hnielsen791,

Thank you so much to you and your team for creating such a great add-on. It gives another layer of depth to the simulation and it’s just a joy to fly coastal now.

It works very well on my config, I have a i9 10900kf and a 3090 with 64gb of ram. I get a short freeze from time to time and I assume it’s the loading you mentionned earlier, a small price to pay for such added value.

I was wondering if there was a way to extend the distance from which the boats appear in the sim. Is it related to LOD object? I’m sorry if you mentionned that earlier, I must admit I didn’t read the whole thread.

Anyway, amazing work and thank you so much for your creation and an amazing contribution to that sim.

Very best,

S.

Hi, thanks for the feedback - I will look into the lods when converting to native format; so far in the current version models only have one lod which is not specified like they are in MSFS. The testing of native format is progressing slowly and I need to resolve the issues one at the time to get some decent procedures established before starting to convert in larger numbers.

This one was converted yesterday - values on the comp file is a bit different, that the one I did last weekend, so I need to figure out where to set the levels for each part of the ship to have the best rendition. This one has a small issue on the normal map giving an issue with the TUG text on the side - it is just a 1024x1024 so I took it too far with the Normal map compared to the pixels available.

Hi! Thanks for the swift reply. Understood! Don’t get me wrong, it wasn’t a complain, just curiosity.

So, I take it you do all this manually. That’s dedication! Thanks so much for your effort, I believe a lot of us are very grateful for your work.

Best,

S

Seconded. This addon has all the potential to do for the coastal regions what the 4-Seasons Pack has done for trees and vegetation on land. Another essential addon, IMO.

Hi, I noyiced that the mod make MSFS to crash when flying in Barcelona Spain (taking off from LEBL, and going to the port).

hi - there is no special ships in the Barcelona area so it is very unlikely the issue is related with the ships. If you are already having performance issues - eg very high graphic setting compared to the spec of your computer - and/or have something else very heavy installed eg photoreal scenery then maybe you can have a combined effect in particular if you have installed the ships recently and you still have many ships being converted on each coastal flight. But apart from that I will basically exclude the ships from being the root. If you want further assistance please post your computer specs, what else you have installed in the area, and exact time and date of flight so we can try to recreate.

Hi,
My computer is 32Go i7-9850H 2.60Ghz, Nvidia Quadro T1000, drivers up to date.
flying current time, no other mods installed than Ships (other mods removed). Crash can occurs even a few seconds after being at LEBL.
When going to my community folder, I see GAIST_MSFS_V1 and GAIST_MSFS_V1_CVT_ (this last I don’t know why is there).
Hope this can help you.

Out of curiosity I just did some flying around Barcelona, taking off at LEBL towards th harbor. Ships showing up fine and no CTD. Unless it happens with a very specific aircraft/time of day/date combination it doesn’t seem to be a general issue with Global AI Ship Traffic.

The CVT folder is the conversion folder which will fill as you have encountered all the ships. How many folders do you have in the CVT folder - if few it might as written above be the conversion process which hits you - check the screenshot from my cvt folder, which I guess contains close to all ships…

Which graphic settings are you using - I think your system is stretched - maybe reduce your setting a bit while your sim “get to know” the ships - once they are all through the conversion the impact is neglible.

I have 67 folders in CVT. AI Artic ship is similar to your screnshots.

Okay - you still have 308 folders to be converted, so that could play in - but again as jigsaw also reported no issues with the standard installation around Barcelona. Also took a flight to test with absolutely nothing to report.

Evening trip near the Farø Bridge approx 100 kilometres south of Copenhagen; the bridge was just released by Soenico on Farøbridges Scenery » Microsoft Flight Simulator Highly recommendable. The ship is Mistral, built in Rendsburg, Germany in 1966 but still going strong visiting frequently the Danish straits and also my hometown Vejle.

I tried the exact same thing many times all around the world and I have yet to make it 1000 feet from take-off before CTD. AMD Ryzen 7 1700, 32GB of RAM. Geforce 1070 GTX with the latest drivers. It evens CTD when I am landlock and taking off.

Something don’t match here… The routes load before you enter the simulation and the ships only fully load when you are within a very short distance which can be seen from the stutters some experience at first encounter due to conversion - in the latter case we talk an issue which occurs around 1000-2000 meters from the ship… So neither of the two match the situation you are describing with a “landlocked” start resulting in a CTD at 1000 feets. Further, the ships generally have two draw calls and a texture folder of 5.33 MB compared to the A320 NEO 407 MB so apart from the moment the conversion takes place they don’t have much of an impact. A typical photogeometric scenery could be a 500 MB - 1GB… So your issue can not arise from the ships alone, maybe something in your settings compared to your specs, but I won’t try to assess that. In case you can’t solve it there is unfortunately nothing else to do than uninstall. There will not be a new version until late this year.

EDIT… I just noted you are VR Beta Participant - you don’t mention if you experienced the above in VR which obviously demands more to your computer…

I am thinking along the same lines that it is something outside of the modpack. Would having my ships set to 80 be the cause? Should I dial that down? As for VR I have not tried to run the mod in VR, just the normal. I tend to test everything out before VR so that I know it works and if there is an issue than it is due to VR.

Thanks again for your reply.
